The 2023 Honda Pilot Trailsport Is A Family Friendly 3-Row SUV With A Rugged Flair
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 чер 2024
- With so much new competition in the midsize 3-Row SUV space, the #HondaPilot gets a full redesign to better allow it to compete against new rivals in this ever changing space. The #PilotTrailsport takes its place as the most rugged version of the #Pilot for 2023 and it includes actual hardware changes like skid place, all-terrain tires, and increased ground clearance to actually give it more capability. Only those buyers looking for a hybrid option may need to look elsewhere.

I love the new Pilot over the previous generation Pilot 😍🔥
It looks shitty. $50,000 with fake plastic
Agreed. Beauty but overpriced. The 2009-2015 and this model are really nice.
@@mbenton6 Nah, you're wrong. It's not fake plastic. It's real plastic.
@mbenton6 what is fake plastic?
We have a 2008 Pilot running strong with 240k miles. Its usability and durability are unparalleled!
I couldn’t agree more, the newer infotainment system & a TrailSport Elite trim would be nice, but hey it’s a solid vehicle and I’m glad there’s still a V6 under the hood 👍
Best three row SUV on the market.
Current reviews obsessing over huge screen sizes is annoying. I don't need huge infotainment screens stuck on top of the dash.
Nobody cares what you need
They obsess over things most people don’t want. Everything this guy has said he wished they did, would jack up the prices even worse than they already are.
I hear you. Maybe they should stick a 50 inch TV in the dash. And yet people would still complain 😂
I don't want a big, complicated screen. It's my least favorite thing about modern cars.
Except for the Straight Pipes and SavageGeese. I watch them and Theyre Anti big screen
I recently bought a 2023 Trailsport for it's V6 and it's light off-road ability. I was expecting to dislike the screen size, but surprisingly it's actually fine, i think anything bigger would get in the way of seeing through the windshield. What I'm actually missing are the ventilated seats.
I have a 2023 Pilot Elite, and you aren't missing much. The ventilated seats aren't that great. I think I'd miss the HUD and the heated steering wheel more than I'd miss the ventilated seats if I moved out of an Elite and into a Trailsport in the future.
@@JOBNUMBER the Trailsport does not have HUD, but it does have a heated steering wheel.
I thought I wouldn't care much about ventilated seats, but in Arizona, I've come to realize they might be helpful. When i lived in the North East where i grew up, heated seats and steering wheels were very nice to have, especially during the winter months.
I love the style and the interior and it’s features. I don’t like how some features are excluded on this trim.
Thanks for giving us a good look at the seats before jumping into the vehicle. Sometimes a wacky shaped drivers seat will send me looking elsewhere.
AWESOME review thank you !
Probably the best full review of 2023 trailsport I've seen. Your honest opinions on features appreciated. I think infotainment size maybe would bother someone like yourself because you drive and review so many new vehicles with larger screens.. Im coming from a 2010 Ridgeline with a 7 inch navi screen. My Trailsport is due for delivery next week.. 9 inch will seem like a big screen to me 😆. Anyways thanks for great review!!
Really good looking with Honda reliability. Kia and Hyundai may give you more features but there reliability is always questionable. Basically you get what you pay for can’t beat Honda and Toyota. Good review
I drove one. Good styling, it handles more like a VW (in a good way, it’s not floaty or uncoordinated), lots of cargo space, Honda reliability, it’s a really good package if you are okay sacrificing a toy or two compared to Hyundai and Kia
I have a 2016 and it’s been less reliable than the 2014 bmw I’ve had 😂
Hyundai/Kia is at its best with v6 engines and conventional transmissions. It's the 4 cylinder engines (Theta 2, and Nu 2 and some Nu Smartstream) you have to worry. With that being said, Honda need to on developing hybrid powertrains for the Pilot and Passport due to Toyota, Mazda, and soon Hyundai/Kia have them in their 3 row crossovers.
That might be why they have a 100k warranty 😂
I concur with your comment. A very nice vehicle with a high quality build the Koreans can’t quite match!
I traded in my 2021 Tacoma 4WD for a new 2023 Honda Ridgeline AWD. That lasted almost 4 months, picked up a new 2023 Tacoma 2 weeks ago, never again will I own a Honda, so glad to be back in a Tacoma.
NO way I'd want Tacoma. Only if you off-roading or towing more than Ridgeline max 5,000lbs. Personalized aftermarket accessories.
The Ridgeline has better use of space interior.Tacoma doesn't have interior flat-floor storage. Even the newly redesign model. So like that Prerunner with No Rear seat the Ridgeline has the fold up rear seats that you can use the floor for storage up. With seats down in seated position you have floor storage underneath. No drive shaft tunnel. It also has the lay-flat bed designe to accommodate the 4×8 sheets of plywood.Ranger says it can do that with redesign.
