Been waiting for this vid! The flat 12 is so interesting I wish they did more with it and made it reliable. Would have been really cool to see a hyper car with a flat 12 engine the sound would be insane
This engine was destined to be under powered due to its inherent Harmonic Frequency of its Flat 12 Design. It should have been developed using a Single Large Supercharger fed by Twin Turbos - this Turbo / Supercharged design would have reliably delivered well over 850 bhp and up 1000 bhp if Water/ Alcohol Injection were added.
The harmonic frequency does not make it less powerful, the design of the engine was just bad. Also supercharging/turbocharging was forbidden in this era of F1. All in all just bad engine design.
@@samuelgarrod8327 not nearly as bad as us spec tho, americans complain about engines blowing up at 50,000 miles but here, in the uk atleast, most subarus are at around 100,000 miles and still in good knick
IF, Subby's Flat-12 has Any 'Heritage' to their frickin' dumb-assed flat four, then, the Timing-Belts cog's will WIPE OUT ALL TWELVE CYLINDERS on that cheap $13 PLASTIC TOOTHED GEAR that tensions that timing belt. Hate that CHEAPNESS. Hated that $2200 bill, too, on my Outback. Subby Sucks.
Minor typo friends, turbo chargers were banned in F1 from 1989 and returned during the 2014 season! Thanks to the viewer who corrected me :)

Thanks bro!
Thanks for watching !!
Ferrari won championships with a flat12. Subaru's was just bad.
Testarosa!
I believe when koenigsegg was up and coming they considered using the subi flat 12 in their first car
Brb, gonna go bolt 3 EJs together
lol
Just do 2 EZs you’ll get better torque
2Ez's>3fa's>3ej's
thats so COOL, like really all the details are sooo nice its crazy what they all did
This is a really cool video. I never knew about the Koenigsegg link.
i wish you would have used the audio when you showed each car clip.
still a great video!
This was really interesting, I'd actually never heard of this.
Very interesting. Shame it didnt do better, surely the concept is good.
Flat 12 works on Ferrari 312 during the 70s, and Subaru thinks it can work again on early 90s. Too bad they got it wrong.
It could have worked if it wasn’t designed by an idiot low power large size and heavy

Wanna make one with me bro lmao

great video
FACTS.
Thats Bad Ass !!!!😮
Ferrari put that engine into the Testerosa as well
except it's their own engine
Favorite boxer engine manufacturer?! 😂 That would be Porsche…
Subaru could barely make the EJ25 work after 30 years with the thing. I can't imagine them making a decent F1 engine
F1 engines don’t have to be as reliable as road-going engines.
Tbf it was only the us spec which was unreliable
@@Umar-gw6fyNot true unfortunately, the euro spec was a liability too.

Only because every single EJ25 got modded to hell.
Put it in the brz
Bro wtf no car sound
Poo don quan

Yes, but will it fit in my 23 BRZ??
