Exactly! I don't like the fact that people, after all this time, still don't understand Asexuals. The Ineffable Husbands CAN kiss and still count as an ace couple. Being Asexual doesn't mean your Aromantic as well. I happen to be both, and seeing people kiss on screen SOMETIMES makes me uncomfortable... And, personally, I wouldn't want to kiss anyone. But that doesn't that it's the same for everyone. Both "ace" and "aro" are umbrella thermes, meaning they warry between little to none, depening on the person. The Ineffible husbands aren't sexualy attracted to each other, but they are romantically. I know that it's not an easy thing to understand, but just because people don't understand it why can't just... Let go of it or ASK someone who is has a better knowledge in that field?! I don't want to call out anyone, but please, if you don't understand a queer therme ask about or look it up on the internet. And give some respect to Neil Gailman because he's respectful to his decised friend, to his/their fans and to the actors. And we live in a world where people like him are rare, so let's give some love for the things he does.
Also, Neal is one of the *ONLY* writers who _GENUINELY_ loves and *ENCOURAGES* fanfiction!!! Like GODS WE'RE SOOO BLESSED TO HAVE HIM! DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW ABOUT ANNE RICE??? DO WE NOT REMEMBER SUPERNATURAL??? FFS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
most writers keep their mouth shut about it bc it can land thrm in legal hot waters. fanfiction is a major grey zone, but authors have been sued for copyright of their own work by fanfic writers. i have yet to meet a writer than wont privately admit theyve written fanfic - altho when ure a pro writer creative exhaustion is a thing as well 🤷♀️
REMEMBER WHEN SHERLOCK DEDICATED A WHOLE EPISODE TO MOCKING FANS WHO CAME UP WITH FAN THEORIES OF HOW SHERLOCK DIED (A CONSIDERABLY IMPORTANT PLOT POINT) BY ANALYSING AND DEDUCING A TV SHOW ABOUT ANALYSING AND DEDUCING AND JUST GOING “HAHA YEAH THAT DIDNT FUCKING MATTER AT ALL ACTUALLY” AND BEING ALL “LOL FUCK YOU FOR THINKING THESE TWO COULD BE QUEER LMAO SEE HOW CLOSE THEY ARE TO KISSING?? YEAH NAH THEY AINT DOIN THAT MENTALLY ILL SHIT”
People actually say it’s homophobic for queer characters to act like actual human beings and not have everything figured out at first kiss? That’s so weird. Every long term relationship I know has gone through a season 2 episode 6 style gut punch at some point (often in an airport). I really liked how authentic that felt. It’s fantasy, but it’s not a fairy tale.
@@talistheintrovert It makes so much sense for Aziraphale to do this, like anyone who disagrees has not watched the same show I've watched. He has a loyalty to Heaven even after learning how horrible it is, he was practically brainwashed into believing it truly is black in white. His actions make sense and so do Crowley's, so everyone could simply lay off neil gaiman who gave us this wonderful show and ship to begin with.
it's brilliant story telling on his end to be able to create feelings this strong for two fictional characters ! I cant understand how people can be so bloody entitled to think that they have a right to shout at him!?! Grow up
It’s definitely entitlement. They don’t understand the characters. They’re consumed by the ship and once it’s disrupted they get angry. If you watch a show with only the ship in mind before and after watching it you’re not really a fan of the show. You’re just a fan of the pairing.
Something we should all remember: Neil made Beelzebub/Gabriel canon… one of the weirdest, out-there ships in the entire fandom IS CANON!! It’s like making Mycroft/Lestrade canon, why can’t people be ecstatic over that??
@@anitanielsen1061Simply for the vibe tbh. Contrasting aesthetics bonding over a common interest (Sherlock's wellbeing) and discovering they have more in common than they thought. Cultured, wealthy, haughty, dickish politician x rough, working class, genial detective. It's just fun
As much as I love Good Omens (I even backed the Graphic Novel Kickstarter) I find the fandom ridiculous; first in season one it was queerbaiting and now it’s homophobic for Neil daring to add conflict to Aziraphale and Crowley love story. As someone who grew up in the 90’s when the only ‘gay’ character we got on tv where queer-coded villains and a gay character in a very special episode where they got aids and/or died of aids, it makes me irritated when people say Good Omens is homophobic.