Tacoma still doesn't have in-bed trunk. The better ride.
Obviously didn't do your homework on the truck.
Off-roading and personal customization with accessories is what Tacoma is about.
You can say get 20 diffrent ladder racks for it.
Great review. To be honest, I watched this in the hopes that it may be somewhat of a sneak peek at the 2024 Ridgeline. Just waiting to see what the do with their pickup.
excellent review... hes one of the best
How do you turn on the flashing headlights on they look really cool??
No ventilated seats with a black interior is a terrible setup. I would want the trail sport model but at least give us a grey interior option or ventilated seats!!
Grey and orange trim seats would look cool.
I just traded in my 2019 WRX STi for the light blue Trailsport. I'm picking it up tomorrow. So here I am on youtube at 11:30pm, watching every single video I can find about this car lololol Im excited to say the least
How has the car been for you after 3 months?
Pilot is definitely gonna be at hit, midsized offering with amazing 3rd row cargo space, and a smooth V6 engine. Cranks out 5 less than the MDX. 5 stars for Honda on this one
Oldie, but a goodie!
I have the 2023 Elite and the screen size is fine.
I really love the new pilot . Honda hit a home run with this 👌
Can’t agree more with you, just need 12 inch infotainment system from the Accord plus Hybrid option, not having these is basically the only 2 things that keep me away from this car, although, I hate Fake exhaust tips on touring and elite as well but it’s not necessarily a deal breaker.
Your chrome tips on back won’t get dirty since it isn’t connected
I would have loved if it had all the tech features the KIA Telluride has, the only deal breaker for me actually is the screen. If I get this car I’m going to hold onto it for a long time and that screen is already out dated.
Are the reverse lights led?
14:48 Amen! Preach!
I like the looks and the simplicity
Not for $50,000
@@mbenton6 it’ll age well though
@@thomas735 it already looks dated. And fake leather.... no thanks
@@mbenton6 I like dated haha, not a fan of styling on most newer cars
@@mbenton6that’s how much every single car in this class costs now. It’s ridiculous but it’s also not just Honda.
For someone who needs AWD capabilities, but with a bench seat option…what would be the next best 2023 pilot? an el-x ?
Rather than a larger screen, i am wishing that a car would come with a screen that can angle towards the driver, with some degree of pivot so the screen is more direct viewable as well as reachable.
The 9th Honda Civic has that kind of screen.
@@JJ-tk1cuwhat year is the 9th civic?
@@nasamanasa 2012-2015
It got heavier is what happened to 0-60 you're right. Side impact is impressive.
The last gen was too feminine in my opinion but this new pilot is back to its suv roots and it’s looks hot!!!
@@JADE939 well yeah I was just comparing the last gen that looked like a van and now this gem combines the 2nd gen with the last gen to make it modern that’s all I’ve always wanted a Honda since I’m getting ready to replace my Ram with a 4 banger however my aunt wants me to get a Ford maverick cuz my uncle works for ford in my area
The Honda Civic type R is very feminine 😅
I got a 2023 CRV hybrid
When u sit in the back row are u slouching?
Good review Sofyan! Do you think Honda will use the new 3.0L engine in Acura to power the upcoming Pilot hybrid '24 or '25? The segment seeming to have a 2.4L. If Honda pulls this off also achieving a PHEV w/35 electric range, this should get them ahead of competition.
They gonna prolly downsize for better mpg
Honda said they won't use the 3.0L in anything but type s models
@Johnathon Butler Then that 2.0 isn't enough power. So I gather a new 2.5L
Knowing Honda likes to cheapen out, they wouldn’t do that. If anything, the V6 may eventually be replaced by the 2.0T or by some hybrid combination like in the Highlander.
Can you review the 2024 cayenne if possible? Man did they make some big improvements
I like the Elite trim
Honda Prologue will be amazing. Can’t wait.
Prologue? Now you’ve given me homework, I hate homework. 😡🤣
A fully electric SUV lol. You can keep that.
@@rastradamus1074 lol? I am not seeing many people regret buying Tesla Model X. I lol at backward people buying gas guzzlers
I want to wait on the refresh my only negative small infotainment looking to buy this one
Honda pilot is my dream suv
Im gonna have it soon or later ❤❤❤
This trim is meant for off-roading, so I don't expect a lot of luxury features want something luxury and off-road capable the new lexus GX or any GX.
None of the trim has any fancy features😂😂😂
Not entirely sure why trail sport is the main choice for all the reviewers out there.. elite should have been the right model to review 🚶
Rav4 and Outback do not recommend tire chains, why are you not covering this?
