When faced with what to ask I said "If they remake The Running Man will you be in it?". Dweezil smiled and said no. I had to ask because for me, absurdity is the only reality. (ps. they are remaking The Running Man in Scotland right now. )
Oh Dweezil ! That's wonderful ! It would also be wonderful if he could recreate the specific ELECTRONIC within let's say some gutted guitar (SG, LP,...) and fully document it for you. I know for sure that your father's guitar tone, except for his very unusual "touch", is a very peculiar combination of the electronics within his guitar(s) (onboard EQ, in-phase out-of-phase wiring, etc...) and the rig he would plug his guitar into ... like these "crystal clean" out-of-phase percussive and "jumpy" type tones blooming into some most outrageous gainy tones. You need to have someone deal with the HISTORY of the electronics on you daddy's guitar, because it was so ingenious and so advanced, some hard core fan who would work together with people like Mid-Get, not only maybe recreating one original instrument out of a modern platform (recently manufactured guitar from Gibson) for you to play, but also document that musical technology adventure. I'm forever grateful to my older brother for turning me on to Zappa back in the mid 70s. It was OverNite Sensation. I'm almost 67 now, and still have all my Zappa vinyl records...not to mention all my CD's. Zappa fans remember and honor Frank Zappa and his gifts to the world 🌎

This is SO cool!! What I love most about this is that it's an amendment to Frank's oeuvre that comes to life through the oldest form of music tuition; word of mouth. Of course, we know Frank generally preferred not to have his work "interpreted" unsupervised. But that's why I think this is so cool. Our collective love for Frank is so tremendous, it's has forced our hand, so to speak. It's a very earnest and touching way of keeping the man's creative spirit aflame. Dweezil, you are the fire carrier!
I empathize with the loss of your father. I lost my dad to dementia 8 years ago. He was the only father of all of my friends who was present. All of their fathers ignored us. My Dad created a pitching mound in our backyard.Played basketball with me everyday. Threw the football to me up hill as I ran patterns. Hiked with me in the hills. Took me on countless road trips to see Redwoods and Giant Sequoias. He didn't play a guitar. He was SFPD and a driving instructor. A truly great father!
yep. Bitter sweet for me. Zappa died '93 and I cried at work when I heard the news. Love his music so much. Exactly 17 years later my daughter was born on 4th December. Tears of joy that day. Her name is Zara and her second name is Moon but she prefers to be called Zara-Moon. We all miss Frank. Such a multi talented man.

Wait a second. Frank kept an enormous library of music in his basement vault. There have to be many "lost songs" among the tapes. Also, this reminds me of playing with a buddy of mine. He can't really play well but teaches me what he's doing and then I play along while he solos and really fucks things up.
I would guess there's a lot of music that only exists in paper form, especially from Frank's early years when he had neither the technology nor the budget to make a recording of it.
I had similar thoughts about some lost song now discovered. Frank had miles of tape in his vault. It will take years to go through it and pull some little of those gems no one has ever heard before...writing as I listen,,, yep that little guitar line/hook does sound like a thing Frank would play. Hey Dweezil, I love you, man! I've been a fan of your dad's music since the early 70's . I was the weird kid in school who listened to avant garde classical music, like Bartok and Morton Subotonick I wrote a paper in college on the importance of Frank's music, and how he was extending classical techniques. Here it is 50 years later and I'm still a fan. I saw you about five years ago at the Regent Theater in Arlington, MA for a film show. I'm just glad that you are still working and promoting Frank's music. He was way ahead of his time, and there's a lot more going on in his music than most people realize.

I saw that same tour in Montreal, had the poster hanging in my room for a long while, til I left in Dec. of 21. I had to leave everything in the apt cause I had a busted hip and had to kill 9 days in a hotel room before catching a train home to recuperate, and I just ended up staying. BUT, that tour was amazing, that was my 2nd time seeing them, what an amazing band.

I absolutely LOVE this!!! I did not know about Arthur “Mid*Get” and his relation to your dad’s guitars, but this is may be the most awesome thing since Just Another Band From LA. I love that this is all from his memory of what Frank showed him and his buddies 50+ years ago. I can’t wait to hear the finished piece. I unfortunately am not living in a major Canadian metropolis like Montreal (where I’ve seen you play twice now), but in the smaller city of Moncton, New Brunswick, about 12 hrs east of Montreal. So I probably won’t get a chance to see you but I’ll be looking online for video of the song. I’m sure you’ll do it more than justice, it’s gonna be super cool, I can tell just by the little parts Midget showed you. It’s also great because I’m unfamiliar with those 2 albums (The Grand Wazoo and Waka Jawaka), because I’ve never been a huge fan of having a brass section so I’ve always shied away from those records but maybe this’ll be the key to open that door for me, ya never know.