Those people are ridiculous. Its not homophobic at all. Its one thing to joke and be all dramatic about it. I'm a Heartstopper fan and one of the character's says "Homophobia", when these characters call their name and it interrupts them and their GF kissing. Saying "homophobia" like that in a joking way is fine and pretty dramatic and funny. But to actually believe the show is homophobic and make those kind of accusations towards Neil is stupid.
I love how Good Omens manages representation very gracefully, but it worries me how the fandom kept asking Neil if there would be representation of each sexuality, each disability, each race, and even went to ask if there were specific triggering scenes. Then they get aggressive over the choices made. The show handles diversity with naturality, but there is only so much you can do with one show. I honestly fear for shows with fandoms like that, it happened to Steven Universe. Since it was a show which started off pretty strong and had great diversity, people clung to it a bit too hard and scared off a bigger but less intense part of the fandom. What angers me about this is that fandoms are extremely harsh on media creators who ARE making an effort to be a good example. It's like mistreating the few people who care about you and make an effort.
This has been making me livid too, tbh. Even Neil himself was like "Sorry you guys had unexpected emotions" but like...really? He's giving us EXACTLY what we wanted, with a cliffhanger to transition to the next season (when it does come out, we need it greenlit Amazon) to boot. The media illiteracy in this fandom is just astounding sometimes! The breakup is a NATURAL PART of any three-act love story, which Neil has SPECIFIED THAT IT IS. Someone describes it as The Empire Strikes Back part of Good Omens, and I think that's a really good way to look at it. It just. ARGHHH. Learn to process heavy emotions when it comes to fiction WITHOUT lashing out at the creator. The fact that Neil has the power to make us feel that profoundly about fictional characters is, in itself, so completely wonderful. Plus, the people claiming he's queerbaiting are so annoying. He's been writing queer characters and being a great ally his entire career.
@@talistheintrovert !!! (DOES IT LOUDER) I wrote a fix-it fic on AO3 that I intended to be a little DIY season 3 idea, as my biggest takeaway was "Hey, Crowley has been doing all the chasing, all the rescuing, and Aziraphale isn't meeting him where he's at." So I wrote a fic where Aziraphale redeems himself in that regard. It's been doing pretty well, but something that's been on my mind has been one of the first comments I got, where the commenter thanked me for the free therapy but also said "If I see Neil, it's on sight." Like......what???? Neil said everything is going to be okay, all we have to do is help get it greenlit and we can have our happy ending. So WHY are we dogpiling?????
Are people really harassing him? I joke a lot about wanting him to do the apology dance to us but I think that this ending is magnificent and Gailman an incredible author. It hurts because he did an awesome work, so I don't blame him for anything
Yes and there's also the inverse happening, which is people have sent jokey posts to Neil, Neil has clearly understood the joke and responded in turn, and then Tumblr users have gone mental trying to "defend" him and harassing the user. Neil is a 60-something year old man, he's been an author longer than many of us have been alive, he doesn't need us to protect him from criticism. He certainly doesn't want us to harass anyone in his name, ffs.
@@mothturtle7897no seriously it’s so upsetting plus idk why people even feel the need to white knight him so hard, he’s a big kid and he can defend himself
The fandom doesn't want to admit that episode 6's ending was the most powerful and painfully realistic way to end the series (for now). It's earth-shattering because it's true. These characters WOULD react in the ways they did. The azi-crowley love story isn't over, but the story could end here and it'd make perfect sense even though it's sad.
