    I got the bounce ironed out by simply shifting my CG back from the first strap like you did. Let me say you are probably one of the best reviewers out there. You go over throughly the CG’s you have figured out and that helps the rest of us tremendously. Your very honest with what you are encountering in your flights which helps the rest of us cut down on surprises. Thank you and keep up the excellent work, your reviews have guided my last three plane purchases and your videos have helped me to iron out minor issues. Thank you for your time to make the videos and helping those of us who are working to become better pilots.

      Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Glad you got the bouncing sorted. The model lands very nicely, but can get pretty heavy on the elevator in the flare of the cg is too far forward.

      Hi Sherman. "Bounce"? Yikes! I have not flown my new Viper 90mm yet, (super nervous to try) and I was unaware this was a problem with this model. My Cirrus is like that - and it makes me crazy! Are you actually flying slightly tail-heavy then? I appreciate the heads-up, this kind of info is so helpful. Thank you! Dale

    First impressions are strong impressions: You are very professional, organized, knowledgeable, put primarily as an instructor and teacher, you have all the qualities of a great presenter and none of the annoying and scatterbrained traits that a few of the other UA-cam artists have. Did I mention you are a great pilot. You don't overtalk the flight which is distracting from listening to the beautiful sound of this great jet. Thanks so much for just that big Plus! Such a relief to listen to your explanations and tips. This is my next plane. Just bought the Habu SS and I am ready. Can I order through your link so you get some type of benefit from my order? Thanks and thanks and thanks!

    The 70mm version is a great jet, a perfect all-around performer & it gets good flight times. I own a few foamies, of course I prefer the look of my wood/fiber glass models, but I for one actually like the bare foam over white paint.

    Glad to report Horizon did the right thing and replaced the Viper 90mm. I sent the plane back and I guess they saw the problem. I think it was some of the wood on the esc tray was not punch out completely and was sucked into the fan. I have been a customer of Horizon for many years and have always known them to stand behind there products. They are a great company. I tested the plane on the ground and ran a few batteries through it. Looking forward to the maiden. ✈️✈️✈️

  • @M4rkmcc21

    Could you also tell me why you do your CG checks with the plane upright? I always thought a low winged plane should be upside down on checking CG? Thanks

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 роки тому +3

      Whether right side up or upside down, it doesn’t matter when checking the cg. Typically it’s just easier to check a low wing airplane upside down because it hangs a little easier. But, it’s not a requirement. I switch back and forth depending on the airplane and what’s easier.

    Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, for the great video and answering my other question. In the end I bought the Viper 90. Beautiful model and sturdy landing gear that also works well on low grass. However it has a problem mainly in landing and full flap: the left wing stalls close to the ground. It happened to me twice and I gave up, temporarily. I saw online that using the "Crow" system seems to land much better. I would be grateful if you could give me some advice. Greetings again from Italy.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 місяці тому

      These will definitely drop a wing if they get too slow. Adding crow will definitely help that.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 роки тому +2

      You can get into the forward programming, but unfortunately the bnf receivers are locked. So can’t adjust gains out of the box. The receiver can be unlocked, but I think it requires connecting to a computer to do that.

    @dalezesiger9873 Рік тому

    Hello again Chris. I have been frequently referring to your videos in an effort to get smarter with my RC planes. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction to find the factory as3x gyro settings that come in the various bnf Efite planes? I always update the receivers to "Open-Stock" because I do not like some of the proprietary mixes, SAFE select settings etc. I do like the actual gyro gains that come in most HH planes. Once the receiver is "Open-Stock" I am only guessing at the gain range HH used for the various planes, and I am having a tough time finding the sweet spot on the gains. As you know, these bnf receivers are initially locked, and you cannot see the actual gain settings in Forward Programming. If you happen to know where I could find these numbers, I would be very grateful! Thank you. Dale

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Рік тому

      Instead of going to the fwd programming, if you scroll over to the right from the main screen, I believe that it shows you the gains that are programmed. That’s what I did when I reconfigured the eflite f16 with flaperons and tailerons.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Рік тому

      Otherwise, I’m not aware of a database anywhere that shows the gain values at all.

      @dalezesiger9873 Рік тому

      @@Thercgeek Thank you so much for the reply. Like an idiot, I did not check the factory gyro settings before I upgraded the receiver. I don't suppose you have any idea where HH set the AS3X gyro gains? Love your videos! Thank you again.

    My compliments for the amazing video. I felt like buying it. I have a fair amount of experience with airplanes and a lot with helicopters. Thanks and greetings from Italy.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  4 місяці тому

      The landing gear are quite robust in the model actually. I think it’ll handle grass without too much trouble so long as it’s decently mowed and not super thick fescue.

    Well that's timely, I was just looking at this plane. How would you compare it to the Freewing Avanti? Is it different enough to justify having both? I take the Freewing Avanti pretty much every weekend. I have a few 105mm-120mm EDFs, but those don't really make for a low-effort relaxing outing. I wouldn't mind having another "everyday" type EDF.

    My friend, you've been involved in EPO much longer than I have, so I'm surprised you don't know this. Expanded Poly Olefin plastics exude plasticizers over their half lives ( about 10 years). These vaporous solvents will cause polymer enamel AND water soluble white paints to yellow out HORRIBLY at at frightening rates. Use a thinned (oil base) UV filtered polyurethane, or UV stable acrylic polymer art sealant ( test an area that isn't structural or cosmetic for compatible traits), and just mask and coat your EPP. Painted areas? Mask, or cover. You' re better off letting the foam discolor a little unless the extra weight and shorter flights don't matter. Me? I armor these $5.00 foamboard EDFs to the teeth. So, five dollars in materials. ( Motors, ESCs, Rx, servos, etc. salvageable). I digress. Applying two coats of clear polyurethane varnish to foamboard results in over a 325% increase in rigidity at a cost of 14 milligrams per 100 cm squared. Pre-coated foamboard and new practices? (FliteTest!) And who knows what we can come up with!
    Dig what you're doinn'

    Make it into an 8-channel crow setup like I did and you can sustain a flare for landing: ua-cam.com/video/Ly7y2UUB7Rc/v-deo.html
    You can also high alpha with about a 25% crow mix.
    If you're flying stock, it'll most definitely tip stall with flare attempts instead of settling in, and high alpha is basically out of the question.
