I would like to let everyone know that any items I put on the ground in stores I always put back where they belong! I also wanted to say that when all that happened at petco I had decided to stand in front of Atlas as a barrier in case the dog tried to come up to us.. I did what I could and I honestly debated on not even putting that part in because I don’t like drama. But this channel is about spreading awareness and unfortunately situations like this are a part of life with a service dog. I want to be a positive channel that spreads awareness, but also really show the ups and down of having a service dog. I hope everyone enjoyed the video and that you all have a wonderful day!❤️✨🦮
There was a lady who took over the isle I was working my fully trained service dog on and she started dropping 13lb bags of dog food, 3 of them 1 after the other… people rly need to work on boundaries, the service dog community as well as just the public audience. Her dog was not focused and def not ready for PA
Like why?? I hate drama. Especially in the sd community, don’t we all have enough to struggle with already? This is why I’m really torn showing that kind of stuff on my channel. Cause I don’t want any drama on my channel, but unfortunately it’s a part of having a sd that I also think needs to be seen and made aware of. Having a sd is not for the faint of heart😣

I really wanted a anxiety/psychiatric service dog so is asked my mom and she kept calling them esa animals and told me it wasn’t happening 🥲 I want one since I have really bad harmful anxiety habits (picking skin, smacking myself, scratching, squeezing my jaw) and cause I have bad social anxiety and attachment issues and thought a service dog would comfort me and help with anxiety attacks, I’m so bummed out
I’m so sorry to hear that.. I know how awful having an unsupportive family member can be. Maybe you can collect all the information on service dogs and the differences between SD’s, ESA’s, and therapy dogs. Even list the things that a sd can help with and then the things that it would help you with. And then talk about what kind of dog might be right for the job. You can even do this all through PowerPoint if you feel that’ll make it more effective for her to understand! I hope you can get the support you need and I hope everything turns out okay and in your favor❤️❤️❤️

I have a psychiatric service dog in training, she’s a Siberian husky. I’m always so worried about people thinking she’s fake. She’s 5 months old and she is honestly going wonderful with her training, only issue that we are working on is pulling on the harness and dpt. If anyone would have any suggestions on how to handle these it would honestly be amazing!
I could do a video on how I personally taught Atlas to heel! But starting out with letting them know what position you want them in is always the best thing to start out with. I used a lure to lure Atlas to my left side in a proper position and only marked and rewarded when he was in the proper place, don’t name that position until you love it! I think it would just be easier for me to make a video than explain it all on here cause there’s more I want to say, but you got this!! And don’t worry about people thinking she’s a fake, she’s in training and will make mistakes! I’d say keep working in pet friendly stores until you feel she’s a little more ready and where you want her obedience wise. Thank you for watching🥺❤️✨🦮

I completely agree!! And that’s a good idea about the laser, you never know and it’s better to be prepared and safe❤️ Ironically he has a retrieval task which I’m still fine tuning with different objects and he retrieves beautifully for me when needed, it’s just when he’s playing ball for some reason he decides nah I’m not gonna get it😂 retriever my butt sometimes lolol

@@nadjadevlugt1828 so I went about it multiple ways. When we would play fetch I would say bring as he was running back to me, since he was real small and I feel like that kind of helped him understand the concept a bit better and I also had already taught him release- letting go of the ball/object. I bought a little training dumbbell on Amazon that’s for teaching retrievals and I would mark (I use a clicker at first) and reward for any touch he would give to the dumbbell. Eventually he got to a point where he would put his mouth around it and after a couple rounds of clicking and rewarding I would say take it, not expecting him to hold it and click and reward. Once he was pretty solid with understanding take it I introduced hold- I would put up my hand in a stay gesture that already he knew and that helped him but sometimes I would gently close his mouth around it for a second or two and say hold if he wasn’t understanding and being too mouthy with it and then I clicked and reward. So once he understood all that I had him take and hold different objects and different shapes and sizes so he could understand that he can hold/put different things in his mouth. And then I slowly built up to dropping things and asking him to bring. At first I would toss the object a bit away from me to mimic fetch so he understood that he needs to bring the object to me, he would drop it at my feet at first but I would keep pointing at it and say bring and when he would finally get it I told him to hold and he would and I would take the object. Now were at a point where I can drop anything right by my feet and he’ll understand to get it and place it in my hand, now we’re working on it in public as well and getting him to understand that he can pick up all kinds of objects or any object I’m asking him to pick up at least. It sounds like a lot but it’s actually gone by quite quickly! I hope that helps, maybe I can make a video on how I taught it and demo it to really show what I did. So I’ve kind of been slowly teaching him that via fetch and tug even from when he was really small so he understood release and bring to an extent. Sorry if it doesn’t make sense I hope it helped in some way!❤️✨
@@helperpupatlas7377 I had my SD with me at the pet store the other day and took her harness off she could be able to snif for a bit and if around what are the other customers mentioned how well behaved she was and said that she doesn’t bring her dog to the store because he doesn’t get along with other dogs I said thank you for doing that because so many people don’t
That’s awesome! It’s always such a breath of fresh air to meet someone who says that they’re working on something with their dog or that they don’t bring their dog to pet friendly stores for one reason or the other.
