Easiest move to do in Judo. I'd like to think of it as a standing Butterfly Sweep.
I actually pulled this off in only my second Judo class.

Just want to leave a message to say thank you for the breakdown of the technique in a clear and concise way.

I cannot thank you enough for your excellent technique breakdowns in Kenka-Yotsu, throughout these videos.
As a left-handed judoka, it greatly helps to have these demonstrated. Not only the techniques themselves, but their particular applications in that position.
I dare say that (at least in my experience), the importance of efficient Kumi-Kata and Kuzushi in Kenka Yotsu is often overlooked. Yet you cover it all simply and concisely.
These series are a gem for the Judo community.

We place a strong emphasis on the importance of kumi-kata (in all situations) and feel it is generally overlooked at all but the highest level. Anyone that wants to have a decent level of competitive Judo needs to have a gripping strategy tailored to their game - We've got plans to expand our gripping series of videos and start to look in more details around specific gripping styles or specific game plans. Thanks you for your support!

Very well explained! What would a yoko sumi gaeshi look like?

    • @EfficientJudo

There is no formal technique called Yoko-sumi-gaeshi, however many people refer to this version, from the same sided grip as Yoko-sumi-gaeshi - compare it to this demo video, which is the textbook / classic version of sumi-gaeshi: ua-cam.com/video/4LR49U48iyw/v-deo.html

Not sure about this demo. Thanks for it but the heads are so close it looks like headbutt territory.

The grip around the back gives tori a lot of control over ukes posture. In many years of Judo with sumi as one of my primary techniques, I don't believe I've ever clashed heads.

Your foot should make a hook on the opponents thigh. Your leg will be placed between yourself and the opponent, with your knee outside of their body. I hope that helps.

It sometimes gets called that, yes. Although the Kodokan doesn't classify variations in that way. This is the most competitively used version of Sumi-gaeshi.
