    I live here in NM and it’s so beautiful and a lot of fun places to go off roading. This is the right way to explore it.

    Thanks for documenting this route. Cibola, Gila and Mogollon are probably the most mispronounced names in New Mexico. The name, Cibola, (pronounced See-bo-lah), is thought to be the original Zuni Indian name for their pueblos (maybe like the Hawikuh Ruins) or tribal lands. The rock art you saw was most probably Warm Springs Apache broadly known as the Mogollon culture.

      Shoot I forgot about these videos! I’ve documented the gila several times now pretty extensively with much of the history of the surroundings. I went back to chloride recently after they repaired the road, it’s adequate for a passenger car now.

    Yes, always have a Jerry Can when you're going on trips like that. I've had to cut trips short myself because I didn't bring extra fuel.

    I wish I had the ability to do all of that and the friends lol . I was lucky enough to make it to the catwalk parking lot today. I'm from Pennsylvania and come out this way once or twice a year to Chaparral to visit my mom.

      The reason I enjoy making these videos is for others like you who don’t always have the privilege to get out as often as myself. There’s definitely a ton of land out this way but I’m pretty jealous of that east coast terrain!

    Great videa, Unfortunately the Forest Service has closed Chloride to vehicular travel until they fix it. After the Black fire there was some major flooding that totally destroyed the road last year. Forest Service is saying maybe next year. I have several videos on Chloride on my channel, it's one of my favorites.

      Thank you! I think the first video I ever watched on the canyon was from your channel. It was really rough when we went and I’m not surprised it’s totally washed out from the rain and snow melt.

      @@Whitedogoverland we went last year after the fire and flooding to see what was left but we went in from the top. When we reached the bottom in the canyon we decided that it was a bit much for the vehicles with us and knowing that the whole canyon bottom would be just big rocks. Nobody had been through it yet.

    I was researching going here in October looks like it's closed through 2024. Here's specifics from the Gila NF "specifically, the section of NFSR 226 (Chloride Canyon Road) between Monument
    Cabin at coordinates 32’20.573, -107’49.397 and the National Forest Boundary at
    coordinates 32’20.290, -107’41.663.
    PURPOSE
    The purpose of this Order is to protect public health and safety from hazardous
    road conditions stemming from post-fire flooding."

      @Whitedogoverland  Рік тому

      It’s a bummer it’s closed off but I’m not surprised. After the amount of snow the black range got, I’m sure that road is nearly gone. It’s a really fascinating canyon and I believe they plan to open it after next winter. I was talking to a local lady in membres last month when we hit the western half of the gila and she seemed optimistic

    Really good video. I used to be able to run about 85% of Chloride Canyon in 2WD with my built Jeep ZJ, but in May 2022 there was a giant flash flood before the forest fire and now the canyon is a very difficult trip. I ran this trail about 2 weeks before the flash flood. It will be interesting to see if I can run it with my semi-built WJ. Any serious rain above the canyon will cause another flash flood down the canyon and change the difficulty level again.

    • @Whitedogoverland
      @Whitedogoverland  Рік тому

      Thank you! I was told by the locals that the road in has been totally destroyed by flooding. It was difficult but no problem even in my full size.

      @@Whitedogoverland I live in the mountains East of Albuquerque. We found out from the Forest Service that Chloride Canyon will be closed to vehicles this year (2023). We are hoping that they change their mind because it is a real fun canyon.

    • @Whitedogoverland
      @Whitedogoverland  Рік тому

      That’s a huge bummer. I’m not surprised with the road conditions and I’m sure all that snow melt didn’t help. Was hoping one day to complete the whole canyon into the gila so hope they reverse that!
