I want to be very clear here that I have no idea how those particular men (that just happened to be in my clip) feel about sitting in a pastel caterpillar 🙈 If that is you and you see this… I’m sorry 😂 Claude Coats was the lead designer of this attraction back in 1958 when it opened. It was originally going to be an opening day attraction as a walk-through that would have been next to Snow White and her Adventures but time and money delayed the attraction. Claude Coats was chosen for the project because he was a key background artist for the color and styling of Alice in Wonderland film alongside Mary Blair. Because Claude Coats was the one that designed the vehicle, he had to take out the patent. He argued with the legal department and said no, it was Walt idea, it wasn’t mine, but they said because he was the designer that he had to file it, which he did on May 8, 1959. The patent was issued on January 12, 1960 and listed Claude D. Coats as the inventor. Disney legal then told him that they wanted the patent, so he signed it over to Disneyland Inc. for $10. I think the playing card vehicles could have been interesting though, especially considering that the card soldiers and Queen of Hearts wasn’t even in the original attraction. Claude Coats was trying to add them so they would have as many touch points as possible with the original film.
As a man who feels little to no embarrassment in my favorite places on this planet (DLR and WDW), I ride in many whimsical vehicles (giant rats, part of a train, a cartoon cab, a monster cab, a frog’s stolen car, a self driving keep in India, a giant beehive or honey pot, two large seashells, caved out elephants, logs, tiny flying boats, dwarves beds apparently? And of course a large piece of curved black plastic in a mansion in New Orleans) I would have to say riding in a big pink caterpillar is one of the least embarrassing ride vehicles to be seen in. Honestly the most embarrassing thing you can be caught sitting in in a Disney park is probably a chair (looking at you muppet vision, which is the greatest thing ever)
Love the caterpillar! I've never been to Disneyland. I live near Disney world. Don't care for the teacups spinning around would love to have the caterpillar
I'm not following the line about the tree? Was there really some trivia about its planting/ placement... or is your vo just a joke because of the guys in the shot?

Random fact: there is a near-exact clone of the og Alice ride at Blackpool pleasure beach in England.

Self driving keep in India?
Lol I meant self driving car in india
Lol I meant self driving car in india
Ok, but what ride has a self driving car in India as its vehicle?
Indiana jones
The old ending is just strobe lights, signs and then screaming doors before the vine.
I love hearing new things and that little note about Tony Baxter and about the ride vehicles
All your content is fascinating and well put together, keep going! 🎉

I hope someday they add it to WDW like they had originally planned. But it’s not likely.
That's was actually a good call
Walt was right!
Walthad a keen idea what was good for children
Where can I find that song!
I'm sad about what they did to the leaves you ride along at the end. Made them much wider ruining the effect.
Yeah that was a sad day when they changed the vine. But it is safer for those who work there, which is also important.

It really was planted because they found men wouldn’t ride bc they were embarrassed to be seen in a pastel caterpillar. It was in the 1980s refurb.
@@disneyciceronesome men are so pathetic lmao💀
I live in Ohio and the first and only time I went to Disney land the ride was closed
That’s so sad! It’s one of my favorites.
all that just to make a ride of a car going through cardboard doors and wall cut-outs.
Thank goodness today’s dads are in the “live our best lives” era and not embarrassed by a little “shimmer”