The engine rev w/o VTech..my heart cries
I don't understand why Honda /Acura don't use gearshifter in their new models anymore? It is the gearshift that makes the car a real car! I really like Honda/Acura models except this..
I like the car a lot. Not a fan of this trim level. Captains chairs and black interior are both major negatives for my needs and losing 2 highway MPG also is a downer. I can see why this trim would appeal to people in some parts of the country though.
This styling is truly going back to like 2002!! ..lol
I don’t understand why Honda doesn’t standardizes the infotainments. Why offer the biggest screen on the Accord, that doesn’t make sense
I hope you get to drive the 2024 dark horse when you can get one
Just wondering how much bigger will screens go. Every year they get bigger and bigger. I think 2028 model windshield will be a screen. And by 2035 the whole car will be screen😂😂😂.
I live in Texas and I would gladly trade the panoramic moon roof for ventilated front seats. Just wishful thinking.
If it’s synthetic leather it should be too hot. Unless it’s black on black like my wife’s last two SUV’s.
Honda Pilot or Subaru Ascent? What do you think?
I miss the vtec sound 😩
I always dislike when a desirable trim selection of a model forces an interior color selection. Kia does a great job of offering choice inside regardless of trim. Who wants to Pay 50k for a car you like on. The outside and an interior you don't. It's the part of the vehicle experience you see and touch the most.
I agree…the Pilot is beautiful until you get to the dash and see that tiny display. Disappointing
if the ridgeline get this front end it will be a MUCH more attractive truck, I really don't like non-boxy look on the current one
Does the wireless charger actually work? I've had several Honda models with "wireless charger" & they never worked. Seemed like just a gimmick😤
As a consumer who recently was shopping this particular market, the small screen and non full digital dashboard were part of the reasons I chose a competitor. The new 2023 interior is nice however.
Hi Sofyan, what would be your pick between this , Toyota Grand highlander and Mazda cx 90 , does Mazda really lacks third row space compared to these?
Pilot or cx90 is a tougher choice.
But vs the GH? The pilot is a no brainer
@@naveenthemachine cc 90 vs GH?
@@user-bm7ml1hr9s probably cx90. Because it’s nicer and drives better. The GH is spacious but it has a really cheap interior
@@naveenthemachine even the hybrid max platinum is cheap and not as refined as the cx 90?
@@user-bm7ml1hr9s yeah. It’s cheap. What makes it worse is that the cx90 has a nicer interior than even the upcoming TX
This SUV will need a 2-4" lift before anyone dares to take it off road. Overall, this is still a nice soft roader. Honda did a fine job with this SUV, but the Hyundai Palisade XRT/ Kia Telluride X-Pro are more interesting designed.
The rear is a bit too Subaru-ish for me. Otherwise really nice looking.
what's this color?
I hate how it’s a trailsport that it’s meant to go off the grid but it doesn’t have a navigation option.
So did this trim killed off the Passport?
Anyone know why they still have timing belts
Timing belts are smoother and quieter.
If they're trying to capture your money then they need to lower the price. I was on a Honda dealership and my eyes got big when I looked at the sticker price so I purchased a CRV hybrid
It’s unfortunate but everything in this class is this expensive now. Tellurides go up to 55k, pathfinders 53k, Highlanders 55k, this is unfortunately dead center
They still got your money 😂
Infotainment screen stickin out the dashboard bothers me tbh
Do we know why car companies continue to put carpet on the floor? In this Pilot, the manufacturer then put a plastic flooring on top of the carpet. Why not remove the carpet altogether?
The carpet helps absorb some noise and echo and it also helps maintain temprature.
They should offer a vinyl floor with good insulation underneath
The only reason I would consider a Pilot is the Vtec engine.
I think the screen is fine not great but fine. It probably was over covered in this review.
Love the new design but no navigation or a bigger screen? Honda is shooting themselves in the foot.
Hands down better than Atlas and Ascent
Also hands down better than the grand highlander
Why would you say a refresh would be soon - it literally just came out.
I don't think he went more than 90 seconds without pointing out something bad or a con about the car and then other than that it's awesome lol 😂
The reviewer's job to point out the differences with the competition, that's all. It's mostly just preferences. Not everyone wants every feature.
Some of it is subjective, but things like non-LED rear turn signals, cheap trim, and older infotainment system are just blatant missteps by Honda.
Me encanta por eso.
A reviewer should always point out areas where a company cheapens out. If they’re gonna up the price for a new model, they may as well up the features too.
I was simply pointing out the obvious. If there are several cons, one should point one and then repeat other than that it's great. Then after 90 seconds, point out another bad thing and then other than that everything is great.
Giving the choice of this honda pilot and the new lexus gx550, money is not taking into the account, which would you pick?
