    I feel like technic is good for trucks, cranes, planes and other models which have the opportunity to have lots of functions. Creator expert is probably the best for cars that need lots of detail

    A technic-system hybrid set is something I've been dreaming about. Just imagine building a structurally sound and feature rich chassis, and then layering on system bricks, making the model clean and detailed. It's the best of both worlds! I think Lego should create another theme dedicated to such hybrid models.

      Take it one step even further if let’s say you built yourself into a corner and you need to make it work. Let’s say it’s a truck that u need to build, but all the connection points for a system truck is used up, (idk how but you built yourself into a corner) there’s a technic connection point avaliable. The rear quarter panels are system and the truck is technic

    Idk I guess I'm one of the weird people who really like the technic aesthetic a lot. There's just something I like about building things within certain limitations. And I love the concept of building recognizable vehicles out of mostly technic style pieces. It's the whole reason I like Lego to begin with. Building a millennium falcon using only Lego pieces is to me much more impressive and cool than just buying a plastic model kit with perfectly molded parts.

    Seeing the comments here, I want to clarify something. The Lego Group has around 300 hundred set designers, devided theme by theme; there is a group for Technic, one for CE, others for Friends, City, Ninjago, Star Wars. This is really the core of the problem: the Creator Expert team is the one that is primarily focusing on adults, weighing into a modelling perspective, but giving some interesting functions as a bonus. The technic team on the other hand is also focusing on an older group, most kids get into technic when they stop playing with the minifigures, around the age of 12-16. These fans however really grow up fast, and become adults, potentially seeking more eyecatching and expensive sets within their favored realm. Therefore they both have pretty good reosons to produce these sets independently. To top it off the two themes have very different legacies, Technic always being more sceletal, and engineery; while the CE sets being monumental, heavy, and sometimes boring to build (this have been getting better lately though) but always delivering superb visuals. It is two separate worlds within the Lego Group, with fundementally different disign methods and perspectives; therefore, it is quite hard to imagine that they woud have a reaon to sit down and do something in between. It is also possible that the end product would be disliked by both fan groups.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  3 роки тому +2

      That's what I am talking about - they exist as two separate worlds, yet in the recent years they are slowly but surely progressing into each other's territory. Some Technic sets becoming display models, some CE models incorporating more and more functions. Why wouldn't they break the barriers and start a real cooperation? I don't want the two themes to disappear, but the tendencies show that a mixed approach could bring the best of both worlds.

    I am very new to Lego and although I love the working engine and gearbox on the Technic, the detail on the creator series is so much better. Unfortunately, every time I move my 911 Turbo or Fiat 500 or VW bus/Beatle a piece falls off or lodges out of position... I would love the best of both worlds!

    I'm a Technic devotee through and through. But over time as I build more cars in Technic with rather similar functions, I'm much more interested in more highly specialised Technic vehicles with more unusual functions.
    Creator Expert (and Creator, and way back, Model Team :) ) are my second love in LEGO. I adore them.
    So I love your idea @RacingBrick! A Creator Expert car with some purebred Technic function's at its heart would be wonderful. A chance for me to love some cars with Technic chops, where those very familiar functions would be a joy to see in something more detailed. And then I can go to non-car Technic for that does of getting deeply engaged with some cool engineering!

  • @brickphisto2321

    Definitely Creator Expert wins over Technic. I would love to see the best of both worlds combined but we will not get it. Putting a Technic core inside a System shell is so much more complicated and complex. So it is cheaper and less frustrating for Lego as well as for the customers to do either Technic or System.

    I’ve built both the Ferrari 488 and the 911 turbo and can say with 100% certainty the Porsche was soooo much more fun to build but the technic Ferrari was less enjoyable but looks soooooo good (especially when you do the suspension lowering bc by the book it looks like a rally car with that giant wheel gap)

  • @jlothrop91
    @jlothrop91 2 роки тому +1

    Some of the 6stud speed champions cars have suspension (ex. mini cooper rally car), so I don't see a reason why creator cars couldn't have simple suspension, steering (removable hog gear?) and maybe even a motor block.
    More expensive? Absolutely. But I would buy a $300 set with that added over a $200 set without.
    You can even hide the HoG steering if you are clever - see the Jeep wrangler technic set

  • @Xizario2
    @Xizario2 3 роки тому +1

    I think technic sets without empty space ar less extendable. Putting pullbacks inside the Ferrari is really fun for 4 year old. Time for me building, time for him playing. Same for a motorized version. With other lego sets a problem is that you don't have room to place motors inside them. In the same time if the Ferrari had motors in the package it would be more expensive and I would not buy it, I really don't need more hubs as I have some sets already.
    So every sets have its purpose. And 1 or 2 nice looking shells with big empty space inside per year is quite nice idea.

I like the more cleaned and shaped form without too many holes in it and the design is more close to the real one when there isnt open holes in most of places. Owning all of creator vechicles except 2008 VW and the creator ferrari. Its a very pleasing look to have them all by each others side. i think there is a very simple reason for not having techic chassis + system body: it would mean that the technic system would have to return to bricks over liftarms in order to make it work, which are quite a bit more expensive to make for lego than cheap ass liftarms. 2 Years ago this answer wouldnt have crossed my mind but nowadays, seeing how incredibly profitoriented the lego corp has become im quite sure that thats the only reason

    5:10 this is so true but LEGO doesn't realise this...
    Germany has a very big Technic Community and from what I can tell a lot of People here
    agree with a UA-camr(don't want to advertise) that 50% of Technic Sets sucks now
    and a lot of Sets aren't that great.
    He made some reviews and comparisons to older LEGO Sets and showed that most Sets have less features and showed some alternative Brands
    that cost more but are remote Controlled and have a lot more Pieces. (I don't like alternatives thought)
    He adored Model Team, a theme that had the best of both worlds. He also thinks that the Supercars belong into a different category(similar to what Racers used to be).
    He hated the Porsche and Ferrari at 5:39 because they are branded as Technic but have Zero to no Functions.
    Suspension, steering and opening Doors used to be minor Features in Technic.
    His biggest critic is to all Control+ Sets because Apps don't really work and don't support creativity.
    He also thinks that Physical Controller are better because with Apps you need to look at your Phone to Control it because you have no haptic Feedback.
    I agree whit a lot of his points on Technic and just hope LEGO changes things for the better.

