Your guna have to look at little further then albo and Bowen for blame. We started buying cheap junk from China in the 80s and 90s. There have been multiple liberal and labour governments that have not fixed the issues. Did you forget Tony Abbott was solely responsible for the demise of Holden? Holden: was the biggest and ONLY car manufacturer in Australia! Leitho is not highlighting this in his podcasts enough and is a liberal supporter. Be very careful what you take from his advice.
Because we're paying for massive increased maintenance costs on ancient infrastructure from the coal Era. Stations that are old af being kept online by high prices maintenance. You just resort to old world propaganda propped up by a dying sectors investors who are upset because to keep their infra alive it requires gov intervention and they can't get it.

With all the gas reserves in Australia the government can’t formulate a policy for self manufacturing. Totally incompetent ..reset Australian politics ☢️
This just makes my blood boil listening to this. The sheer incompetence of this current government ,with energy policy .We are an imbaresment to the world. 😡
Agree. Commonsense and putting Australians first is their job. Get rid of woke, WHO, and the Paris emissions agreement. Turn back the clock, let’s get back to the Australian dream we were all better off.
Australia's problems didn't just spring up from nowhere within the 2 years of Labor/Albanese forming government; this level of destruction required collusion beetween both major parties and years in the making.
As an Australian citizen, I don't identify that energy policy has anything to do with what I voted for. As a matter of fact, nobody who voted can prove the names, addresses, and photos of who voted for those who wrote such corrupt policies in the first place because as far as the judiciary and executive branches of government are concerned, it's who counts the votes that count. And the central bank will gladly print free money for them to grow in size.
looking at the capital costs of coal plants built ~2000 it looks like it was about $1.5bn a GW, so about $3bn today. Most remaining coal power plants are due to close over the next 15 years and the NEM is 25GW so if we were to continue "business as usual" with a 100% coal grid that would be a capital cost of $75Bn plus the greatly increased ongoing costs compared to Solar Wind Batteries. The Capital cost of $150Bn to $200Bn for the renewable rollout does not seem anywhere near as bad in this light. In the short term taking Australia's domestic gas usage off of the international market by ensuring local supply at a fair price first is definitely the best path forward.
The transition is largely complete in South Australia. My power bill is more or less the same as I paid in QLD. It would be fair cheaper if the assets were not foreign owned.
not any more the costs in Qld now are 30.2 per kwh and in SA they are 45.5 per kwh thanks to renewables only and batteries but according to Bowen renewables are cheaper?????
Hi Leith, I've just gone and checked my old electricity bills. I'm in Victoria and have always used AGL. In January 2020 I was paying $0.3135/kwh and $1.1869/ day Supply Charge. In January 2025 I am paying $0.25069/kwh and $0.85426/ Supply Charge. That is a reduction of 20% and 28% respectively. Now what was all that about electricity prices going through the roof????
@@ponzitizen Shop around, I think there is a website sponsored by the Vic Govt where you can to direct comparisons. And do the same for your insurances, I saved a heap shopping around and also review your excesses. And you'll pay a lot less if you up your excess from $750 to $2000 or even $5000.
@CitizenShane54-u2u Cheers, I will look into AGL as it seems loyalty is working out for you and not getting charged "lazy" tax, which is a separate issue and practice that should not be allowed in this country... The difference in the same state is ridiculous... Thanks for your post...

I just walked out of Steve georganas office talking about this very point. Interestingly enough the girl behind the glass was lovely enough but clueless on gas and seemingly anything else. Gon make some noise to your local politicians people!!
As for gas Leith, you know full well that Howard gave it all away to China, a 25 year contract with no return to Australia. And when the ALP started to tax Petroleum exports at a higher rate, the Abbott Government repealed the legislation. As for the cost increases in gas being caused by the construction of LNG import terminals, you are also well aware the Turnbull Government did not invoke the the gas reservation policy but were happy to see these three LNP import terminals constructed, at great expense to local consumers. I think you owe Albo and Bowen an apology.
Leith is a corporate & coalition shill. Of course he knows this stuff but he ignores it for fear mongering anti labor rhetoric. Its that or he's actually just a bad economist and doesn't actually know whats going on or have any understanding of history & how the economics we experience today is largely a result of coalition being in power for the majority of the last 3 decades.
The truth is coming out so we get a law to scare us into not talking about it. Do you really need someone else to join the dots for you? And you're still planning on voting for Labour, Liberal, Greens or Nationals? WHY?
Leith, I would love to hear your thoughts/ reply to Meg O'Neill from Woodside's recent comments about approving more LNG projects in Victoria/ productivity.

Obviously this is highly ill egal in Australia now, and could get you in prissonned, so please don't do this.
The other problem from the Bowen Bungle is the vast diversion of investment from productive opportunities to this dead weight that produces nothing. Well, it produces what we don't need and that reduces the overall value of our economy. Its a negative investment to increase poverty.
The power bills will rise 20-30% compared to what? The reality is the country is getting bigger and we need additional generation capacity - is gas actually that much cheaper compared to renewables + batteries?
Cost of gas is expensive for the public we got rid of our gas fire so this winter we will just have to put more clothes on this winter can afford the gas quality of life in Aust is going down hill ,shevron built gas plants up north we should have affordable gas in Aust
And battery’s get demonised, constant examples of ev fires despite that being on of the harshest possible operating conditions for a battery pack like that with 1000’s of connections within the pack and less so example’s of batteries causing house fires that can be and are often caused by batteries in consumer goods being mishandled and not charged correctly, solar and batteries mean considerably less dependence on the grid and that is real the crux of the issue
