Location: The Curoca Hills are located in Namibe Province, just a few kilometers from Angola's Atlantic coast. They lie in the heart of the Namibe Desert, one of the oldest deserts in the world. Access: Reaching the hills can be an adventure, as it involves driving on dirt roads through remote areas. The nearest city is Namibe (formerly Moçâmedes), and the journey can take several hours depending on road conditions. 2. Natural Features Geological Formations: The hills are composed of sandstone and rock formations shaped by wind and rain over millions of years. These formations resemble large natural sculptures and offer a rare visual spectacle, especially with the contrast of the clear skies and the vastness of the desert. Climate: The region has an arid climate, with significant temperature variations between day and night. Due to its proximity to the ocean, some parts of the desert are influenced by coastal fog, which serves as an important source of moisture for the local flora and fauna. 3. Historical and Cultural Significance Local Population: The Namibe Desert and its hills are part of the ancestral territory of indigenous peoples, such as the Himba and the Mucubal, known for their semi-nomadic culture. They survive in harsh conditions, relying on livestock and scarce natural resources. Mysticism: The hills, like many remote areas in Angola, are surrounded by mysticism. Local tales often speak of legends about spirits and entities that inhabit the most inhospitable parts of the desert.
Incredible, such and awesome landscape. A fantastic piece of filming either there was really no one there or some very selective shots. I suspect the former that you really had it to yourself. I hope Shish’s eyes are now OK.
Um delighted you guys are enjoying angola and now the oldest desert in the world. Just the fact you are showing the world angola is an honor
