I was in the middle of building these guys when you posted this! Love it. The incidental card advantage from Breeches really really surprised me. I won the game off of other people’s stuff!
I know, right! It's the best way to get people's best cards since the deck isn't really running any bombs. But being able to cast anything from opponents is amazing.
Lightning rig crew and Pirate Ship go infinite with Malcolm and Pemmin's Aura/ Freed from the Real! I'm planning on making a similar deck with Malcolm and Vial smasher for that sweet black, or with dragon for combo pirates Though I have a soft spot for a fun Malcolm and Breeches deck that focuses purely on the tribal synergy.
Thanks! Glad you like it! I can definitely see the similarity since I want to try and make as many pirates unblockable as possible to maximize those saboteur effects.
I was drafting Commander Legends and got Breeches in my first pack. So I started hoping to get a blue partner commander, and on the next pick, P1P2, I get PASSED a Malcolm! These two together are quite unbelivably good in a draft, especially since it is so easy to get a lot of pirates at common/uncommon. Also they look fun for normal commanders, and I believe they can achieve quite high power level.
Nice! That's great especially considering that in a draft environment you can play multiples of cards so long as they're in your commander's color identity. These two are indeed incredibly strong as a pirate tribal commander. I actually prefer them over Admiral Beckett Brass even though she gives us access to black. That's how good they are.
@@TheCommanderTavern agreed, these are perhaps better than Admiral Beckett Brass when it comes to power level. But Admiral Beckett Brass is awesome to, so not an easy choice if you want to build pirates, and need to choose between these two options...
@@hermodnitter3902 I mean, at least if you build Admiral Beckett Brass you can include both Malcolm and Breeches in the 99; you simply won't always have access to them.
It's nasty in the best of ways :P I made a more "friendly" deck but you can definitely upgrade this to be exceptionally more brutal. Just check out all the other suggestions in the comments. Adding Glint-Horn Buccaneer, Lightning Rig Crew, and Storm the Vault can do so much for this deck.
Brandon Creek are you talking about the Glint Horn Buccaneer combo? It kills any opponent with life total lower than the number of cards left in your deck. Unless your opponents have gained a bunch of life it doesn't need to go infinite.
With Commander legends, you don't have to run "Bad Pirates". They added so many pirates in CL that we have enough awesome pirates so we can run a 100% only pirate build. I just made a Beckett Brass deck, and it doesnt run arcane adaptation and the only non-pirate I have is Changeling Outcast. I think you are really underestimating how many legitimately good pirates we have now.
Keep in mind that Admiral Beckett Brass can also run black pirates so you have way more to choose from. What I mean by bad pirates is just chocking a deck full of creatures just for that creature type. I don't believe that a tribal deck needs to be 100% of that creature type for it to be tribal. So adding pirates just for the sake of adding pirates doesn't seem good to me, and thus it's "bad". Arcane Adaptation and Xenograft do provide a solid advantage if you're running a bit more nonpirates in a deck. The deck is still tribal, though.
@@TheCommanderTavern That's fair, I suppose. Having access to black really does enable a 100% pirate deck but I can see how that could be more difficult in Izzet (Though even then I would still argue that there are enough decent ones to choose from.) I'm just glad pirates are a legitimately powerful tribe now. I'm having a blast with Brass!
@@brandoncreek5709 Oh, for sure. It's great to have more tribal decks that are good besides the usual elves, goblins, zombies, etc. I'm happy Yuriko gave us ninja tribal and Sethron gave us minotaur tribal. Any time we get support for nonclassic tribes it's great.
That'd be interesting to see. It's definitely possible since you can forgo all of the expensive lands and mana rocks as well as Dockside Extortionist and Hullbreacher. All of the other cards are super cheap. You could add Glint-Horn Buccaneer, Lightning-Rig Crew, and Storm the Vaults while making budget cuts.

instaBlaster.
Great build seems like a lot of fun
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
you should add lightning rig crew, it can tap for 3 mana and draw three cards and untap with every pirate that enters
That's definitely an amazing inclusion! Thanks for the suggestion!

That combo's amazing!
Love the list! Feels similar to my Tetsuko Umezawa build, might have to make this one as well.
Thanks! Glad you like it!

What do you think about Storm the Vault for this deck? Flipping it into Tolarian Academy should be a piece of cake!
Having Vault of Catlacan on the battlefield with this deck is super degenerate indeed. Amazing suggestions, as always!
Glint-Horn Buccaneer as another inclusion, it can win the game in one attack with Malcolm on board? Or is that a bit too nasty?

Well, it can kill one or two people, but it isn't infinite. You will deck out before you kill everyone, unless everyone is already very low.
@@brandoncreek5709 Sure, but there are ways to circumvent that at least. The eldrazi titans to name a few.

I can post a goldfish link. But I don’t want to hijack your deck.
