Ridley scott was on crack when he was doing that movie 😅
I don’t think Ridley ever stopped doing drugs.
He was on something strong for this entire horrific movie. I'm fine with making changes to a historically based film for entertainment purposes but what an absolute disaster this film was.
Smh he made a movie about Napoleon, into a British love propaganda movie
nah he did it for 2 reasons. Give his Scott Free production people some employment, and a tax write off for himself when it flopped. Win/Win.
@@jayd8091 Ridley's always been a disaster with historical films. He should have stuck to sci-fi.
Lmao the british still hate Napoleon to this day 😂

British still salty over Napoleon it seems. While napoleon did famously bungle his coup amd his brother saved the day, there is no way napoleon would have been so comically cowardly.
Not at all. It was just a "small" problem that eventually got dealt with by one of our greatest. I ask for a "tiny" favour and please stop having such a "short" fuse with all of this.

I'm sorry to say although the movie was a shitshow this scene is actually somewhat accurate. The entire parliament business was a real shitshow with nobody really knowing what was going on and Napoleon's brother being the MVP.
Reasonably accurate, except for the fact that the 30 year old Napoleon is being played by an actor who looks like he's in his mid-fifties.
@@coogrfanand doesn't sounds more American than anything lol...
Yep-Napoleon had one of his most clueless moments in the coup and this scene was true to that-at least for a movie
@@mattatron3152 He didnt run away he had his men with him
No-but he did have a temporary breakdown and was only saved by his brother and the troops (as the movie portrayed)@@rupertbe
The only problem with this movie is the writing and how they maked napoleon look like a cowar
That's the main problem, but far from the only one. Casting an actor who is pushing fifty to play young Napoleon (to say nothing of casting someone 15 years younger to play Josephine) is equally problematic.
@@coogrfan that's right and i kinda feel bad for joaquin even if the writing sucks he gave his best acting
@@mariuscozma4271 Phoenix is a tremendous actor, he's just too old to play the young General Bonaparte. I watched a really interesting video the other day that discusses how this movie could have be fixed. Was it really hard for ridley Scott to hire an actual historian? I was so excited for this movie, and then I got a steaming pile of 🐩💩
Same I’m upset that they chose to focus so much on his wife rather than just him or him and his family (who are all far more interesting than Josephine is)
Really? You were excited? You watched him claim that Rome turned republic after Emperor Commodus' death, that Balian of Ibelin was a bastard blacksmith in France with a British accent, that Robin Hood fought a medieval D-Day, and you thought that he'd treat Napoleon with decency??
@@JimmySteller he didn’t claim Rome turned republic after commodus died. And I know the other 2 aren’t true but I would have thought he would give us something good with Napoleon

Bruh, as an actual historian I can tell you three things: This is really close to what happened, is a movie, and stfu
Promises are what made this country and that world worried and confused in this time line, poor Napoleon
Napoleon was not that timid, petty, and vindictive. This makes it look like a school playground fight instead of a master of war. Sad. I expected better from Ridley Scott.
This event was an absolute shitshow, so Napoleon being dazed, confused and all over the place checks out here. The ministers, the soldiers, not even Napoleon himself really knew what was happening.
Oh hold up everyone, this bloke claims to have known the man himself.
Should've let Mel Gibson make this movie.
This is actually how it went though lol. He entered, they all started acting like a bunch of schoolgirls in a fight, he left, and came back with his army. Honestly I think making this comical wasn't a bad decision on Ridley's part because history often is really funny.

As a Frenchman this movie is as shame about historic accuracy. Fuck this English narative ! Vive l'Empereur et vive la FRANCE !
As a side note this isn't an "English narrative" we hate this movie every bit as much as you do.
@@Delogros You are right I should have said this "anglo-saxon narrative" ! I was a little bit angry because it is not the first time that an "anglo-saxon movie" depict wrongly historical facts related to FRANCE...like the movie Dunkirk for example.