This would be a fantastic 8 part podcast miniseries following the whole backstory up to this video, then the process of Dweezil turning it into a fully composed song and finishing up with the song being performed live. The story has real crossover appeal too I think, it's story music fans in general would enjoy, not only Zappa fans.

I was about 14 years old living just north of Toronto…Dude I worked with at a summer retreat for kids turned me on to Zappa. We would take a canoe out onto the lake, smoke delicious Colombian weed and he would play a cassette machine full volume…cuts off “ Shut Up And Play Yr Guitar, Baby Snakes, and Joes Garage” both volumes…he would point out all the sophisticated technical musicality and regal me with stories about the band and Frank’s irascible nature. He explained to me that the reason some lyrics were incongruous(don’t eat yellow snow …) it was Zappa taking the piss out of his record company, who apparently he hated. I didn’t know exactly what he was doing on the guitar, but it was pretty goddamn cool later I learned it was all legato trills and hammer on slides mixed with blistering flat picking. I’ve never heard you play live but I have attended a couple of musical conferences where you have said some stuff. Total respect. If you ever get north of the border, count on me to be there.

Having listened to Zappa since Weasels Ripped My Flesh came out in 1970 (and worn out countless record player needles trying to emulate his runs), this absolutely sounds like another wonderful Zappa creation. I was lucky enough to see your Dad when he came to Australia, and I also saw you a few times here - as well as in Syracuse about a decade ago. As a kid, I also exposed my 5 younger siblings to Zappa's music. In fact, it was my brother who alerted me when you came to Melbourne. We'd love to see you, as well as my wife, who I've also exposed to your music!

I absolutely LOVE this!!! I did not know about Arthur “Mid*Get” and his relation to your dad’s guitars, but this is may be the most awesome thing since Just Another Band From LA. I love that this is all from his memory of what Frank showed him and his buddies 50+ years ago. I can’t wait to hear the finished piece. I unfortunately am not living in a major Canadian metropolis like Montreal (where I’ve seen you play twice now), but in the smaller city of Moncton, New Brunswick, about 12 hrs east of Montreal. So I probably won’t get a chance to see you but I’ll be looking online for video of the song. I’m sure you’ll do it more than justice, it’s gonna be super cool, I can tell just by the little parts Midget showed you. It’s also great because I’m unfamiliar with those 2 albums (The Grand Wazoo and Waka Jawaka), because I’ve never been a huge fan of having a brass section so I’ve always shied away from those records but maybe this’ll be the key to open that door for me, ya never know.
Your father was the first musican I was obsessed with at the grand old age of five. I didn't quite get the humour yet though :D
I wish we (the public) had more of Frank's drawings. from what I've seen, he had a great style. I'd love to see the house on the turtle.

This would be a fantastic 8 part podcast miniseries following the whole backstory up to this video, then the process of Dweezil turning it into a fully composed song and finishing up with the song being performed live. The story has real crossover appeal too I think, it's story music fans in general would enjoy, not only Zappa fans.
We will be making more video to follow up on the progress of the song.

I was about 14 years old living just north of Toronto…Dude I worked with at a summer retreat for kids turned me on to Zappa. We would take a canoe out onto the lake, smoke delicious Colombian weed and he would play a cassette machine full volume…cuts off “ Shut Up And Play Yr Guitar, Baby Snakes, and Joes Garage” both volumes…he would point out all the sophisticated technical musicality and regal me with stories about the band and Frank’s irascible nature. He explained to me that the reason some lyrics were incongruous(don’t eat yellow snow …) it was Zappa taking the piss out of his record company, who apparently he hated. I didn’t know exactly what he was doing on the guitar, but it was pretty goddamn cool later I learned it was all legato trills and hammer on slides mixed with blistering flat picking. I’ve never heard you play live but I have attended a couple of musical conferences where you have said some stuff. Total respect. If you ever get north of the border, count on me to be there.
