    Boy that “full power” power-on stall got my attention - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Garmin attitude indicator display show that much pitch up! How did it feel in the plane? In the 310 I trained in that type of power-on stall would have been a big no-no, we used half throttle and it still felt like you were pointed straight up. I’m also curious about setting power with prop control only, what system is it allows the pilot to do that, some type of electronic or computer engine control? The steep approach looked awesome! Thanks Rich!

      That was very impressive and Rick solid stable. The ECS system handles the loser based on RPMs so MP and fuel automatic from ECS. Very simple. Steep approach was impressive too - don’t know where you would ever need to do that but clearing an obstacle prior to short field landing would be very easy. Thanks for watching.

      I had the Italian guy say the TO is a STOL, so the pull hard control back prior to TO roll, n in the lift-off, then ease back..with power adjustments via prop (to 2400)..

    Sure is one nice looking plane. That steep approach was really steep and impressive. Single engine operation and handling seems to be fairly simple and easy. Wish they had a diesel/ jet fuel version for the European market since those 100LL pumps is getting both fewer, expensive and hard to find. Thanks for the ride again Rich

      I did a little looking to see how the Traveler stacks up against the Caravan - it seems that although it is not quite as capable in some areas, the operating costs appear vastly lower. That, combined with better safety, a more comfortable interior with better amenities makes me think that this plane could very well steal the Caravan's thunder in at least the commuter sector.

    Great video, the first on the P2012 that pilots would be interested in. The handling qualities seem perfect for a commuter airline with relatively low time pilots and the engines seem much easier to handle than that on the Chieftain. It will be interesting to see what Tecnam comes up with next. Retractable gear would be nice, as would G3000 avionics with touch screen controllers. I'm curious if Tecnam is investigating a diesel option, something like the Centurian 4.0 V8 engine. This would aircraft would be perfect for an earthrounder trip, but avgas is imposible to find in many parts of the world and if you can find it.....it is expensive. One quetion I have is are the throttle leavers left at the full forward position for most of the flight - if power is regulated by the pitch levers. It would be really nice if Tecnam would also put the POH/AFM on their website so prospective pilots/owners could familiarise themselves with the aircraft.

      @@FlyingwithRich It's a mistake a LOT of youtube content creators make. Here's how to set it:
      1. Use a decent pair of headphones or studio monitors (Best to check with headphones, as overly loud parts are usually more obnoxious on headphones).
      2. Set headphone (or monitor) volume, so the typical dialogue volume sounds like you're listening to a conversation with somebody right in front of you, who is speaking clearly.
      3. Without changing headphone (or monitor) volume, set the music volume, so it sounds appropriate/ in context to your dialogue reference.
      (This process assumes that you've already mixed your dialogue for consistent volume level throughout the video, and applied any necessary post production, such as compression/limiting/AGC etc).

    We were just talking about the P2012 last night and this morning!! It all started with the new Cessna Sky Courier. Then the sich w/ Cape Air and the P2012! 8) The Sky Courier is very cool too!! Cape Air is replacing their Cessna 4xx's with the P2012's. We were speculating if they might add some Sky Courier's also. 8) 2- PT6's, very good performance!! I think they were designed for FedEx!? Interesting!! Great ride along, thanks Rich!! 8) --gary

    • @dieselyeti
      @dieselyeti 3 роки тому +1

      I doubt Cape Air would add the new Cessna as it would mean maintaining two types instead of one, which would be more expensive.

    • @gtr1952
      @gtr1952 3 роки тому +1

      I mostly agree. If they did take on any cargo missions, or anything where more capacity was needed, the brand new Sky Courier would be an excellent choice. It's still single pilot certified, has big capacity, built like a tank and PT6's are so common now they are easy to get worked on! Parts are everywhere. It seems a great value! All things to look for when optimizing the bottom line. 8) Peace.. --gary

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  3 роки тому +1

      Skycourier is basically double the money and 19 seats. For operators who can fill the seats or fill it with boxes it will make a lot sense, but likely a different operator than the P2012. I think you will see Fed Ex phase out the Caravans for Skycouriers over time. We’ll see.

      Turbine power would probably add the better part of a $million to the price.
      But depending where the aircraft is flown the difference between the price of jet vs. Avgas needs to be considered.
      As for the fixed gear and no pressurization, this seems like a short haul commuter hauler. On the short legs the speed penalty for the fixed landing gear is not a big deal. And on short hops at low altitude the pressurization isn't necessary. Just a heavy expensive fluff.

    What I would like to know what is the price of one of these 2012’s in Euros, import taxes into the USA must be crazy stupid. I reside in Europe now but I am curious to compare costs. Too bad they don’t have the 2006 with these Lycoming engines.

