On American rails, the X2000 rode very rough with violent side sways which threw passengers and crew all over the place while the Swedish ride was superb.

It did have some differences, such as double instead of single AC-units on every car. The chinese had taken it out of service, so SJ bought the set in 2012 and re-imported it to Sweden. Great review! Fun fact: In 1995, the New South Wales railway operator in Australia, Countrylink, trialled three X2000 tilt train cars and an engine from Swedish State Railways (SJ) for testing and public service trials to determine their suitability for use in New South Wales and for interstate services. After a statewide tour in March, they were used to run the Sydney to Canberra Capital Connect service from 23 April until 18 June 1995 with modified XPT (Basically an Australian HST train which are still in service today after 39 years of service!) power cars XP2000 and XP2009.
Lovely video! The scenery looks very much like Canada in the winter. The station in Stockholm is very impressive and charming and I love the silver colour of the train. I think you said that you have taken videos of travel further north and I hope you have travelled further south from Stockholm as that would be a great trip. Best wishes for the holidays and for 2022!
I have taken the trip from Stockholm to Copenhagen several times on both the SJ X2000 and on the competitor, Snälltåget. I prefer Snälltåget. Not for comfort but for the old-fashioned style of the carriage and in particular the restaurant carriage. Nice review. They have just recently addressed the dated interior of the X2000, with refurbished trains sporting an updated interior, better signage/info displays, Wi-Fi, new seats and better bistro car. I think all train sets will be updated but at this time there are only some done. Good to know. There are also X3000 trains dating from the 2000s that are similar to the x2000 but not due for an update yet.
Precisely! The first upgraded train has just entered regular service, and all X2000 train sets will be upgraded in around 3-4 years according to SJ. The upgrade is however delayed by several years already.
Hasse, I heard they were going with ”transparent glass” in the windows this time, meaning cellular signals were to pss through more easily. Do you perhaps know if this is true for the X2000 update or only for upcoming trains?
@@bjornonline The X2000 upgrade will have those radio transparent windows. They have upgraded all tech and interiors in the trains, keeping only the shell and tilting system.
January 28, 2010 I was hit by an X2000 just north of Stockholm Central Station in an area called Tomteboda. I was fixing a switch on the track that had frozen. Due to incorrect communication, they let a train continue on the track we were working on and I was hit. I was lucky and survived with minor back injuries
3 hours from Stockholm to Gothenburg? The distance is almost exactly 300 miles, i.e. an average speed of 100 miles/hour. That's brilliant, especially for a pendolino. The German ICEs, which are "genuine" high-speed trains, often have an average commercial speed that's hardly above 100 km/h (65 miles/hour).
@@dosvidanyagaming4123 Yes, it's Swedish design and manufacturing but it depends how you understand "pendolino". To me, this word refers to any kind of tilting train, not necessarily to the Italian type - that's why I called the X2000 a pendolino. The "dispute" is about what the word "pendolino" exactly refers to but we agree that the X2000 is Swedish designed and manufactured. Alright 🙂
@@dosvidanyagaming4123In fact, original "Pendolinos", "fully Italian designed and built tiling trains", developed in 1970s, were much faster than X2000. Anyway, average speed depends on infrastructure and on number of stops much more than on rolling stock performance.
China bought a X2000 in 1998 to serve between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, it used to be the fastest train in China. It got replaced by CRH-1A in 2007. The train returned to Sweden in 2012, a trailer car went to Swedish railway museum, power car and other trailer cars went back to service in 2020.
You literally fell from the sky with this movie, in June I will be on exactly the same train. Now I know what to expect and I will have a little less nerves :).
It's was the flagship of Swedish railways for a long time but it was replaced a decade ago by the X3000. The X2000 essentially became a hand-me-down to be used in Malmö and Gothenburg for passenger congestion relief.
This is a common misunderstanding. First of all there are no train called X3000, It´s called SJ3000, And it´s not a replacement for X2000. X2000 is still the flagship and has always been, SJ3000 is a complement for shorter trips with many stops and has lower speed. It´s mostly used for trips Stockholm - Dalarna and Stockholm - Sundsvall/Umeå beacause it has ETCS. The comfort of X2000 can´t be compared with SJ3000 wich is more of a regional train than a long distance.