It's entirely in character. Aziraphale is the idealist who truly believes he can still effect a change for the _better_ (and whose journey will likely sadly involve the realization that some corrupt organizations can't be reformed but tearing them down entirely would also result in chaos, which is entirely realistic). Crowley is the _former_ idealist who became a rebel and then a cynic... who ironically the now the one who wants to _preserve_ the Status Quo of Heaven vs Hell, or at least the cozy little Status Quo of his and Azi's relationship on Earth. It's an interesting reversal.
im literally so glad ep6 ended the way it did. it makes their relationship way more realistic and also really shows their individual character flaws and insecurities etc and that it doesnt always just work out. especially not outside of fiction. im really really excited to see them work through their trauma and ACTUALLY talk in season 3.
I had such a bad feeling that this season was going to end with a cliff hanger. But you are 100% right. This was all 100% in character for both of them. So my heart is broken, but I'm not made.
I had not even considered that anyone would think the kiss was acephobic. I'm ace and I watched season 2 with my ace friend. And we fucking loved it. And we loved the ending. We were very upset by it, but in a good way. Because it made us feel so much. Which it was intended to do. (We are also bothe very much enjoyers of angst, so that might have influenced that). And it was so clear that this is not supposed to be the end of the story.
Ace people can fall in love and hold hands too, we're just immune to sex obsession and mindless lust. We're basically that spell from The Witcher S1 but on a permanent basis
I agree with everything you said. Coming from a bisexual who is honestly questioning if I am a lesbian with comp het. or I'm somewhere on the asexuality spectrum after all.
@@mariannebrandon8891 Oh, I know the struggle. I wish you good luck with figuring out which labels fit you. (And remember that you don't have to use labels either, if you don't want to. The word Queer is right there and we all love it very much.)
Are there really people out there that don't get that the end of S2 was classic "heading into the final act reversal of fortunes upping the stakes" stuff? I feel like that kind of angst is what most people read fanfic FOR. I'd honestly be way more worried that they weren't going to end up as a couple if they'd had a nice good kiss. And how can you not enjoy that damn fine acting from Tennant especially? (Also Sheen's reaction acting, but more subtly since it was really a spotlight moment for Crowley.)
@@talistheintrovert I love it. Right up there next to "adult finances" and "how to do your laundry": "what to expect from a standard Western media narrative arc." XD
There's a reason Neil told us to watch/read Pride and Prejudice in preparation for S2. Not to mention the reference to Richard Curtis films. The rain scene I think is a reference to Four Weddings and a Funeral which is a classic right person, wrong time storyline.
@@mothturtle7897 Imagine if people halfway through P&P were like "OMG that proposal scene was all wrong! How could Jane do this to us??" And then sent her hate mail. I mean I think she was publishing pseudonymously so I guess she would have been the opposite of available on Tumblr.
Fandom culture overall I think has become far too used to their discourse and such having no consequence to anything. It's a problem that is just exacerbated by Neil being accessible to us rabid fans and its very sad.
Yes, I agree. Because the internet is so nicely anonymous, you can abuse people verbally and threaten them if you don't agree with something (in real life, these people would never say these things to your face). This is a very worrying development, and sometimes I wonder why I am doing this to myself, all this toxic behaviour on the internet.
I hate how people think that the moment something sensual/sexual happens between characters, it’s not ace. I’m aro/ace, im dating an aro/ace person, and we cuddle! We kiss! We hold hands! Ace people CAN have sex! Just because Zira and Crowley kissed doesn’t mean they *arent* ace, it doesn’t mean they *are* ace. They could be aro-ace and be in a qpr, they could also be fully allo! The base line is they are in love, and they get to choose how they express that love.
@@talistheintrovert people are really acting like Neil shot their dog when it’s just two (possibly) ace characters kissing. People know most ace people kiss- right??
That's literarily how I interpret their relationship. They are two supernatural beings. They don't need a specific label they just are in love. Its sad how Neil can't win. First GO is "queer baiting" then its "homophobic" or "ace phobic" (depending on the person's view of Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship). People need to calm down.
I'm shocked and mortified anyone would harass Neil after he has written us such a wonderful (though devastating) series, I always thought everyone in the Good Omens fandom was so nice. He sounds like such a nice man as well from what I've heard.
