Thank you so much. When I saw you uploaded another one I was so happy. These seriously are the best lessons on UA-cam. The fact that you are doing it for free is unbelievable. The way you coordinate each lesson to build on one another is so much easier and intuitive to learn, and slowing down with pauses so I have time to give each phrase a shot really helps. Most other videos just spam random phrases that have nothing to do with each other so I can’t even really tell what each individual word is. This method you’ve been adding to your videos is just the best. I actually have faith that I’ll be able to speak with my family in Brazil now, you’re the man! God bless
So happy to hear that the videos are helping you. Yes, there's a reason you don't really see series of videos on UA-cam that progressively build on one another in a logical, coherent way--creating them is a lot harder than just making a stand alone video. It has to be carefully thought out and it only gets harder the further in the series you get. That said, I think something like this needed to exist on UA-cam (even if it's a relatively short series), which is why I felt compelled to make it. If the videos continue to perform well, I would love to go up to lesson 10, but for now I will take it one video at a time. Thank you for your comments...they mean a lot to me!

The only BR-PT resource out there that I would personally recommend (with a caveat, which I'll explain) is the FSI Portuguese Programmatic course: www.fsi-language-courses.org/fsi-portuguese-programmatic-course/
This is a free course which was developed in the 70's by the U.S. goverment to train diplomats. It's really comprehensive, but it teaches the formal, academic version of Portuguese which is very different from the colloquial form that you actually hear on the streets, in movies, in podcasts, etc. (to be fair though, this is how pretty much all BR-PT courses, books, apps out there teach it). So the caveat is that you have access to a tutor who can help you "convert" the type of language in the course into how people actually speak in the real world. It's a good tool for learning vocabulary and understanding basic theory, but just know that there are a lot of things that you would have to unlearn in order to make it functional for the modern, spoken language. You can check it out, it's definitely not for everyone since it's a really old and boring...but I'd still use it over any other app or book out there.

Based on the response that I've gotten, the course will definitely get made. Yes, "eu gosto DE viajar" is "I like to travel", whereas "eu quero viajar" is "I want to travel"

When saying I like something it's always with a de before the subject but when I say I want something it's not in there, the de .... Por que?
The verb "gostar" (to like) is a verb that requires the "de"...only a very small group of verbs require the "'de"...most don't.

that's just the way the language works...some verbs like "gostar" will always need to go along with a preposition like "de". Others require "a", as with "começar" (começar a...). You'll just have to learn as you go which verbs require a preposition.

@@erictrzaska5771 yeah, it’s like asking an English speaker why we say “to rely ON”, “to participate IN”, or “to depend ON”. An English learner would just need to learn the prepositions that go along with each verb.

@DecodingWordswithAndrew Thank you so much for the lessons, you make it look so easy. However, I was surprised that in saying "I've always wanted to travel a lot" the word 'muito' was used instead of the word 'mais'. Could you kindly clarify.
Hi Michael! "Muito" means "a lot" in this context. "mais" means "more.

The best translation for "Can I have....please?" would be "Me vê.....por favor?" I talk about it here: ua-cam.com/video/Kb_06G-0gAg/v-deo.html

What does quis mean by itself?
"quis" is the past tense (more specifically the preterite) of the verb "querer" (to want). For more info about how the preterite tense is used, check out this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/Mii9OopUePg/v-deo.html
FYI "querer" is an irregular verb so it doesn't follow the regular conjugation patterns.
