Crawler Tire Insert Comparison

  • I remixed this just a bit, after I put it up I realized I forgot a few things that I wanted to put out there.
Passing on my few years experience with different tire inserts. From home printed two super expensive. Pros and cons of each and what I see has the best value for your dollar while trying to be completely unbiased.
Full disclosure, I am a team, driver for SL3D.RC, but that did come well after discovering and using these inserts for quite a while. They are by far the best value for the dollar and neck and neck with the highest performance inserts. I’ve tried, and I would highly recommend you give them a try too .

Awesome info. I'm new to crawling. Got my hands on 2 stage foams & the green 3ds. I'll be doing trail mostly & wet stuff. I can see the benefits of the 2stage though. Thanks for the heads up on not letting the rig sit on the tires.

Depending on what tpu you are using there are settings to change to make softer printed inserts. Infill needs to be set to 3 percent with gyroid pattern. Sometimes even 2 percent if 95a tpu. Also some more very important settings are tp change wall loops to 1 instead of 2, make sure thin wall detection is on and random seam postion. That will 100 percent change those stiff 3d printed ones you made.

@@jasonevans333 thank you. I’ve played with a lot of those settings but the material and quality of the Squid’nserts is something I can’t beat and he already has some for most any size of tote so I just use those. So much easier and they just work.

If you have any hard ones I'll buy them. I want my tires not to balloon at all. Not interested in crawling but I think they'd be helpful with high speed stability. If you can print then the full with of the tire that'd be even better.

If I may be so bold as to offer you some advice about your video presentation...first start by gathering up everything you are going to be covering. Next align the stuff from start to finish (very linear, no back tracking unless it's necessary for comparison to earlier stuff). Finally you don't have to read from a script but at least jot down every talking point about every item you are going to be describing. Look at the items individually and try to write down every bit of information you think is necessary for your viewers and be precise (just the facts/trim the fat). Oh, one last thing that might help would be to have some energy in your presentation. If you don't sound too excited, why should your audience be to see the video? You don't have to be an over the top, zany goofball constantly bouncing all over your studio/filming location but definitely have an energy level greater than that donkey in Winnie the Pooh.
Please take what I've typed above as constructive criticism and not a personal atrack because I believe you have some valuable knowledge to share about the RC world and the more viewers you have, the more you can share with us.

The Blue/White injora need to be placed in a clothes dryer on Medium heat for about 20 minutes for them to re-form into their original shape, they come very compressed and disfigured when they are packaged tightly.

I’d give it a 50/50 chance, but should I really need to do that to my tire inserts? Shouldn’t they just hold up and be ok? Like the Squids and the Antifoams? I’m sure the Flubber Stuffers wouldn’t have this problem either. I’d rather buy one set of inserts that perform and are worry free than buy a set that has to be maintained or repaired or even replaced periodically. Wouldn’t you?

Running the injora dual stage foams on my scx10.3 and love them. I run flubs in my 24s but for 10 a pair I am impressed with the injora ones. Blues are smaller tires. Reds are for bigger tires. Stiff inner soft outer.

Those were also some that I forgot to mention. I have the blue Injora in my Gen8 trail truck and they work pretty well though not quite as soft as the Proline or CI. I haven’t found a use for the red ones. Way too stiff in my opinion for crawling.

Good comparison video. There have been many inserts that have come out over the past few years since "Just Scalin" released his in the UK. One thing you highlighted is that inserts made with higher quality TPU (like 3Bros, Squid, and DBHobby uses) really makes a huge difference. That particularly TPU is way more expensive but the quality can't be beat. Inserts made from cheaper TPU feels more "plastic" and gives a stiffer feel that is more challenging to use when competing. Also, it was great to mention that you can tune the inserts by changing infill. I know DBHobby offers that as well and it was good to know Squids does too. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.

That’s great. Like I said I think they’re both quality products but I’m personally not sold on a directional insert and they’re both some of the most expensive inserts to buy. Try the Squids and see what you think. They’re about half the price but in my opinion do just as well. Plus the custom sizes and infill options are really nice.

I’d say the same thing about the Squid’n’serts. In fact they had me on the podium in all six of our state semifinals and helped me get 1st place in class 3 in the state finals which drew in competitors from California, Arizona and others. That’s not even getting into the local comps.
Now, I’ve tried the YZZR inserts and found them lacking. What other inserts have you tried and compared the YZZRs to?

@@andrewupsidedown ALT squids? Well hopefully YZZR did something to improve them for the sake of the customers. The Squids on the other hand have needed no change in design or materials. @@Ginga_Ninja_RC sorry missed , between the two 👌 and great for them.
Sometimes it takes trial and error to get it right but YZZR has been dedicated to making the best insert possible for an affordable price while being a one man band. I'm simply stating that they are a contender in the competition world and have giving even the very best foam and printed inserts a run for there money

    • @Ginga_Ninja_RC
      @Ginga_Ninja_RC  Рік тому

@@andrewupsidedown SL3D is also a one man band, and dedicated to the same thing. I’m just saying that put side by side there’s no comparison in my opinion. The squids are more durable, more conforming, better material, have more size and firmness options, and a better quality product for the price. The $50 for a set of Squids is a better value than the $35 for the YZZR and I’ve seen the differences from first hand experience and testing.

I have tried hair buns as well, but forgot to mention them in this video. I was surprised at how well they did. They were actually really close to the Proline dual stages in my opinion. I don’t vent my tires as much if they have dual stage foams in them, but if you’re running 3-D printed inserts there’s not too many reasons not to vent them. Yes. I put a thin layer of E 6000 or shoe goo around the center ring before putting the wheel together. The ones I’ve done that with don’t move at all but you can still take them apart if you need to. I don’t know if that would work as well for the dual stage foams, because it might tear them apart when you try to disassemble the wheel again.