I've heard of this train. I saw it in a video of New Haven Union Station in Connecticut from 1992. I live in the USA, but I hope to visit Sweden one day and check this train out. Anyways, I enjoy your travel reports, I hope you have a nice Christmas, and I look forward to seeing your videos in 2022.
This was a nice Christmas treat. Watching this Christmas Day, seeing the snow and relishing the idea of -15 degrees, whilst I sit here at around 30 degrees :)
And a late Merry Christmas to Dylan! Many years ago (last Century, in fact - February to June 1995) New South Wales dabbled with trialling a few carriages from this fleet on the Sydney - Canberra route. While I didn't travel on the service, I was able to see through the carriages at the Maintenance Centre and was very impressed. Your journey has reminded me of the experience and, while this is an unrefurbished set, I immediately recognised features I had seen. Unfortunately, as is the case with so many experiments in Australia, no capital investment was made on this brand of equipment and the three carriages returned to Sweden. Thank you for sharing your experience of a week or two ago in the winter wonderland of Sweden. The Christmas decorations at Stockholm Central Station were a great introduction to your coverage. Take care and see you again later this week. Happy New Year!
3:46 In the other end of the main hall, a spacious corridor leads to even more shops and restaurants, as well as the yellow Arlanda Express (train to the airport).
Very nice video. As a Swede I’m proud of the Swedish Railway and SJ. The ticket prices are really good, the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it is. Tickets start at around 200SEK. Compared to flying to Gothenburg, the train is very cheap and still gets you to your destination just as fast (if you account for the time it takes you to get to and from the airport). As you said the X2000 are being refurbished and upgraded and the first of these trains is already running on the Stockholm- Gothenburg line. Make sure to travel on it! Some more interesting information is that SJ just signed a deal with Bombardier for some +20 new high speed trains capable of 250km/h which will be the fastest train in Sweden. These trains are scheduled for 2026. They will not replace the X2000 but run side by side. Last but not least Sweden is in the planing stage for completely new high speed corridors between Stockholm-Gothenburg and Stockholm-Malmö which will increase capacity, enable higher speeds, up to 250km/h (today 200km/h) and therefor cut travel time. Thanks for a great video on our great, but old railway system. Take care!
As someone who has spent the better part of 5 years commuting daily by train, traveling some 1000 km per week, pride and Swedish railways are, regrettably, two things that I seldomly associate. Swedish long distance trains are among the least punctual in all of europe and the largest contributor to the delays are problems with the infrastructure. The railway network have suffered from a lack of investment and inadequate maintenance for decades during a time when passenger rail traffic has increased drastically. As a result, several sections are running at max capacity (such as parts of the route between Stockholm and Gothenburg) and there are frequent problems with broken switches, signals and the electrical supply, etc. This is something that is acknowledged by most of the political parties, government agencies and operators alike (with SJ often complaining about the poor state of the railway infrastructure) and most agree that improvements are necessary. Personally I want to be able to feel proud about our national railways, but being proud about something that is, frankly, subpar is just going to hinder progress. I prefer that we complain and criticise until sufficient improvements will make it right to actually be proud.
Often the flights are way cheaper though. Was about to travel to Malmö a few months ago. A train would have cost me thousands of kronor, a flight was only a couple of hundred.
I took a regional train to Vasteras while in Sweden just before the pandemic and the difference in price between 1st and 2nd class was also very minimal - I think around 25 SEK each way - which you can barely buy a cup of coffee for. Assuming you're going at a time where the lounge is open, this difference is 100000% worth paying. You can't even use the washroom in the station without paying, but the bathroom in the lounge is free! Bear in mind that the seats are identical in 1st and 2nd on some shorter distance trains (eg the double decker trains), with the only difference being that 1st class has assigned seating and 2nd does not. I had thought of coming back in 2nd class but decided to also pay the extra for 1st despite there being no lounge in Vasteras. I'm glad I did because the 6 car train that was supposed to bring me back got reduced to 3 cars, and 2nd class was packed standing room only, whereas in 1st everyone had a seat.
