It turned out SO much better than WDW's, I'm so happy with the final product! It's clear to me that the team behind this attraction designed it for Disneyland's space and later reworked it to fit into WDW. Can't wait to ride it for myself in November!
@@Scooopity While there still are many issues the way the Disneyland attraction is laid out lends itself to the quicker narrative. Plus the animatronics have been rearranged and the effects have been improved. Even simple changes like having a transition between the first drop and the first scene. It keeps light from bleeding in. Also the final lift hill light effect is better as the top is more closed off and traps the fog in the room.
This was used to be Splash Mountain based on Walt Disney's Song of the South (1946). Also, perfect timing for Disney's The Princess and the Frog 15th Anniversary.
So much better than MK’s. 🐸 I’m surprised they are running the final drop dry. I thought it might be to make less of a splash, but NOOOO 😂 I’m sorry you got drenched!!! 💚
My hopes were extremely low after seeing the WDW version. I'm still disappointed that the entire ride is just one party (rather than the suspenseful buildup before the drop in Splash Mountain), but I have to admit this ride is very well done.
The ride was originally built to hype up the final drop, and the (purposeful) decision to have an incredibly tame story that does the opposite is utterly baffling.
Even if they didn’t want Facilier, and wanted to save money on animatronics, they could have still put tension into the drop. It could have been you sailing too close to the waves and getting sucked into the current, as the characters try to change your course and then ultimately wish you luck and advise you to hold on tight with clear resignation. It doesn’t have to be out of a horror movie necessarily, (although again, would be AWESOME) just building an appropriate amount of tension
@@jonathancompton3897yeah… I agree, change will be hard especially in this case, but you will love it soon, luckily, the splash mountain in Tokyo is STILL open and has no plans of closing
The end is nice but I still miss the boat scene. And it's super tacky how Mama Odie is basically selling beignets at the end. And it still doesn't make sense how the story changed from finding a spice to looking for band members (since the song at the end is about how the special spice is you). Why change that? And the Tiana's sign that you can see from the Treehouse is also incredibly tacky. They should either make that blend in with the mountain color wise or remove it.
I agree. I preferred the original story about finding a special spice, because it seems the rise was designed around that. Also, finding said spice is the clear goal of the ride, rather than finding band members which is a “soft” goal, as there’s no specified number they need and they can theoretically quit anytime they think they have enough of them
There are many wonderful things about Tiana's Bayou Adventure, but where it falls short is that to "tell the story" of the attraction it too-often relies on language -- written signage throughout the ride, as well as dialogue by animatronics. It fails to utilize the long-admired Disney style of visual storytelling, pioneered in animated films nearly a century ago and later mastered in theme parks. Here are two examples: In the first big lift where we first see Tiana, she is verbally telling us we need to find members for the band. This is no visual story-telling because if you do not understand English you have no idea what the premise of the attraction is. There is nothing visual about this scene that says "this story is about needing music and a band." If Marc Davis or Tony Baxter, as examples, were designing this attraction, were would no doubt be visual storytelling to supplement and enhance. If the frosted glass doors behind Tiana had silhouettes projected on them of haphazard band members with trombones and tubas blaring discordant notes, and Tiana had her hands clasped to ears to block the "awful music" during the stall periods between delivering her dialogue, then she could pull her hands away and ask for our help. The "problem" of the story and our role in "fixing" it would be concisely conveyed in a visual, animated, thematic way. Here's another example, as you approach the barn lift, there is sign announcing the party ("A Celebration of Family and Friends of New Orleans..."). This requires reading, and there is nothing else about this sign or environment that suggests "party," so if you can't read you have no idea what is being conveyed. This is not only bad because of the broad age-range of Tiana fans and the fundamental requirements of entertaining non-English visitors, but reading a sign doesn't work as quickly or viscerally as other thematic cues. There should be some other decorative elements around the front of the barn lift such as string lights, festive lanterns, or Mardi Gras style decorations to convey "party" without reading the text itself. These are two examples of how the story-telling of this attraction doesn't quite live up to Disney's track record in this field and how nominal-cost enhancements could greatly improve the attraction and experience for all guests. Whether riders understand English, are hearing impaired, too young to read quickly, or have difficulty hearing and understanding the spoken dialogue -- and for everyone else who has come to love Disney's long-standing excellence in theme park storytelling -- I hope Disney layers these types of enhancements into Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
The storytelling is fundamentally the fatal flaw with this version. The story isn't conveyed well, and whatever story is present is a terrible match with a more thrilling ride that was purpose built to build up to a dramatic final drop. They tried shoving a square peg of a story into a round hole of a ride, and the rough corner cutting they did to make that work is incredibly obvious.
