      Err. The Czech Republic exports nuclear power and buys it back from the EU for many multiples of what they sell it for.
      Long term contracts specifically get signed with the expectation of a guaranteed market in exchange for a long term discount. That's how markets work.
      NSW and VIC could mine its own gas, if they'd stop protesting for 2 minutes.

    In VIC, my average monthly gas and electricity bill was $300. In the USA (Texas), my monthly energy bill is $90.
    But beyond usage, the price per kWh I pay now for electricity is 1/3 what it was in VIC.
    What is criminal is that Australia's cost of living crisis is entirely manufactured from extremely poor government policy.

    If only Australia had followed Norway's example. Successive Norwegian Governments have used their resources bulit-up trillions in sovereign wealth funds. Meanwhile, Australian Governments, federal, state and local have built-up trillions in debt.

    Great work as usual the corrupt Labor, Liberal & Unions are complicit in this because our economic overlords are US capital and (unelected ) superannuation (board members) who own 45% of the ASX 100 and 38% respectively. These are the economic overlords that both major parties and Unions are complicit working with and are major shareholders often director seats due their large stakes .
    Union super managing a third of super assets under management and through it owns approximately 12-13% of ASX 100 rent seeking companies

    Literally nothing would help the economy more than cheap gas. It would be such a simple reform to make. We just need it at the same price that we sell it to China. I don't think that's asking too much.

    US does the same they have long term gas contracts with Australia negotiate during record lows. They buy it on the cheap and resale it globally.

    Also most of the l.p.g. from Queensland goes to Japan i believe. To the best of my knowledge it is free and is tax free. As in totally free. Tens of billions of dollars of l.p.g. because politicians are not very bright.

    It is a bit disingenuous to say that China's emission's are through the roof. That's because we have chosen too outsource all of our manufacturing to China. If we manufactured what they make for us then our emissions would be a lot higher, that's a shell game slight of hand way of looking at the situation to greenwash that we are better.

      I feel like Leith's just trying to point out the government's hypocrisy and that we should instead be fixing our own energy grids to make Australia more utilized in the global economy. Instead of just, as you say, outsourcing all of our manufacturing to make it seem like we're not large carbon emitters; it's detrimental to us macro-economically.