Yeah I know, the group I hang out with on discord are absolutely kind and wonderful people and were there to cheer me up a tad after I expressed my concerns of the series not being renewed. That was my biggest concern and why I was so upset. The thought of the show being canceled after coming so far just devastated me because I lost the Dark Crystal just like this. It was successful but Netflix pulled the plug and it caused everything else associated with the Dark Crystal was canceled soon after. But the fans I'm friends with are very hopeful that won't happen (I'm still worried but I'm slightly more hopeful now) Yes, it sucks that we have to wait but Hollywood has created a terrible working environment and we are seeing them deal with the consequences of their corrupt actions. It's Hollywood itself that we should be angry towards not Neil And we need to let Amazon know that we want season 3 to happen no matter what. Amazon literally has no good content, Good Omens is the only good show they have and if they're smart, they'll salvage whatever fan base they have left and the jump at the opportunity to finish the series. Because it's going to take a while for them to make more and better content and Good Omens was handed to them on a silver platter along with its solid fan base, and a rare one too. One that is both keen on representation and a good story. That's something you don't see everyday
I loved the whole season. I felt like it was a love story not only for Azi and Crowley but a love story for the fans. Everything leading up to the kiss and after hit harder than the actual kiss for me. CROWLEY'S FACE. Ah shit. I'm losing my mind again. I absolutely loved the ending cause it show how much Azi still has to grow, he has to figure it out for himself, will it hurt him, Crowley and us too? Probably but it is necessary. I love this journey
I also just saw a new theory that he lied to protect Crowley! IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE. That he was threatened by Metatron to erase them both if he didn’t go, and that Metatron actually didn’t want Crowley to go at all and told Aziraphale that. Aziraphale knew Crowley would say no to being an angel again, so he had to leave anyway and lie. Because he knew if he told Crowley the truth that he was threatened and doesn’t actually want to go, because he’d rather stay with him (especially after that kiss), he knew Crowley would try to help him and he wanted to protect him.
Yes! And they wouldn't need to have that character growth if the season ended differently. Which, imho, would have done a disservice to the story. I love that they get to fight for each other in the next season, and I look forward to seeing the ways in which they will do so.
@@jjsstikbotvideos4421yes, throughout the season we see Azi come to terms with lying, and the ways in which it isn't always bad to do so. Even his relationship with magic, which is, in a sense, a form of lying to the audience.
@@jackriver8385 Yeah exactly!! I feel like there was so much emphasis on lying this season. It’s all going to come full circle. The more I think about the liar theory, the more it makes complete sense! I also do still btw, think that part of Aziraphale definitely thinks he can change Heaven for the better, and is going to have to finally learn that he can’t, and that he needs to get away from Heaven. But I also think there was definitely A LOT of manipulation from Metatron and that Aziraphale either has a plan up his sleeve, or knows he needs to make one up in Heaven without Crowley’s help. People thinking it’s 100% out of character for him probably aren’t right. I think it was in character, especially for an abuse victim. Abuse victims tend to crawl back to their abusers and think that they can change things for the better. But either way, I think he was threatened. You can tell he seems like he may not be telling the full story of what Metatron said to him. Like he’s leaving bits out, or completely sugarcoating everything he said, because he and Crowley were actually threatened, and he doesn’t want to alert Crowley. And that he seemed choked up, like he couldn’t quite get out what he wanted to say, and would say something else instead. Mainly.. the “I forgive you line”
People are forgetting that while they are entitled to having their opinions and expressing them, they’re NOT entitled to having their opinions listened to or applied. The author is entitled to writing what they feel is best for their story, just as you are to like or dislike the direction they go. I’ve noticed this in other fandoms as well, you don’t like a certain story beat, well clearly it’s a personal slight from a terrible human being who is ruining their own story. And after awhile it’s like why are you still here and wasting this much energy on something you don’t like, just find something worth your time. Neil Gaiman isn’t holding a gun to your head demanding that like his show, but that doesn’t give you the right to barge through his door and demand he change things for you.