Adaptive pricing? I don't know, actually. Västerås is not a town I've visited many times. On other routes, sometimes you find 1st class tickets that are less expensive than 2nd class tickets, if you can wait for a train running one or a few hours later. I mean, 1st class departure at eight o'clock may be cheaper than 2nd class att five o'clock.
I recently travelled in 2nd Class, with a ticket price of 785 SEK (booked 2 days ago) the dynamic pricings really hurts when you have to plan a journey suddenly and have 2-4 days in hand

Merry Christmas Dylan. Nice Swedish winter video. The train was very nice. The first class ticket is what I would have bought thanks to you. The dining area and food looked interesting. The Stockholm central station is definitely a station I want to visit. I plan to do a Scandinavian Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark trip in tge future. Good to see you're taking my advice branching out. 😊 (kidding) Overall, a very good video. Enjoy your holiday.
They seem to now have English announcements in the train. I was in Sweden a few years ago and rode from Stockholm to Malmo. Announcements and displays were only in Swedish much to the disappointment of some Chinese passengers. I told them that on domestic routes in Europe, only the local languages are used. Which was a good thing as it helped give me some vocabulary.
Traveled yesterday with SJ and the driver did announce route details in English as well. I think the attendant did not, when talking about bistro offering etc.
The staff has a big autonomy in how much information they convey. I think they have some basics they must convey. Some staff are more talkative then others, both in Swedish and English..
Very glad you've done this trip report. Perhaps in the future you could review a refurbed set and give your thoughts between the two. While I sadly have not yet travelled on these units, I'm very much sure my aunt and her family have most likely done so. Before they built the new commuter starion, you could walk under one roof to get from the metro/commuter train to the long distance trains! That's one thing that was definitely better before.
Very nice trains they seem quite modern indeed I think are they are not as fast as other high speed trains although they can tilt as well I notice that Sweden is still expensive for most things.
Interesting, wonder who scoffed all the chocolate, hey? 12:21 As a regular train commuter I can assure the basket with chocolate never runs out all the years I have been traveling.

The SJ X2000 was built at the time by ADtranz at its site in Kalmar in south-eastern Sweden, the company was later purchased by Bombardier in 2000 and it is now Alstom in 2020.
Very interesting, is the route single or double track as you sat on the left and there no track next to you? Or, perhaps the line "drives on the left" as until 1967 Sweden's cars drove on the left side of the road too (like UK)? How cold did it feel outside, -15c feels bitter, it looked OK with the sunlight but that might have been deceptive!
You are correct, Swedish trains goes on the left side. There are a few years since I took this specific trip myself, but from what I remember, it's double track all the way.
As a Canadian let me tell you that sunlight is no indication of warmth in winter in the “frozen north”. Here in Montreal this morning the sun is shining but the effective windchill was -22C.
Yes, almost everything related to trains in Sweden is still influenced from the old days with left side traffic. It extends to the platforms, escalators etc. It is even noticeable if you watch the flow of pedestrians in the tunnel connecting the Central Station in Stockholm with the underground metro lines. Anyone with a bit of common sense keeps to the left.

Great review! Fun fact:
In 1995, the New South Wales railway operator in Australia, Countrylink, trialled three X2000 tilt train cars and an engine from Swedish State Railways (SJ) for testing and public service trials to determine their suitability for use in New South Wales and for interstate services. After a statewide tour in March, they were used to run the Sydney to Canberra Capital Connect service from 23 April until 18 June 1995 with modified XPT (Basically an Australian HST train which are still in service today after 39 years of service!) power cars XP2000 and XP2009.
Love it. Nice trip. Thank you, and Merry Christmas, Dylan! 😊✌️☃️☃️🤶🤶🤶❄️❄️❄️❄️
"Schnabb-tog x2000" This is my new way of saying that word. Thanks.
Oh yes ~ Canada !! 🇨🇦 That must be so true !! Lol. Canada is beautiful 😍 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🎁🚈🎉🍾🥂💞
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO you ! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🎁🚈🎉🍾🥂❄🌨💞
That was a lovely ride through Sweden. I certainly will add it to my list.