Where is Murat?
"Citizens, you have been dissolved!" The "Dandy King" played an all-important role as Napoleon's Cavalry commander of the Coup of 18 Brumaire.
It would be proper cool to have the power just to say "get in there" and like 1000 soldiers are ready to move in on your orders
I think Ridley used Oversimplified as the source for his movie 😅
As insurrections go, this was a real one, but boy did it almost end up as comic opera. Little Brother Lucien, who later did not stick with the dynastic and imperial program, really stepped up this day and changed the course of history in his brother's interest. Napoleon almost flubbed it until Lucien bought him those crucial moments and pulled that gesture to win over the wavering troops.
Send for Sharpe and Harper
The best part of the movie
It seemed to me it was so highly edited. There must be a longer version like a Zack Snyder Justice League Version.
There actually is an extended 4hours version yet to be released. Let's hope it's any better
the people in this comment section would complain about the lack of russian accents in death of stalin and chernobyl
Don't overly care about the accent in the same way I wouldn't particularly care if American/English Characters in French movies spoke exclusivly French, it's a relativly minor issue for most people.
Got I bang on
The government was so treacherous they only spoke in English, wow!
Where is Murat. He was the one who lwad the troops
That was my exact thought during the whole movie, where is one of Napoleons most important men? Same with fouche and many others

Great movie
This is exactly how I would expect a Brit to attempt to portray Napoleon.
This movie has a lot of issues. But gods damned that was hilarious.
This movie had a lot of promise, I think if they had fixed some of the writing and made it longer (I mean, Dune was 3 1/2 hours long, idk why Napoleon couldn't have been) they could have fit SOOO much more in and made it a lot better.
Para qué? Está bien así. Más líquido hace que pierda el sabor.
I find if you watch this movie as if it were an over exaggerated comedy and not a historical drama, it’s a pretty funny film
It's weird that this clusterf$ck is the most accurate part of this movie.
This is more or less how it went down - Napoleon was of course much more verbose (quote: "The Constitution! You yourselves have destroyed it. You violated it on 18 Fructidor; you violated it on 22 Floreal; you violated it on 30 Prairial. It no longer has the respect of anyone!") but this movie seems to delight in treating history's scariest dictator as though he were some sort of cowardly lion.
Napoleon was scary precisely because he was brilliant. A man that full of himself, with that much *reason* to be full of himself... it took all the world's powers united against him to (barely) bring that ego down. I want that movie. I want terrifying, unstoppable, autocrat Napoleon.
The Americans were horrified by the French, what they did in their revolution was unthinkable. It was bad enough it drove us back to being friends with the British, and the British to accept.
Was the war of 1812 around that time. Not to mention Nepoleon put a day of mourning when Goerge Washington died.
I don't blame them

I am disappointed when i saw the movie...
To everyone saying this movie sucks because it’s historically inaccurate: take a look at any historical film directed by Ridley Scott (and there are quite a few), and tell me how many of them are accurate in the slightest. This isn’t a one-off fluke, Ridley’s intentionally conflating events to make a more entertaining film.
But it isn't more entertaining though... The batle of Austerlitz would have been amazing if shown properly and way more cinematic, it is also non sensical "Make them think they have the high ground" well we have eyes, the Austrians are quite clearly in the low ground and the idea that and army fighting in their own country doesn't have one guy in it who knows they are on a lake is jsut beyond stupid, and yes stupid things do break immersion and entertainment...
Now if you know nothing about military tactics and history it might be fine but most people know what a bloody hill/ridge looks like.
So what's your point?
That we shouldn't hate on this film's horrible disrespect, just because Scott's _always_ disrespectful of history?
Well I’m glad I didn’t spend a single cent or much of my time on this movie.
You would think the Brits would have moved on by now…
I'm a Brit and I respect Napoleon as one of the great men of history, he deserved more respect than this. This was a Hollywood production so blame the yanks. The script was written by an American, David Scarpa.
I know blaming us makes you feel better and all, but we hate this film as well, Character assasination is always bad even if it is an "old enemy"... Besides if the "Brits" where trying to look cool we would have made Napoleon intimidating and so defeating him more impressive while Napoleon in the movie is a mouse of a man.
