    ◆self-introduction
We were just an ordinary Japanese married couple, both working, until my wife suddenly chose to move overseas.
After thinking deeply, I reached a conclusion to leave the company I worked for 12 years, and started my new life as a stay-at-home dad in 2021.
At first, I had rough time with stress and felt conflicted, but now I enjoy my life in Malaysia, taking the household chores over from my wife.
As I changed my lifestyle I changed my hairstyle to Samurai(Man Bun).
I named this channel "Samurai -----" as some people call me "samurai!" since I came to Malaysia.
In this channel, I will be introducing:
    1. My daily life and things I noticed as stay-home-dad
    2. My Malaysian life
    3. Changes we experience upon moving overseas
    Hope you enjoy!

Honestly i just realised this recently, when i watch western countries stray cat videos. They seem afraid to humans and i find it weird. Stray cat at malaysia are mostly friendly to strangers. When i watch this video, its confirmed malaysian cats are extremely friendly and we take it for granted lols Thank you for provided them food 👍🏽

I never realised it could seem as something special to others 😸 even though there are pros and cons (messy trash etc), we have some things other places don't have. We have kawaii neko!

i am especially pleased when you said that the stray cats are happy here.
this is a very interesting one-of-a-kind observation from a foreigner moving to malaysia (majority of the social media contents are sooo focused on our delicious food). 😅
    .
i guess this is the general "kasih" (mercy) trait of malaysians - we love to share with others even if that "others" are feline.
during the MCOs, apart from having kind-hearted people coming together checking that fellow malaysians have enough basic food on their tables, there were also a number of groups who volunteered to check on the needs of the strays too.
"kita jaga kita" at another level. 💕
    .
my mother used to fed the strays around the house for about two decades or so before deciding not to continue anymore.. parting with them can be very tragic, very heart-braking even if the cat are mere strays.. i lost count of the number of graves that my family had dug.. a number of the cats came back to visit after had been 'missing'.. only to find them lifeless in the drain not long after.. 😢

Actually, there are many Malaysians just like you, who, upon seeing a cute cat, will just gush, "kawaiiii" and start to approach them... my family included. However, most people are more reserved, though they still love the cats. They will feed them and shelter them, even if they don't bring them home.
So don't worry about playing with the stray cats here. Malaysians are used to it 😁

It’s a really thoughtful observation of yours. I am living in Japan. And I really feel the differences. You feel it from the Malaysia side, I feel it from the Japan side. The most difficult thing is to have a pet in Japan. We only can have pet if the house that we rent can have pet. I just moved to new house just to have a cat. About the stray cat in Japan, I always said that cat in japan are shy same as japanese people😂 If I found a friendly cat in Japan, I will spend a few minute almost half an hour just to pet them. In the old days when people used to live in villages or 'kampung's, a lot of homes keep their pets freely outside. I guess in some cases where people have landed houses in cities nowadays people still keep that practise. So it seems natural to have cats going around the neighbourhood making their rounds. Sometimes the cats do have owners (especially if it has collars). But yes, what you are observing is probably true. Most times, Malaysians do just leave them alone. I like cats, so if i see one around, sometimes i pet them too!

This reminds me when i was in school. The whole class like cats so we would bring stray cats roaming around our school into our class, take turns to pet them and provide food and drink for them at the corner of the class. We even named them and make them a family😂
Apparently during weekly meeting between teachers some teacher bring this matter into discussion. Many teachers came by to see for themselves, how we take care of cats in our class.

As a Muslims, cats were favourite pets of our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. , and when u feed the cats, stray animals or any pets, we believe they will pray to God to gave us "rezeki", blessing and prosperous life too.. petting cats can released your tension and depression since they naturally can neutralise negative aura that we carried as a human. Once u pet a cat, other stranger cat can smell the scene of previous cat near u feet and will eventually came closer to your feet and like u for sure. We also feed birds too in the early morning.. can found in many part of city in Malaysia.

My granddad told me that Allah sends cats your way to remind you that you are loved; the pure bliss that we get from the interaction is as pure and as simple as love itself. The serene calmness of joy is the gift to remind us that love is kindness. So that is why a cat is precious in our eyes.

Cats, like humans, are god’s creations hence they deserve some love. Growing up in Malaysia I was always reminded that not only humans deserve love, animals too. • @katietan3153
    @katietan3153 2 роки тому +69

hello there! Malaysian here who has lived in multiple states before, ranging from urban to rural areas. There are certainly stray cats who dig in trash cans, just not as frequent anymore because our government has a mandate to use those big green trash cans with the covers. Back then, it used to be a problem everywhere, especially for housing areas with an uncontrolled population growth of stray cats. It's not just stray cats digging in people's trash, it's stray dogs and occasionally, you get the monkeys too. That's why there's the trash can mandate now.
From the trash can mandate, more people are starting to opt to feed the strays instead, since they can't really dig in the trash anymore for scraps to eat, and most of us just can't really bear to see them starve to death, so we just opt to feed them. Of course, this doesn't apply to every single one of us, but I'm just saying this is also one of the factors contributing to what we're seeing here in this video.
Also to keep in mind, most of us are religious/spiritual in this country. No matter what faith we believe in, we always believe that it's good to care for the needs of another being, be it human or not, so this manifests itself as feeding stray animals and being kind to them. Again, of course, I'm not saying this applies to everyone. You can be not religious and still be kind to strays, but I'm just saying this is a prevalent mindset for many of the people here.
I'm glad you're having a good time with these little cuties. We really appreciate it when we see people love on them as much as we do.

