    In Berlin we have a tradition/Kultur of leaving unwanted things on the sidewalk or beside the front door "zu verschenken", to take. At worst, it's literal garbage that that for whatever reason wasn't taken to the bin. At best, it's real useful stuff. 3 of the chairs I have in my flat came off the street. I like to have the skills to repair electronics because my stereo also came zu verschenken because a switch had stopped working. All that needed was some cleaning of the contacts and now a €95 stereo is sitting on my shelf! As things are getting smaller and made from increasing numbers of black blobbed chips, it's getting harder. Those tight, tiny ribbon cables are frustrating! Having these skills are useful, though. There's still a lot of joy in older products and they can be had for toy prices now.

      @@alepepperoni2563 yeah, I had to "curb alert" all my stuff before moving here. Zu verschenken can be anything from leather couches (too heavy to take by myself) to literal rags. Even in Chicago, we had nothing like this. It was all the usual CL stuff or dumpster diving.

    fans generally do that whole stop functioning and start thing when the bearing are going out a good way to test is if you assist the fan in turning and it starts spinning then its the bearing in it going bad. So I guarantee you the fan would have stopped again if that were the case.

    Same thing happened to me about 5 years ago. Wii U randomly turned off, same blinking light turned on, it was hot, and that exact fan stopped working. All I did was spin it manually with a screwdriver while the console was on (I know, bad idea) but a few seconds later it started spinning on its own. Since then, I haven't had any issues even when powered on for extended periods of time.

    I've always wanted to get into Video Game console/games repair and restoration but there's so many uncertainties and scary about it.
    Do I really wanna invest the money into something I don't have much experience about?
    I have absolutely *no* experience in selling things so how would I know if I'm selling something for a right price?
    How would I know if my work is exceptional enough to warrant a price that I give it.
    Box restorations *are* possible but very scary and one mess up could ruin the entire thing.
    So how would I be able to feel confident in taking on... Say... An expensive boxed game like... I dunno a LTTP.
    I can do basic stuff like swap out bad components but soldering is completely beyond my current abilities.
    Just some thought dumping.

    sounds almost exactly what happened to my original wii, the fan went out on it. pretty much did the exact same thing, it'd be fine for a few minutes then the power would just shut off. and the area near the fan was super hot! so calling nintendo and explaining what happened, that was the diagnosis as well and they recommended I send it in. sure enough a few weeks later I got it back good as new! worst of all this was right around the time brawl was gonna launch for the system! so I deifnitely had to send it in ASAP to get it back and ready for brawl's launch!

    I wonder if you could swap the fan with a quieter one (Noctua comes to mind), since it looks like a standard size PC/server fan size.
    EDIT: using the photo on the link, I found the part number (it's a nidec 40*40*20 mm chassis fan), and I think that a standard PC fan could fit here like a Noctua A4x10 (although that's half the thickness of the official one)

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 2 роки тому

      You could swap it. The only thing to beware of is that the connector won't be the same (I'm assuming here, but that's a frequent issue) and the layout of the wires won't be the same. So you'd have to find out which wires on the old fan are power, ground, tach, pwm) and match that up with the new fan.
      I have a big box of various dell server and PC fans and they all have to be rewired before I put them in a PC, Dell (like other manufacturers) purposely change the orientation of the wires around to stop the average user from buying an off the shelf fan... But if you can splice or repin the wires in the right order, it will work.

    I did the same recently as I was at a pawn shop. All that it had for a problem was that the prophile on it was passworded. The password is just a 4 digit number so a few hours of putting numbers in I had a working Wii U.