This is by far the best critique of the ride I’ve ever seen. It took me years before I was able to fully follow the story of Splash Mountain, (mostly because I was too chicken to ride it normally) but I could always immediately pick up on the mood and tone of each scene. That shows strong storytelling. Even stronger is the storytelling in the era of Claude Coats and Marc Davis. Can you imagine what Pirates of the Caribbean would have been like if the Jolly Roger at the start of the ride said “listen up people, we’re going to send you back in time to the golden age of pirates so you can learn about them”?
That drop where you shrink got me the most soaked. First and last drop barely got me wet. I was sitting all the way in the front since I don't remember splash. Last I rode it was when I was 5
You nailed it! Put the new stuff in DCA. Tiana the movie was mid level at best. A restaurant and maybe a gift shop would have been more than enough. They took and iconic ride and replaced it with a mediocre one. Not good
Definitely better than WDW version but still going to miss Splash Mountain. I'm guessing they are still working on it since there is a big hole in the wall at the end?
The only props I can give are that with Disneylands version, there isn't as much dead space between scenes as the WDW version and they used more greenery on the mountain as well as covering most of the red dirt look. The scenes still arent as lively as they need to be, the music arrangement does not work, the color scheme is horrible, the cast member uniforms are bland and like Florida's version, the ride is still boring. The story is just bad, like a Disney version of Dora the Explorer. They are looking for a jazz band to play at their party, even though Tiana already had one for her restaurant, and, let's not forget this part, THEY ARE IN NEW ORLEANS! Saying they couldn't find a jazz band is like saying you can't find anyone with a cell phone in a crowded modern theme park. I get Splash Mountain was out of date with the whole Song of the South theme but they could have at least made it's replacement something good instead of whatever this is.
I give it a 5 out of 10. I’m not a fan of the screens. Lots of color, but the story is not fluid. Music is good. Just watched Splash mountain POV, and there is NO comparison. Disney dropped the ball on this refurb.
At least there were fewer instances of disembodied voices forcing a narrative as you drifted past empty scenes, and they actually put Louis in the garden scene which makes a LOT more sense. Overall it just feels like an assaulting cacophony of loud sounds and gauche color palates. Unfortunately there isn't a single scene where you can really pause and take stock of what is happening. But I will say, the Disneyland's version of getting tiny worked out so much better, both the dialogue and the intent is clearer, but it still is really the worst part of the ride. I won't be happy to go on this attraction as I was with Splash Mt, but I will go on it simply because it's a flume with a splash drop. For all the soul and flavor they tried to put into this ride, it ends up leaving you confused and empty.
For my what if plan: The Walt Disney Company will break it up into two and form their own company because of a dispute to the New Tiana's Bayou Adventure at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, while Splash Mountain will remain the same at Tokyo Disneyland and the fictional Disneyland Sydney in Australia. And with the new Tiana's Bayou Adventure water ride, they will form The New Walt Disney Company where everything here on this is cheap and poor, while the other employees will not go to work at The New Walt Disney Company will form The Old Walt Disney Company that still has Splash Mountain in Japan and Australia which is for the rich and expensive.

Really well done but the drop ambiance used to be scary which made the anticipation for the drop more fun in my opinion.
No I agree. The tension and high stakes made it so much more impactful. Dr. Facilier should have been in there (as a spirit)