Whenever you see cats in that area, there were no rats around. I used to live in Kepong and there was a lot of stray dogs in the area and have a lot of rats and cockroaches (they attacked the cats but not the rats!). Cats see the pests as playthings and reduced the cause of diseases. It is a mutual feeling that we need each other.
There is a lot of difference when I moved to another cat friendly neighborhood here and I even housed a stray with feeding them and sometimes sleep in my house (because of the air conditioning unit :D). I don't see rat problem and most people here drives slowly because afraid to hit the cats and it is safe for kids to play in front of their houses. I see a lot of pros than cons having cats around.

It actually confuses me too when i look at western society, where there's rarely stray cats and dogs, and if they have strays walking around they would call animal shelter to be adopted or euthanised which is quite shocking. I know having stray animals have pro and cons, like it makes the street look clean etc but then it makes the people kind of cold. I can never understand why you can't have stray cats and dogs, the world is their home, not every animals need to be domesticated. People just need to be more kind and caring. There's even a story about a sinful woman (she was a prostitute) was decided by God to be allowed to enter paradise because she showed kindness to a thirsty stray dog; she gave the dog water using her own shoe (this is in the case where she understands that she's doing big sins & feel bad about it, but haven't stopped yet; probably due to circumstances). I even built a cat bungalow for them. Need to spend quiet a lot for food and litter, but amazingly i have never run out of money ever since we started taking care of these cats. • @elvvsi9

As a Malaysian, I can confirm this is true and real. Whenever and wherever you are in Malaysia, you'd find a cat on a car, the roof, next to a longkang (drain), or maybe napping next to the road. If you approach them and you realize that there are injuries on them, you need not worry. It's not an injury from people throwing rocks or stuff, mostly the injury is from an accident. If you want to bring it to a vet to treat its injury or anything, you could feel free to do so without worrying about anyone complaining. If you help the strays out they are more than happy ^^ If you can't help them, giving them some attention would also be seen as a good act for them. Also when you said 'No one in Malaysia realizes that this is such a special and favored cat-paradise' actually there are a lot of people saving cats and dogs, after they save the strays and help treat the strays, they find shelter and family for them, you can find people posting the stray animals pictures that they saved on Facebook ( this is where you find these posts more often) and other social media. Hope this is good information!!

the cat ended up fighting for the fishes despite we placed them separately tho 😂
also, agreed with the trash collecting system, i wish government paid more attention to these issues tho. and also us as society play a more active part in throwing and recycling the trash more efficiently

I beg to differ. I've been rescuing stray cats in PJ for decades. Many cats are in anything but good circumstances - having not enough to eat, drink dirty/toxic water, frequently get sick, are hunted by packs of stray dogs and injured by humans or become roadkill etc. Most stray cats live a miserable life and in my area live on average under 2 years (ranging from a few months to 4+ years). The problem is many people who think they are taking care of cats simply by feeding them (junk mostly, sad to say) don't really care what happens to the cats in the longer term - since the cats when they get very sick will just hide away to die. I have 6 cats in my house - all rescues (4 abandoned) and a few of them were constantly injured and being chased by stray dogs while outside, and this is in a relatively safe residential area. One lady I know has personally rescued over 100 stray cats (and counting) in a small section of PJ alone and has kept 80+ of them in her house and a rented shop as she is petrified of releasing them back on the streets.
There is a total lack of effort to neuter/spay these cats so that there won't be even more suffering created. Plus, most animal welfare organisations are not much interested in helping the public with animal rescues and in my view mostly seem to focus on dogs. So, it's up to individuals to do it but how much can a small group of people do.

@@SamuraiStayAtHomeDad Yes TNR/rehome is a must but unfortunately there is no government effort and surprisingly little that animal welfare organisations seem to be doing in many parts of the world including here. Also, the very hard economic times we're facing probably will last many more years - and this will make the situation for stray cats even worse including a lot more people abandoning their pet cats. I saw at least 10 abandoned cats with collar in my area these past 2 years - many more than pre-lockdowns.

I too carry a bottle of cat food in each car I have. It's become a habit to feed whenever the opportunity allows. Near my office there are tiny piles of kibbles everywhere.
Sometimes I don't have to feed them as I can't compete with another soul who carries wet food and going around feeding out of his car near my office.....but it's heartwarming to see it. And we attend to dogs too who recognises certain cars and wags their tails furiously at the prospect of getting their food for the day. And the dogs don't refuse cat food either 👍

Its true that cats are easily seen every where in Malaysia. But do bear in mind some places won’t allow people to feed cats such as condo ( the management in my condo won’t allow to feed cats) and lrt or mrt stations. Anyway, i really enjoyed watching all your videos especially this one about cats. Well done👍

20 yrs ago when i was still studying, it's common to see stray cats and dogs scavenging through rubbish. Slowly this became less and less and these days a lot of ppl i know would have a tin of cat and dog food in their car if we run into any hungry animal.

We Malay loves cat, u will see a lot of cats in Malay areas especially at the villages, you will rarely see dogs, that's why the cats looks happy they can roaming freely without worry and threaten by the dogs

since I live in a terrace here in Malaysia, alley cats from behind my house would gather if they hear me open the door ^^ I feed them mostly leftovers like chicken and fish from my dinner (of course I remove the sauces). it's not just stray cats that enjoy the feast, house cats with collars also join!

What an insight! In my neighborhood, there are always people who feed stray cats 😊 Last year i moved to another place. There’s always one cat who often wandering around our house. We feed her out of sympathy. Eventually she is now literally the cat boss in our house 😂 Anyway, I never thought that this kind of gesture could actually makes people ponder 😁

this is such an interesting side of Malaysia . as a Malaysian i must say i often takes this simplest things for granted until a foreigner points it out . it's true tho i feel like at least in every Malaysian household , they would have at least 1 pet cat (or used to)

We are taking care over 40+ stray cats that some heartless people just simply dumped on our doorstep. Cats are adorable n deserve our loving care, as do all animals😽.
