Great video clip. As an Atlantic Canadian, for over fifteen years I’ve been perennially pilgrimaging to The Dragon. Aside from the pavement, it’s the people and the “tales” around the fire pit, more that the Tail itself, that draws me back. The one thing I’ve learned? Humility trumps hubris and smooth is better than fast.

I dont think there has been a single overnight I have spent at the Firepit there where The Canadians were not well represented. Great to see so many neighbors there consistently.

Great Video, Never got to see what bikes you were riding. I suppose I could guess it's a Honda Hawk I know nothing more than the name and that it's a Honda street bike. Glad the Harleys and 4 wheelers sight seeing didn't block you too much.
You both did a great job at staying in your own lane, but that does not mean that some one is not going come into your lane and wipe you out.

For those who are unaware. This is a public road used by many to commute back and forth to work. Due to the number of vacationers in the area, there are many who are unaware and just taking it to get over to Tenn from NC and vise versa as you don't have too many other options. Weekends are the worse and the amount of traffic is unbearable at times.

Wow ... An awesome ride ! I rode deals gap #129 in 1992 on a cbr600f. Wasn't nearly as well known as today and very little traffic back then. .... The cost of a mistake is terribly high. And looking back on myself , I see an idiot. ... But God , I had fun !!! 😁👍

@@HawkGirlMistyV hi, mine is also an ‘89 model, with more than 100000 kms, and looking as good as ever.
The road trip is at the planning stage, on my next trip to USA I will be buying a bike to tour around.
I have been over there in a few occasions but always toured by car.
This time I’m planning to arrive in LA, buy something over there and head through the Grand Canyon. Then further east see some of the canyon in Utah, MOAB and then head north from there, through Yellowstone up to Banff in Canada, then back down to California Yosemite and sell the bike.
I’m still waiting to hear from two motorcycles dealers about the insurance and registration papers for a tourist, and of course what sort of bikes do they have available, I have in mind a Honda 500 tween, but you never know.
See you, it was nice to see another NTV doing the rounds. Keep enjoying your riding with your husband and please keep safe.

There is a Hawk Girl Biker, "I'll hit that button & ring that bell"! Not that it has anything to do with biker or here, I'm reminded of just other day, enjoying little sunshine, a Pair of Turkey Vultures flew in circle over my head, I know them because my road in NW Washington is their territory, an right behind the pair of vultures flew a pair of Eagles! An within feet of Eagle flew matched pair of Red Tailed Hawks! As I looked up from my tiny yard (an I mean tiny), see six birds in three pairs an three different breeds, all with big wing spans, looking like flight of airplane patterns! I talked too all six bird, how cool is this but if you think I need too wash my hair I'll go get shampoo!

Always remember the golden rule, experience is a terrible teacher why? She gives you the test first. Roads like this are made to have fun on not die or get crippled, pushing your personal it's not worth it just enjoy the hell out of what you know how to do, to hell with those of the riders, I ride really good and I had a guy come by me on a Ducati he had to be going twice as fast as I and this was not a straight road ,it had curves in it.but not me for me.

The dragon is fun when nobody is on it. On weekends, its usually a dumpster fire. Car clubs, a gazillion Harley guys that don't know how to turn and end up sideways in the oncoming lane, etc...
But when there isn't much traffic, its a fun road, although the roads around it, I think are actually better.

It's a day. I too am about 90+ minutes away in adjacent mountains.
A lighter and nimble bike like a Hawk or other CB makes it more pleasant. The speeds are slow, unless wou want to pay the $250 toll from the TSP and sheriff, so race bikes are not going to their edge.
Big cruisers don't get great scenery like they do on the adjacent roads. A midsized classic bike or similar modern upright is about perfect for the road itself.

It's been about 15 yrs. since I rode the Tail of the Dragon. I rode all the way through, went to get something to eat, and rode back. When I got back, I swore I would never ride it again. I rode it on an 1984 H.D. Lowrider. It was beautiful scenery, but if you looked at it, you stood a good chance of becoming part of it. I came upon 3 wrecks and witnessed 2 more. I also got the crap scared out of me twice. Both times, I was going about 20 mph around a blind curve and had a crotchrocket come up behind me doing 60 mph or better. I had been riding for over 40 yrs. then and I had never in my life come across so many inconsiderate and down right hazardous riders. From this video, it looks as though things have changed considerably. But I'm still not going back. The Cherohala Skyway, however, is fantastic.

Well, having just watched a girl 'school' a Nissan GTR at speeds would make me piss myself on The Tail'...
...nice video, but def' not the ONLY one I'll ever need to see. There's a piece of my '96 Sunfire GT on one of those trees. Came around the "Ballsack" (what I call it, right after The Chicanes) into some jackass pulling a boat half in my lane. Hit the gravel. Car's only 1 and an 1/8th off the ground at the tranny pan. Lost part of the splitter.
Back in '85, I was ripping up just past the Dalton S's about two feet off the paint, when a VF600 went UNDER ME and blazed off. License plate was "I FLY" and, yeah, it was a girl. Real cutie, too.
I was on my VF1000R(R) Vance and Hines screamer at the time.
Again, nice video. Thanks for showing us the sights!

The dragon? I think in our time we had better streets, they followed as well a river and were banned for the last 40 Years for motorbikes. The street was recently flooded and villages are been swept away.
That was a course from hell 40 miles long under railway bridges following the river. At this time we were some kind of hooligans. And used to race these roads with an RD350 until the footrest scratched and sparked on the ground. I have seen many wheelies these days, but no movie ever with this kind of driving style. The bike becomes uncontrollable, You brake You fly out of the curve and You divinely kill every big bike, because You are always on full throttle.
I don't say this was right, but we really could drive and be to Young risk more than 99 lives, more than a cat, running on credit. The streets were closed of the death rate. I survived this time and still remember the fun, better than border jumping.😁😁🤩🤩🤩

I agree,. The only "Dragon" video you need to watch.....to learn how NOT to ride it. Passing others without giving them opportunity to pull over. That's the kind of ignorance that gives that road its reputation.

I live10 minutes away in Maryville.
After ???? 50 times at least you get to know every inch of the turns.. Always have to respect it though. More than once I’ve had one of those uh oh !! Turns that scare the heck out of me.

looking at the end of this video i cant help but wonder if a harley rider can ride the dragon by themselves. they seem to always form a parade having to leave together....lol

Great video! I have a 1989 CB-1 and a 1991 Hawk in my garage. Such a treat to see these sweet bikes ridden so well.

The Dragon can be fun, but too crowded. So many better roads in the surrounding area that in my opinion are more fun to ride.