So much this. If you want the story to be exactly the way that you want and no one elses, you should write a fanfic. The author can listen to comments, but ultimately they should be the one to decide what is best for their story.
I've noticed this, too. There's definitely a trend of people rushing out to harass creators whenever new development happens that they, personally don't like, and I think it's a problem with the internet making creators too accessible. I also think these people don't understand that their opinion is their opinion, and whatever the writers do, there will be people who like it and people who don't like it, and their preferences are not objectively correct.
Watching this feels like when a teacher is telling off a class and you fully agree with the teacher and know you didn't personally do anything but still feel slightly responsible
Somehow I'm grateful that Neil is 62 years old. He has gone through marriages, breaking up, raising children, and so on. I hope he understand that those morons are just a bunch of immature (and mostly female) teens with underdeveloped brains, no jobs, and too much free time on their disposal🤦🏼♀️
I would love to talk to him. UGH and I would probably joke with him on how the ending broke my heart. But I wouldn't harass him and be an asshole about it like some of these toxic so called fans.
I would love to send a thank you mail to Neil for writing an actually good story for a show amongst a sea of mostly crap content in the last couple of years.
The end of season two had me bawling, but I absolutely loved it. Yes, Neil simultaneously made the romance pure cannon and blew it up at the same time but: Az and Crowley got to the place they needed to be for there to be development. They have literally been in relationship limbo for six thousand years and now there is a chance to move forward.
What really irked me was when the "EVERY" leak happened and people kept reposting it, spoiling it for people and going against Neil's wishes to stop posting it. I knew he was upset about it, so was I for him. It sucked. Whoever at Amazon decided to leak that scene when they KNEW Neil didn't want it leaked should be fired if they aren't by now.
I suspect the leak was stupidity rather than malice. Whoever compiled that promotion likely wasn't familiar with Good Omens and didn't know what a big deal that kiss was.
i’m actually so appreciative of neil for this past season because we’re at a point where we can have “gay” relationships/romance on screen with conflict that’s not about them being queer. i cried like a baby sure but why go and be mean to neil for writing this story and it’s not even over yet
The problem a lot of people have is that they think that something has to make them feel good for that thing to be good. But the thing is, the fact that something makes you feel sad or angry doesn't mean it was badly done. That's the point. It's about telling a good and honest story, not making us feel good or nice all the time. And yes, you are well within your rights to not like that show or that event within the show, but that feeling is a thing that exists inside of you, and it's up to you to deal with that. Neil Gaiman is the one who knows what he's doing, not you.
i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again; neil knows how to write a good story. but a good story doesn’t necessarily always mean a HAPPY one. if theres no conflict how tf are they supposed to grow and develop as characters?!?!? not to mention that neil loves these characters, and he’s going to do right by terry as well
The absolute break neck turn around I had from "wtf I hate this how will I cope" to "this is the greatest thing ever actually" when watching the ending was so fast I'm gonna have back problems for the rest of my life, lmao
Spoiler warning for S2 - The tone of S2 was also different because it was a 'bridge season'. S1 was the story of Good Omens novel, but has some differences such as Gabriel who is not in the book. Terry and Neil plotted out a sequel. Neil has said that S2 was the connecting series to put everything in place to be able to tell the Sequel as he and Terry planned it. S2 neatly removes additional characters like Gabriel to bring it back to whatever is needed for their sequel. I did miss some of the things in S1 like the narration, the additional cast and points of view (Newton, Adam, Anathaema, Shadwell etc) and so the pacing was different but otherwise enjoyable. And not enough Queen music ;) And those who are hating on Aziraphale for not acting as they wanted or expected; really have missed Aziraphale's beliefs and behaviours in S1 - look how long he keeps believing that Heaven is good and just all through S1 with him slowly losing faith throughout S1 and learning that both factions are equally bad just in different ways. Right up to the day of the Apocalypse he is expecting Heaven to do something to stop it. He worries Hell will destroy Crowley for working with him, but never once thinks Heaven would be callous enough to do the same to him. S2 he has lost a lot of his purpose; doing good deeds, helping people because he's adrift, an outcast. Crowley is happiest on Earth, not needing to do bad deeds for hell, just existing. He always knew it didn't matter who did the good or the bad as long as it was done and once cast out as being a traitor he was free from the shackles and able to just be with Aziraphale without hiding them being around each other. But for Aziraphale, to go back and take Crowley with him? Its an obvious decision to him - especially because Crowley would be there too. I think he tends to forget that all Crowley's experiences/life as a Demon is what made Crowley who he is and the being Aziraphale knows - not Crowley's time as an angel. (that he's known Crowley longer as a Demon than an Angel.) Just my thoughts and observations :) But seriously; angst and drama are the key of any storyline and character development so its all good. I've always found a sad ending sticks with me longer than a happy ending anyway AND we aren't finished yet assuming S3 is made.