In general neither. But I’d go pilot because it’s better to drive
Gx looks incredible
Thought the 0-60 would be better 😐 Pathfinder, Telluride is faster
6:20 it’s so odd that they have the Pilot incandescent rear turn signals when even the HRV has LEDs. 12:15 also odd that they don’t use the updated larger infotainment system from the Accord. Not sure who’s making these decisions at Honda, but it’s awfully backward.
The thing is, Honda intentionally pulls back on features for the Pilot, as they like to protect the MDX. Same deal w/ the Accord and TLX
Accord and Pilot came out around the same time, but they chose to use bigger screen on accord instead Pilot which is questionable, I guess they don’t have enough parts for big screens for both vehicles, so they chose accord, but if only one of them can have bigger screen, Pilot should be the one that got it.
They also ruined these new cars with these non projector led headlights. Makes it look cheap, same with incandescent taillights. Although im sure they can swap them both out for aftermarket lights
@@user-qg2tl3jk9z they’re stupid for doing that - if you’re going to cannabalize, you might as well do it yourself, either way they are still buying a Honda product. Now, people, are going to buy another brand instead of an MDX.
So many reviews are of the Trailsport. Where are the Elite reviews. I for one am liking this return to simplicity in the exterior and interior. Leave the alien inspired messes to the Koreans that look dated and gross 1 year after release.
Hi brother.... Expecting a Subaru Ascent review.... Thank you in advance....
2024 and 2025?
Better package than the MDX
It’s a Ford Explorer. The only difference is the badge. What happened Honda!?
The new pilot is already behind the Grand Highlander
LOL, this Trailsport AWD system trounces Toyota's Highlander.
No it’s the other way around:
The grand highlander is way behind all it’s competitors
The back still looks like a van. Need more sharp edges
I heard 9 speed transmission had problems. Engine got jerking after few yrs. 😢
This has a 10-speed built by Honda. Not that older ZF 9 speed.
"These seats in the third row recline but they're not powered". Really, dude?
That infotainment screen is tiny for a car this size. Why not include the Accord 12in screen?
I’d still take this over the Jeep Cherokee but the 4Runner is still superior to it with off-road.
Honda should consider updating their tech and use refined materials rather than cheap plastic parts.
I don’t like the plastic, but considering it’s a Trailsport it’s not really a deal breaker for this specific trim.
Why does Honda block the four-spoke to make it a three-spoke with that heated wheel button, it's ugly.
A nine incher too small?! Gurrl! Guuuurrrrrl! 😂🤣😅😘🦄🌈💃🏻
Honda reliability helps, but design-wise... an all-around yawn sandwich.
Exterior nothing to write home about but the interior is 2 levels dated.
I would of liked the Pilot to have a shifter instead of buttons for the transmission.
No way. Give me the open cabin of a push-button or rotary shifter any day.
A honda without a vtech is not a honda
Is it me or is the interior of this car pretty bland? It looks like it’s a generation old already
It just looks tired. Same clunky parts , switches, bezels, etc
Interior “out of a Civic” is such a poor way to introduce the new Pilot. It’s Honda’s design language. The Accord in no different.
The civic interior is a game changer for the compact sedan segment. It has a mix of Lamborghini Audi and bmw
@@naveenthemachine i don't think so. I prefer the previous gen's interior. Looks more flush and better

Everyone's obsession with infotaintment screen size is so very, very lame. It's a vehicle, not a home theater system.
I had a 2021 Honda Passport Elite and initially thought it was going to be a great vehicle. In my personal experience, Honda's overall quality is very disappointing.
The interior is rather cheaper looking and outdated compared to other makers such as Kia, although I don't trust Kia or Hyundai vehicles.
The Passport had great room, but the gas mileage was terrible and mine was consistently in and out of the shop and it was purchased brand new.
Honda's customer service flat out stinks, and I also owned a 2016 Civic EXT back in 2016 and same thing, vehicle was in and out of the shop. I think the older Honda's were much more reliable, but had the rusting issues.
Between Honda and Toyota, I would take Toyota 100% and never had any issues with any Toyota's owned compared to Honda's.

I can’t believe how expensive these vehicles are getting…time to downsize.
Good effort by Honda but could’ve been way better in terms of std equipment and engine options. Toyota didn’t mess around and gave the Grand Highlander, in its first year, with standard options that most families need. Still hard to beat the value in Telluride. But I bet Honda will upgrade a lot of things as standard in this Pilot’s 2nd yr. But a missed opportunity for Honda to make a lasting impression.
No the grand highlander is a huge miss vs the pilot. The pilots nicer inside better build quality better fit / finish, better driving experience and superior AWD system