I agree & wishing I could ,too someday !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🎁🚈💞
Great video! The attention to detail you put in is appreciated:)
I have taken the trip from Stockholm to Copenhagen several times on both the SJ X2000 and on the competitor, Snälltåget. I prefer Snälltåget. Not for comfort but for the old-fashioned style of the carriage and in particular the restaurant carriage. You get to sit down at a real table with a real white cloth, a little lamp, and your get to eat with real cutlery.
im in hospital & found ur channel, i LOVE watching your videos thanks for sharing them! i wanted to take the XJ to Gothenburg on a daytrip but it was just too far & exhausting to me so i made a BA reward flight out of it instead. Stockholm station & airports (2019!) are so beautiful in Christmas seasons decorations!
This was very holiday like ,x'mas appropriate video !!! Dylan, you picked the right train / station for a x'mas eve .!! And the snow covered sceneries from the windows added the touch more !! This made me feel like tme slipping back to my youth !! This train was more nostalgic to me somehow as it was really clean like Japanese trains !? This video made me feel like travelling again soon !!! Thank you so much !!! You are getting better / better !! 👍👍👍😃❄🌨🎄🎁🎉🍾🥂🎈🚈🚉💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💕💞
Another excellent commentary, Dylan wisely avoids banal comments which ruins some videos. Valuable information is always provided,
Nice review.
Oh gosh, I'm glad to hear you are okay.
Because it isn't a Pendolino. It's a tilting train, but it's fully Swedish designed and built.
Happy Christmas! Thank you for your videos over the past couple of years, which have contributed to keeping me sane in lockdown!
Thanks! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too.
3:46 In the other end of the main hall, a spacious corridor leads to even more shops and restaurants, as well as the yellow Arlanda Express (train to the airport).
Perfect video to watch at Christmastime! Thank you. 🎄
Good call both ways!
Sweden is a country I still need to visit! Happy Holidays Dylan and a Merry Christmas to you! 🙏✌️💪☃️🎄🍻
The price seems very reasonable for a three hour ride. As usual a very informative and well put together video. Awsome job!
I agree 👍 💯 This vlog comes on the top of my list of my faves !!! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🎁🚈🎉🍾🥂💞
But for the same price you can have a sleeper bed and travel much further in (for example) Slovakia 😁
@Andy Sedgley you are aware Slovakia and Sweden have completely different economy?
Great trip report
Recommend taking the trip Karlstad-Torsby next time you are in Sweden. The so called Frykdalsbanan is the most scenic railway route in Sweden.
🎄Merry Christmas 🤶 and a Happy New Year Dylan 🎄
Thanks for the great video with detailed narration. Looking forward for your video on Narvik trip
I waited on this review today i love the X2000 trains they are quick and efficient
I recently travelled in 2nd Class, with a ticket price of 785 SEK (booked 2 days ago) the dynamic pricings really hurts when you have to plan a journey suddenly and have 2-4 days in hand
My home country!
Thanks for doing a trip report on these epic trains!
My home country, too! Dylan finally did a Swedish trip report!
Another great video, marred only by the brief view of the Leeds UTD. scarf!
I sure enjoyed the snowy Sweden. Also Merry Christmas Dylan.
Hallo, Dylan! Thank you very much now and for all. It's very beautiful now and all. I like so much and I apreciate and I respect you. God bless you! Merry Christmas, Dylan! And a good and beautiful 2022 year to have! 😀🤗🙃😗
Thanks for the video! Seems like a really nice train 👍
As always, many thanks for the menus. Cheers!
I wish you a wonderful Christmas, Dylan! 🎄 🎅
Excellent trip report! Worth noting if you travel 1st class on morning X2000 trains breakfast is included and served at your seat.
The entertainment system hasn't worked for many years. I recommend streaming from the WiFi on board. The WIFI can be really good or quite bad.
Very glad you've done this trip report. Perhaps in the future you could review a refurbed set and give your thoughts between the two. While I sadly have not yet travelled on these units, I'm very much sure my aunt and her family have most likely done so.
In case if you ever wondered, here's a video on a refurbed unit: ua-cam.com/video/nN2X6H2K-ZM/v-deo.html
Wonder what the next video will be.
Excellent video beautifully presented with super subject matter.