it would DEFINITELY be nice to have more queen music and more old cast appearances in season 3 but I will take what I can get lol!! and I agree with so much of what you wrote here, especially about angst being a key part of any story and sad endings sticking with you longer - sad endings are only bad to me when they're unsatisfyingly sad, like they don't wrap things up or they "subvert" things just to shock me. I love a well-written, well-acted devastating moment and that's exactly what we got!!
The top comments on this video give a really clear picture of why so many fans are feeling betrayed. And many are grieving for so many reasons. Neil (I’m trying to stop calling him that) really ingratiated himself to the fan community. And made people feel like he was one of us. The fact that he used that specific standing (apart from his simple success as a writer) to gain access to vulnerable women and young queer people is absolutely nauseating. I hope more people know and that people stop trusting him. I hope he never hurts anyone again.
To me the ending was perfect 'cause the whole season build up to the ending. My main issue with S1 was that there were too many characters and plot points, but this season only focused on the two mc. The side characters (romances) helped to elevate/contrast their relationship. People complaining about the ending aren't familiar with storytelling.
as that wise tumblr post by crowzi said: stop asking neil gaiman to confirm/deny things and just violently project your own issues onto the characters the way God intended
Say it louder! Neil is nobody's therapist. He is a writer. He is an awesome writer. Season 2 was a perfectly beautifully written season. Yes, we are all heartbroken about it. We want resolution, which is a very valid need, I get it. But that's what season 3 is going to be for. The only part we play is to re-watch the season 2 and hope for the best. Maybe write a fanfiction till then, or rant to your best friend about it and make them watch it. Make art or watch edits. Don't bother Neil with it. He is not responsible for how we feel about the thing he created. He is only responsible about the thing he created. And he created it so well. Trust Neil. Re-watch. And take care of your mental health. Stop the hate and look at good omens as the beautiful love story it is.
Thanks for this. I've met Neil, and he's a real sweetie. Despite having been at this for a while, catching all manner of crap attention over the years, he's kept himself unusually accessible via letter box, PMs and the like. It's astounding how available he's been for writing advice and so forth. It'd be a real pleasure to see fans point that emotional energy towards making their own stuff. Fan fics, edits, art, GIFs--it's all good.
My favorite Good Omens fanfic: Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach. It’s so good. It’s about Crowley going to therapy to work through his trauma of being rejected by Her. It’s from before the second season.
I actually love the way it ended. I think an ending without an extreme angst bomb before the ending of the seasries wouldn't have been satisfying enough. Imagine if Neil ended the show without them having a falling out or at least a reaction or expositor of the intricacies of their dinamic throughout the series would have been an insult to how complicated there characters and relationship is. They needed this, they needed to have this falling out. Because now all the cards are exposed for season three and we get some good old angst. This is the only ending to season 2 I would have been satisfied with tbh. So good job Neil. And thank you.
I recently just watched your video on how John Green was bullied off tumblr and all I could think of was how much longer until Neil gives up on Tumblr too.
