Your style of content creation is a much needed break from the regular repetitive ones often shown. Would love to see more. Especially of the cost of living, not only on Dakar but places like Saly and other cities outside of Dakar. ❤️
What I love is that you show the beauty while telling of the challenges. It encourages the viewer to understand that the experience will not be (or should not be) a heavy list of downsides because there are so many sides to any place. Beautifully done!
I loved watching your video. I am moving to Senegal this week and cannot wait. Thank you for sharing your journey so far. I hope to find hidden gems like you
I'm currently on a 35 day vacation in dakar. I can't believe this place. It makes.me want to sell all my assets and start over here.... I don't know how I'd do it... maybe start a restaurant or an airbnb... but this place is paradise... I think I met the love of my life here... it hurts knowing I have to leave.... I can't believe this heaven on earth exists..
Senegal is on the ireland, beaches everywhere and that might be the utmost reason why is sandy like you said,Am a youtuber (Nigeria)living here in Dakar senegal, you are welcome sis.in all senegal is peaceful.New subscriber.
I lived there for two years. Downsides: Malarial mosquitos and huge, aggressive flies that will swarm on your food if you're outside eating. Taxis, as you said, require negotiation each time you enter one. Few of the taxis are in good condition. If you get one with a seat belt, you're lucky. If you get one with A/C, you must have hired a driver specifically. The languages are French and Wolof. If you don't speak either, talking to locals is a struggle. The slow pace of EVERYTHING will grind your nerves until you get used to it. If you have a car, it has to be washed DAILY due to the sand from the Sahel. Kids begging on the street is both irritating and heart breaking. But parents hand them over to the religious leaders who put them on the street to beg. Lastly, the Toubob pricing even hits you if you're a black American, making an expensive place even more so.
I went to Dakar and hated it. So when people say that Dakar is better than Ghana...that's shocking. This video makes Dakar look better than it actually is.
Very insightful video! I am curious about the social side of Dakar, making friends, dating etc. and also the food esp since jollof originated there. Lastly, the job market - is it difficult for foreigners to get a job?
I've had an easy time making friends, but I must admit the majority are not Senegalese. I work as a freelancer, so I cannot speak to the job market for a 9 - 5, but all my friends who work 9-5 seem to have found jobs fairly easily.
This video is beautiful. The shore, the ocea/sea, the beautiful homes and landscape, the fresh fruits my my. Perhaps you should have shown the flies or the hassle with the roads or taxi drivers, and then your title would have been understood. Thanks for sharing
♥️ your video! That looks like Goree to me. I think Senegal is so beautiful! I’m planning to either buy land and build a home or rent a house there within the next year or so. Thanks for sharing your insight!
I am thinking ambitiously these days. Actually, for about 3 years, I've been considering moving to Africa. In this time, I have been researching different countries. I will begin visiting, vacationing this fall. First Tanzania, Damar and so forth
@@zazzyfieldsbrown go for it and I wish you all the success in the world. I’ve been all over West Afrika and my 1st choice to repatriate is definitely Dakar!
Hi, Jessica great to know that there is a sister living in Dakar. Im planning to visit Dakar next year. I hope you can give me advice on what best to do as a female traveling alone. Greetings A. Oppong
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I’m thinking about moving there but I have a small business and I am an artist. How difficult is it to move there permanently? How is the art scene? Is it easy to collaborate and make connections within that scene? I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦 pls continue sharing your experience in Dakar with us🙏🏽🤍
Hi! Immigration stuff is pretty straight forward. For me, the art scene is extremely vibrant! I'm coming from Accra so that's what I'm comparing it to. Someone coming from NYC or Paris may not feel the same way. And I haven't found it too difficult to meet like-minded people. I hope this helps!
I was going to say as you’re complaining, the video isn’t matching. It looks so calming and enjoyable 🤣 but I get you. Loved your shots on this one. Really enjoyed watching it.
In chaa Allah I will visit again , senegal is a beautiful country. All praise to God . I visted 2 years ago , i was well received and was treated like a queen. Much respect
In your previous video you talked about how hot and humid it is in Accra. Do foreigners feel they have to spend their life in sit conditioning 24/7? Can you elaborate on that, and about the infrastructure relating to electricity, water, Internet, transportation ,safety, and medical services? Are there neighborhoods close to the amenities like you found in Dakar?
Finding work for Diaspora. I speak English and a little french. But I am in construction but I would work anywhere where English speaking is not a huge barrier. Preferably construction
greetings jessica, i came across your channel while i search for travel vlogs in dakar. i want to visit this summer and as i read the entry requirement, if i understood properly, vaccine is not mandatory. and i would like to know how much is it to get a covid pcr test when returning back to the uk from senegal, dakar. if you have any idea, please? and if there’s a cheap air bnb also, please? i’ll check out some air bnb also but if you can help, that would be great. thank you
Hi Marie - a PCR test is 25k CFA. You need a negative test from the UK if you're not vaccinated. As for Airbnb, you'll have to check on the site and see what is on the market! hope this helps!

Too many close ups. I had a hard time telling WHERE you were. So the filming felt very claustrophobic. But I appreciate your observations. The frequent protesting is a vestige of France. 🇫🇷 The French protest often - it’s almost a tradition. And as they say… namely in French speaking Africa, all roads lead to Paris. This also could be why they are rather reserved. French people are the same way. They could care less about customer service. They just don’t get the concept the I don’t want to come to your restaurant if you treat me like I’m a bother.
Thanks for the video. I literally want to slap that cat dragging the other with a broom. Both are big cats too. I deal with constant dust, flies & gnats in the states, I don't know if I want these same issues in Africa as constant. I may have to choose an African country with milder weather. Wait, no Afrobeat, no ma'am! lol
Im a senegalese and hearing this from a "foreigner" makes these things even more true. I hope that overall we treated you well.

Love Senegal. Ill be back there in December
I'm in Senegal now and those are the two things that struck me as downsides too - dust and sandy and or muddy sidewalks.
I feel you the government isn’t doing much for that plus being in the desert doesn’t really help.
So how come so many Europeans lives there, black people you complain too dame much

How is the running water and electricity there sis?
A westerner can't drink the water. Electricity goes out so you'll need a UPS for your electronics.