    I am a big fan of both System and Technic. But both systems have a different purpose IMO. If you want to make something that is functional, it often benefits from being both light and strong, and in that case, the best material is LEGO Technic. If esthetics are the primary concern, then LEGO System should be the prime candidate, perhaps with a Technic core.
    In my opinion, LEGO Technic sets are a bit boring at the moment. We are basically getting the same stuff as 10 years ago. Sure, some cool new parts, but most of the sets are nothing to get really excited about (number X lackluster supercar...yawn). However, the story is totally different in the System space. Some of the new system stuff, like the new Speed Champions sets, are really pushing the envelope, very cool!

    I agree with much of what you say
    I have all the creator expert cars etc, as I like the detail and build them for the system lego build experience.
    I have very many technic sets (including most of the flagship sets from 1996 onwards) , and build/motorize/play with them for the technic experience. This time period covers the old and new style technics, and I like both and appreciate the differences in build style.
    I do have the white technic Porsche- but don't understand the lack of HofG, and so have not bought the recent sets as they are lacking the technic functional points.
    As for the 3 large expert technic sets (Sian, Orange Porsche, and Bugatti), I do like these, they are a different enough and a good build and I accept they are not really that playable, rather a display item. It is the middle sized recent cars that don't work - not enough functions to be technic for the price.

    I like my Technic. It has a unique feel and from an engineering standpoint is much easier to work with. Not to mention that it tends to be much sturdier.

    I have said this already, when it comes to vehicles like cars ( civilian cars), Creator Expert is the best to showcase them. In Creator Expert, vehicles are given more attention to detail, clean builds ( no rough or skeletal edges and gaps), playabilty , accessibility, easy to build and more affordable. The recent creator vehicles is the testament to this For example DB5, Mustang,the Volks , Ferrari F40( best Lego Ferrari hands down, the technic version is a hot pile of garbage).
    Technic sets do one thing really well and that is "Function overform". They are best use to showcase advance and complicated machineries that are either complex or multipurpose. It's really amazing how you can see how each gear functions , operates and interact with the overall build. Examples are Excavators, The Cranes , bulldozers ,Lifts, Tractors etc . Don't get me wrong technic cars are awesome but they don't offer much when you compare them to other non-tehnic cars like the crane . Also technic cars are sometimes over priced or expensive,hard to build , less accessible and offers little playability. Another problem with technic cars is that when Lego decide to budget them ,they even become worse and have a non sturdy and skeletal build (technic Ferrari).

    I feel as if LEGO is trying to introduce people to Technic pieces and building techniques, in non Technic sets for one of two reasons. Selling more Technic pieces to offset production costs, lowering the overall price, and raising availability of Techinc sets. Getting people to comfortably graduate to Technic as they move forward in life.

    I hope Lego will bring back the old Lego Technic pneumatic backhoe loader and universal sets of the 80s and early 90s. I think the current batch of Lego Technic sets are still good, just not as good as the 8455, 8880 or 8480.

    Lack of basic functions like HOG steering on the larger models is very odd, at least mid sized kits like the Senna have some functionality.
    Personally I prefer the creator expert kits but I've got a decent amount of technic for display as well, although they aren't usually the model cars but kits like the Volvo 6x6.

    I have to agree with you... These cars are not real technic any more. When it's assembled, you don't even see any more how the functions work.
    When I was a kid, we had the Model Team series which was what you suggested. And we had Technic where all functions were exposed so you could see, how it actually works.

    - Creator (Expert) is great as it is (we can see some technic pieces added there already and hopefully some more to be added with a time)
    - Technic none-cars should stay (but lego tries to simplify them a bit too much nowadays)
    - Technic cars sets are the weakest Technic we can buy (not much technical functions, too big for storing, not much play-ability, mechanics are not visible any longer) so I would expect from lego to add more technic functions into them and allow to easily see all mechanism - this should be technic not display models!

    Technic is more sturdy, but i dont ''play'' with lego, so unless lego makes them remotecontrollable i really do not see a reason to buy anything technic over system.

    I think Technic core and system shell could work. We've already seen it in some Star Wars Droid sets and statues. However, I don't think classic features like the fake piston engines wouldn't really fit in a "Creator Expert" style car.

    The 1:10 technic cars are, in my opinion, a waste of money. They offer the same boring functions and the structure feels fragile and empty. The ferrari doesn't look great, those printed headlights and ride height look bad. They are expensive, too.
    What I don't understand is that the Land Rover Defender has a working transmission, way better looks, more functions, more interesting parts, 800 pieces more... For the same price!
    To me Lego should release more sets like the Land Rover. For half of the price of a 1:8 supercar, it has nearly the same functions
    1:10 cars --> NOT worth it :(

    You have the red and green stripes on the red Ferrari wrong. They don't flow. The 2 small bits in front of the spoiler should be turned over. If this is how the instructions are shown it is a mistake.
