I completely forgot the video title until I saw this 😂 You're damn right, those first details were genius. I think the first bad model he mentioned was the Bonsai, which isn't exactly bad, but it is difficult to build and has some issues in the instructions, though nothing too serious. I'm looking forward to rebuilding mine on insane difficulty, with all the pieces piled up in the box 😂

Update to my previous reply: I didn't rebuild the bonsai, my 6 year old did, and he made it look easy 🤷🏻‍♂️ There were no issues with the instructions and the pages were all light coloured. No brown-on-black action like the video said. Something's off about this vid 😅

1:53 There's a similar moment to this in the Alpine Lodge set. In bag 1, they have you build a pine tree, and place it loosely onto a snowmobile transport. In the very last bag, it pictures a pine tree, one that it doesn't give you the pieces to build. It has the same bag symbol, bag 1. You pick that pine tree back up off the snowmobile, decorate it, and put it in the lobby of the lodge. It adds a story into the building of the set itself.

      SCP-42069
SCP-42069 is a Keter-class anomaly, consisting of 2 objects, SCP-42069-1 and SCP-42069-2. SCP-42069-1 appears to be a normal red 2 stud lego axle at first glance. However, this is far from the truth. It is contained by a non-anomalous lego plant, which is designated SCP-42069-2, however this can easily be removed. SCP-42069-1 is capable of destroying reality as we know it if it is not in containment for more than 69 minutes. In the event that SCP-42069-1 is no longer contained by SCP-42069-2, recontainment protocol requires that someone must immediately pick it up in special gloves, and place it back into SCP-42069-2, and then quickly place the lid back over it.
      Incidents
The first and only incident involving SCP-42069 occurred on June 9, 2007, in the western United States. During a test on SCP-42069, SCP-42069-1 was let out of SCP-42069-2 for 69 minutes and 15 seconds, during which, it managed to delete the entire population of Wyoming, where the site, Site-420, was located. SCP-42069-1 was quickly placed back into SCP-42069-2, and the lid was sealed tightly on. Anyone who knew people from Wyoming were given class-C amnestics. Security was tightened around it, and no more tests were conducted about how long it was safe for SCP-42069-1 to be uncontained. There have been no other incidents since then.

In the Himeji Castle set, there's an entire area built between steps 144 and 172 that is never to be seen again. Yet, it appears to have some components that you would think would be visible. There are also some passageways built into the walls of the main gate area that, without a tiny mirror, you can't really see in the completed set.

2:03 that’s actually quite common. some chima sets use it for chi, which is usually given to minifigs in bag 1 then later attached to the build. It’s also often used for those minifig accessories bags(like blades from ninjago or ghost parts from hidden side) since there are counted as 1 piece but are needed throughout the set

At best, you'd get a picture with 4 steps that didn't clearly show where some pieces went or how they attached. 09:18 'Spot the difference ' is kinda how I liked it haha! I had Lego in my youth, and picked it up again a few years ago woth the Christmas village themes. I noticed how easy it was now. During the covid years I rebuild my old Lego, and putting together the 6270 Pirate Island was pretty difficult at times. I still like it because it becomes a bit of a puzzle instead of cookie-cutter.
With new sets I started to cut open all bags and dump them together in a bin. Very satisfying to rummage through that looking for a 1x1 specific piece ;)

The axle down the center of the turntable at 2:32 help stop the turntable from popping apart if the model is lifted by its head. The turntable clips into its base with the same mechanism that a frictionless pin does into a Technic beam (split with tabs on the outside to lock into the hole); the axle prevents these tabs from pushing in, making it a lot harder for the pin on the turntable to disengage from the base if pulled (like if someone lifted the model by its head for example)

I remember the spot the difference style instructions as late as rock raiders sets. I remember missing a random 1x1 piece in the chrome crusher set and having to backtrack steps until I discovered where the error was. quite a puzzle back then.

the 9:32 style of instructions brings back memories. I really liked them, they didn't hold your hand and were like a puzzle on themselves. Helped think spatially, too, which is useful; After all, when the set is finished, it's time to build new things with the bricks.

In the Knuckles' Guardian Mech set from the Sonic the Hedgehog line you are told to put 3 green crystal pieces in the Master Emerald. I was confused about this 'till I realised it was a reference to the Sonic Adventure games and how to beat Knuckles' stages you need to find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald. I love when they have deep cut references for fans in the liscenced sets like this.

I'm rebuilding sets from the late 80's and early 90's and I've only just realized now how they didn't show what pieces you needed in each step. It was just hey here's the next step compare it to the previous one lol.

And the Architecture Pyramid does the same trick with LEGO Axle pieces, yet they do it for money grabbing reasons; forcing you to buy a second 150 Euro Pyramid to make a complete set instead of the half one.

My childhood is filled with those old Lego sets, and as I now have kids of my own, I find modern Lego builds ... well ... to easy.

Speed champions DB5 uses the same 1x1 plate trick the ferrari does. And I loved hidden spots like the treehouse has when I was a kid. Pretty sure some of the pirate or wild west sets had similar features.
Pretty sure the parts box at the top only shows new parts. Since the landing craft instruction has no new parts, just tells you to put previously built assemblies together it's not a completely useless step. Kinda sloppy they left the empty box there, though. And the hulkbuster one is just odd.

Here's an instructions mistake (sort of).
Just got the new Iron Golem Fortress for Christmas (Merry Christmas, by the way) and at the beginning of bag 2, on step 7 of building the skeleton horse, the small box has you build the back legs of the skeleton horse but then points to the neck instead of the back legs. Please feature when you can :)

I came here to comment that my bonsai tree instructions were perfectly easy to read due to the browns being noticeably different colors.
However reading some comments, it seems like the issue is the black background? Mine is about a year old now but the instructions have an off-white background.
The lighter browns look reddish and bright, and the dark browns are not super dark where you can’t see the outlines.
It really seems like a printing issue with the black backgrounds.
