For the kid from Eastern Europe earning monthly 150-200 usd from adfly, well it was a blessing. When I was 13 back in 2010, I made monthly a minimum wage in my country for over a year. My best holidays as a kid 😊
I had an xp lended to me. Minecraft played at like 10 fps so my friend suggested I get optifine. He linked me to the mc forum post with the adfly link. I followed the instructions to downloading it(I did not hit the green "download now" buttons)but when I did, it displayed something called "optimum installer" The installer was literally rigged where if i hit no, it was like fuck you imma do it anyway. Gave me a cocktail of shitty malware that I knew how to deal with (ilivid, babylon etc) as well as a fucking nasty trojan called "IRP Hook." Just mde minecraft even more of a frame-skipping mess.
Nah for me it was trying to install mods without reading anything and destroying my computer by downloading random jar files. For whatever reason whatever I installed disabled explorer and I had to use system restore to fix it. I didn't even know about custom launchers at the time, so I thought every mod just worked like OptiFine.
Came to see: malware, fake extentions and SCAMS! what i actually got: someone with quite minimal technical knowledge trying to download malwares and doing it unsuccessfully for 21 minutes
I still default to Mediafire for uploading files for other people, when I used Dropbox the links would occasionally die and I found the download button kind of non obvious

Ah, good-ol' Adfly, the one thing literally every person who downloaded random minecraft mods they found on the forums in 2014 can unite under. You learned quick to never interact with whatever it showed and to hit that skip button ASAP, usually to get to a mediafire link where the actual mod was hosted. It's nostalgic to see, but damn am I glad we've moved past those dark ages years ago and have stuff like Modrinth and Curseforge now.
Thankfully adfly is mostly gone from the internet these days. Or at least I don't encounter it as much, it has probably been a good 2-3 years since i last saw an adfly link
The amount of trash from random websites and UA-cam videos that I have downloaded during my childhood, and I never not a single time got any malware. I’m truly amazed by how dumb someone has to be to actually get hacked or whatever.

I had installed an extension (on a different chrome browser app entirely) and rhe extension decided to turn the entire app in a malicious file that was trying to steal cookies and what not... Like i struggled to uninstall the app

adfly told me to click allow on notification i did and then stuff started to pop up like VIRUS VIRUS and i did quick scan with window then no virus then i realized it was a scam then adfly started to send more and more you got a virus then they put in like not good pictures then i got traumatized i also am a little younger so that was so sad for me and dark so i quickly disabled noti for adfly

If you failed to realize that (at least imo) you deserved what "2× RAM 4free" websites offered.
I used to be in the Sims 4 fandom and some custom content creators were notorious for using adfly (which was a besides everything else, a way of getting around EA's 'no profit' clause in the EULA) and somebody worked out the return they got and it was pitiful, particularly compared to the amount of alleged damage to other people's computers.
My dumba-- accidentally downloaded Trojans trying to download Minecraft forge a few years ago. Luckily it was a blank old laptop because i knew some shit would happen

i remember when mediafire used to give you a hidden popup window when you hit the download button. hidden as in it somehow didn't go on top of the current window but it was behind it so you didn't know it was the unless you closed or moved your browser
Because they don't care who buys the adspace from them - most will filter things to appeal to bigger-ticket buyers, but adfly doesn't do that. It's a relic of a different, more archaic marketing strategy.

We Minecraft players are conditioned to only pay attention to the countdown and click on the "Skip" button when downloading mods and texture packs. Then click on "Download". Continue until no new windows open and you can finally save the archive file on your PC.

So, interestingly, I use Kaspersky Security Cloud, and I went on Adfly to download something, and TRUST ME I did not click anything, and then AFTER I LEFT THE PAGE it said like 16 times "download blocked" The first time it said it wasn't a virus, then the others it said it was "illegitimate software".....

Do you truly believe that the only way I could have had something download was by clicking something? Do you not understand how viruses work? And that happened in times when I didn't click anything. If a downloading window shows up asking you to "download or not" something then DO NOT PRESS "YES". I come from the Hispanic side, I remember that a lot of the pirated content was behind those ugly ADFLY and similar "wait for 5 sec." links. Hell, the uploader was so scummy that you had to go through 3 ADFLY links back to back. It got so bad that some dudes in comments legit shared the clean link to download and everyone praised them as heroes

My dad has been working with computers for over 30 years and he didn't blink an eye when I told him about that happening. He just recommended that I do a computer scan, and preferably one from an external drive to boot up Linux and do it from there.
I use Google Chrome. And I don't remember ever messing with those settings. Maybe I did, I don't know. But even then, it should say that something is downloading, which it did not. Do you truly believe that the only way I could have had something download was by clicking something? Do you not understand how viruses work? I've gotten plenty of alerts from my antivirus software saying it blocked a download that was "notavirus:HEUR" or something like that. I looked it up, and it means that it's adware. And that happened in times when I didn't click anything.
Why would I, a person who is willingly looking up videos about computers and viruses, be foolish enough to click on a stupid big link in the middle of the screen when I've been using adfly for years, originally to download Minecraft mods? And why would I lie about clicking on it? What could I possibly gain from lying about getting a virus from a website and replying to some random person on a computer video?

I am aware of that psychology and also there is no way for adfly to send files to you without your permission.
If a downloading window shows up asking you to "download or not" something then DO NOT PRESS "YES".
Perhaps you didn't even read the message and pressed the button anyways thinking that it's about "skipping" or something.

I come from the Hispanic side, I remember that a lot of the pirated content was behind those ugly ADFLY and similar "wait for 5 sec." links. Hell, the uploader was so scummy that you had to go through 3 ADFLY links back to back.
It got so bad that some dudes in comments legit shared the clean link to download and everyone praised them as heroes

Its such a scourge for sims modders. Want a new fancy dress? Good look finding a link to a smaller creator that isn't adfly.