    I can’t wrap my head around the market for the P2012. Its a nicely appointed plane but for $2.6mm you can buy a very nice Cessna Caravan and fly it for a year before reaching the acquisition price of a P2012. You will fly a littler faster, have better useful load and have PT6A-114 reliability. An A&P told me Cape Air was having issues with the engines.

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  3 роки тому +1

      There is a strong component and appeal for redundancy of twin engine. Caravan will burn more block time fuel but fuel costs will be similar due to cheaper jet fuel. High utilization operations will likely have higher engine maintenance costs due to HSI interval and component cycles. We’ll see though - Caravan very tough competition for sure. Thanks for watching.

    • @blegi1245
      @blegi1245 3 роки тому +2

      For the type of flying cape air does(remember this aircraft is custom designed for cape air) caravan is not an option. Multiple short flights in an hour type of operation cycles out turbine engines way before they reach operating hour limit. Now you have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to overhaul an engine that has half of it's nominal tbo left. Piston engines only count hours. There is no cycle limit. They should have bought a turbine aircraft people have no idea what they are talking about. The engine overhaul costs would eat operators like cape air alive.

    • @DonAv8s
      @DonAv8s 3 роки тому +1

      @@blegi1245 I didn’t suggest Cape Air should be flying Caravans. I said Cape Air may be having problems with the engines. Many operators run short hops with aircrafts with PT6 and other turbine engines. There are 135 operators like VeriJet flying short hops in single engine jets like SF50. The fact remains that it’s $2.6 mm for the Tecnam at 150 TAS doesn’t move the needle for me IMO and you don’t have nearly the National support as a Textron aircraft.

    Looks pretty nice. I personally hate the p2006 after working in them for a few years but this seems pretty good. Better cowlings with the new engines. Interior looks like it would break less after wear. Having it with fixed gear doesn’t mean I have to curse at the tail panels fir the pump and hopefully they moved the relays. I’d just need to see about the brake system and the brake rotors themselves. The brake rotors on a p2006 are barely bigger than a light sport category aircraft and like to bend if over heated and over used as compared to a da40 which has a much bigger break rotor with both aircraft having similar empty weights

      Thanks for the feedback - so important to get the service/reliability right on a working airplane like this!

    Great video Rich and this looks like a seriously nice airplane. I can't help but wonder how this machine compares to the Grand Caravan, in performance and load capacity. Obviously not going to carry as many people in the P2012 vs the GrandVan but I'm thinking about freight? The GrandVan, in my understanding, will carry up to 1200kg with full fuel and then planning happens at 165kts. Cost of purchase and ownership on this will be materially cheaper... Your thoughts?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  3 роки тому +1

      Grand Caravan standard useful load based on standard airplane which is pretty light (no options) has more like a 1800kg useful load. Similar P2012 has a 1360kg useful load. Max seating in both airplanes is 10 but one of the things I was most impressed with in the P2012 was the feel of cabin and seating - it just had a very comfortable, airline feel to it. Obviously, the Caravan will be stiff competition for the P2012 but I see some advantages to it and I think it I’ll do well in the market, but won’t happen over night. Thanks for watching.

    I think they should try the Austro engines that Diamond uses. Complete efficiency, and no avgas issues.

    You probably scared the crap out of people on ground with that steep approach. 😅 That's a beautiful airplane though. There's competition for cessna's new sky courier I think they call it ?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  3 роки тому +2

      Skycourier is a larger airplane and has PT6s. Pretty much double the useful load, 200KTS, and $5.5M - $6M - so in a different class.

    Rich, does the P2012 have spoilers to control speed during the steep approach? This approach would be helpful landing at Toncontin Airport Honduras and Gustaf Airport St Barthélemy Island, not to mention London City Airport. Do you think maintenance of two piston engines would be more or less the cost of one turboprop turbine engine? Great performance on single engine. Does the aircraft have air conditioning?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  3 роки тому +1

      No spoilers. Yes on AC. Great question on engines and I’m not really sure. I can see real advantages to both. A lot of high utilization operators can get on TBO extension programs for PT6s than can push overhaul intervals way out which can really drive costs down. There are other factors that make the pistons a better choice - not subject to expensive component cycles so we’ll see. Thanks for message and watching!

    Great! What I see is yet one more Garmin avionics suite that needs ever constant software updates, especially with every malfunctioning part, that usually eats up my entire day or week and weekend depending on exactly what degree of 'Oh Sh--" we're into with an owner/operator screaming about warranty through the whole process. Cheers!