Thanks Dylan and a very happy christmas and succesful 2022 to you
Cheers, Bob
The SL ticket is 38SEK for 75min which is about 4 Euros
Great video! This train looks very nice and comfortable, especially the seats. I like the wood used in the interior, it looks cozy. Have a nice Christmas :-) Greetings from Prague!
Excellent video again Dylan.Merry xmas.
Trivia: X2000 was once exported for Hong Kong to Guangzhou intercity through train service in the early 2000s.
An extensive modernisation programm is on their way. Both the Interior and the outside are refitted by Stadler/ABB.
This train's ceiling prints are very classy !! Wow ! Very detailed more than any other trains in general !! Very impressive !!! Swedish people are clean & huge nature lovers ,very active ,love sports & being outdoors ! Very clean & very very nice train !!! Even the 2nd class cars !! I love this train the best maybe so far !!! A tough call as they are all individually unique !! Thank you so much for this ,Dylan !!! This is so SUPER nice !!!👍👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🎁🚈🚉🎉🍾🥂🎈💕
Great vid, Dylan! Do love an X2000... That the lounge's tardis at 3:09 ...? Happy Christmas to you & your family!
That was quite and enjoyable trip ! The station was really nice looking...The trains are not looking to bad.
Merry Christmas Dylan...:):):)
At 9:27 you have some absolutely epic sun dogs! Gorgeous views! I hope to visit Sweden one day :)
looks like this was your coldest trip yet! a very good Christmas eve/day and boxing day video! I look forward to see your post boxing day video on Monday!
Thanks for another trip ... Merry Christmas
hey dylan mate merry christmas and a happy new year from me louisthetravelspotter i really enjoyed the review i love the design of the train i love the interia and the cab is amazing too
I'm loving the menorahs in the first class lounge!
Not a menorah, they are Advent lights. Every Swedish house has at least one of them. :) they light up dark December through Christmas.
In what scamshop did you buy your metroticket? 50sek for a single trip ticket? The price is 39sek (3,2 pounds)for a 75 min ticket.
Well Done, Lad. Nollaig Chridheil to you and all your kin. Slàinte.
Mòran taing agus Bliadhna Mhath Ùr dhut.
Great to see as I have lots of family in Sweden
Quite nice trains I have to say. Plus Merry Christmas. ☺️
Thank you for sharing. Looks like a fun trip
Did I spot a L U F C scaff where you were sitting ??🤔 I thought your home town was Huddersfield. Anyway, enjoyed that trip, thank you.
Merry Christmas everyone.🤧😁
Another excellent trip report.
50kr for a one way ticket? What? It's 38kr for Adults, 25kr for Students and teenagers and people older than 65..
Japp. Konstigt.
Before they built the new commuter starion, you could walk under one roof to get from the metro/commuter train to the long distance trains! That's one thing that was definitely better before.
You still can
You can tell that it was built in the 80s. Comfortable seats unlike today's modern, rock hard, ergonomic(?) seats.
i don't know why, but i liked this video :)
Very nice trains they seem quite modern indeed I think are they are not as fast as other high speed trains although they can tilt as well I notice that Sweden is still expensive for most things.
Nice video 😀
Thanks
Interesting, wonder who scoffed all the chocolate, hey? 12:21 As a regular train commuter I can assure the basket with chocolate never runs out all the years I have been traveling.
Great video !!
Your the best keep the good work up
Happy Christmas to you lad!
i am happy to tell you that the audio system on the train is still in use you can listen to the swedish national radio in swedish sveriges radio and the radio will cut wehn it is a announcement on the pa system
Thanks for the info!
Merry Christmas Dylan.
Excellent video Dylan just wondering who builds the SJ X2000 ? A Very Merry Christmas to you and all your readers.....
The SJ X2000 was built at the time by ADtranz at its site in Kalmar in south-eastern Sweden, the company was later purchased by Bombardier in 2000 and it is now Alstom in 2020.
@@philipbranco9568 Oh, thank you for the info...
Great video looking good 👍👍👍👍
The bumpiness depends on track and varies with seasons in my experience.
During winter the tracks tend to shorten due to the cold and during summer they expand slightly. Not by much but sometimes enough to notice.
Hey Dylan since it's Christmas Eve could you do a review of the Polar Express cheers 😂
