I am a Chinese who have already spoken Chinese for 20 years. I was pretty sure my Chinese level is excellent until I saw this tutorial. I believe I learned most of the rules mentioned in this tut when I was 6 years old, but I totally forgot. This video reminds me of my first year in primary school. That's great. Frankly speaking, really clear and nice explanations.

I'm not the greatest at learning new languages because they intimidate me greatly. For example, the fact that Chinese words can sound the same but have entirely different appearances in written form and mean different things hurt my brain. Although it might sound silly to some, to me it was helpful. When you used the English comparison of see/sea I could grasp the concept a bit better, which made me feel better about learning Mandarin. I also really like how organized your video is, I think it fulfills its purpose of a learning-based video. Thank you for dedicating your time to help educate others.

I bought Harrap's Chinese lesson book, it used the sentence "Renshi nin, wo hen gaoxing". It explains that it is a figure of speech. Is there any situation when "Renshi nin, wo hen gaoxing" is more pertinent than "Hen gaoxing renshi ni" ?
Nin Gui Xing sounds a lot more respectful and less interrogative than Ni Jiao Shenme Ming Zi, like some people will try to teach you. But is wrong because when meeting first timers, you ask their family name, given names are for when you actually know them, and if they say it's ok

When writing Chinese via a computer (online) is it typical etiquette to use the characters or Pinyin? I've seen people do both & while I do want to learn both, I think being able to hold a conversation in normal terms with my Chinese friends would help a lot in surrounding myself with the language, as is advised by a lot of linguists when learning a new language. Also, great video! Though I'd have appreciated seeing the characters along with each term.

I am a complete beginner, Italian mother thongue. Just saw this lesson for the first time. Would appreciate any advice from the Tube on how I should learn Chinese (lessons? Books? Internet? Etc.)

When writing Chinese via a computer (online) is it typical etiquette to use the characters or Pinyin? I've seen people do both & while I do want to learn both, I think being able to hold a conversation in normal terms with my Chinese friends would help a lot in surrounding myself with the language, as is advised by a lot of linguists when learning a new language.
Also, great video! Though I'd have appreciated seeing the characters along with each term.