My sense of Neil Gaiman has always been that he has a very healthy ego. I don't mean that in a mean way; I just mean that I feel like he's the kind of person who's pretty good at focusing on positive comments (which it looks like he gets too) and letting the negative ones roll off. Which not everyone can do, but it's a great skill for an artist to have. He's been geek-famous since the 90s, he's got a lot of experience with this rodeo. Which doesn't mean people shouldn't still treat him with basic human decency, of course!
@@falconeshield Well I mean, a lot of them are, right? My sense is that for a lot of the most vocal of fans, they literally are 16-year-olds dealing with their first fandom shipping experiences and whatnot. I bet the vast majority age out of it quickly, but of course there is a constant supply of new 16-year-olds. (And this is not meant as a knock on 16-year-olds, many of whom are lovely! Just that lots of people handle their first experience of having very intense emotions about something less elegantly than they may later do.)
I sobbed my way through the ending, I say without exaggeration it made me rethink my relationship because I saw a lot of myself in Crowley's anger. But Neil deserves respect as much as anyone else
You are quite right. A story belongs to the author. Fans don’t get to tell them what to write or throw tantrums when they don’t get what they want. This is a second act twist. Don’t lose your minds, people!
That is what fanfic is for: YOU doing something about the plot-parts you did not agree with (and create your own parallel universe). Like the question to David Tennant: "If Doctor Who exists in the Good Omens Universe, who on earth is playing the 10th Doctor there?" - Well in my opinion it must be a bored Crowley (give-away phrase at the beginning of 10th's regeneration: "Is my hair GINGER?... Awww, I wanted it to be ginger!"). The book of Good Omens was written in the summer 1989 - so Adam becomes 11 in August of the year 2000 - like the old prophecy of the world ending in the year two-thousend and... (something about the fact that Jesus might have been born in the year 7 B.C. - BUT Gaius Julius Ceasar - a proper historical figure - was born in July 100 B.C. as a FACT) - The 2nd season of Good Omens is said to play out 4 or 5 years after season 1 - so we have 2004 / 2005 - New Who hasn't even started yet, OR Christopher Ecclestone has made such a good impression that the world is yearning for more Who-stuff! Eighter way - Crowley has lost all his purpose in existence and might be in need of a time-machine to fix his love-life. What better way, then to invest ones energy into a show about time-travel - you sneek up on Russel T Davies with his 'Love Life of Casanova' and take Doctor Who from there - Poor Christopher Ecclestone who was miracled out of the show by all the shit happening behind sceens - just to make way for Crowley to take the Doctor's place and distract himself from the loss he had suffered. OR - like Terry Pratchett obeseved in one of his stories (about the Watch and some fanatical dwarfs, who get consumed by a shadow entity: they were still at the stage of "when will SOMEONE do something about it" and had not yet reached the "what will I do?" level of events) - if you don't like it: leave it - or bend it to your likings!
i just recently started watching good omens, but i really love that show and it's safe to say the end of season 2 absolutely killed me, but like... i'm not mad. just because the end was sad shouldn't really take away from how great the rest of the season was, and not to mention it's NOT THE END and it's NOT BAD. i think it makes sense for the characters and it perfectly sets up character arcs and a ton of internal and external conflict for season 3, and i think when the story actually reaches its end it'll be that much more rewarding. people need to calm tf down and go read some fix-it fics. (also side note i'm aroace and sex/romance repulsed but i find pretty much all forms of affection like cuddling, kissing, etc to be something that's only romantic or sexual if it is intended that way so i don't think them kissing is in any way asexual erasure)
I agree with your sidenote about aroace physical affections. I think a kiss would mean something different for Crowley and Aziraphale than it would for any human.
@@historyshaker7412 yeah, i mean they're ethereal beings so they would probably wouldn't really experience "romantic" feelings the way alloromantic humans would, so expressions of affection would mean something different, but they clearly love each other a lot and that's what matters
Exactly the ending makes me "mad" in like the way most pieces of fiction do when something happens that I don't expect. I may be dramatic about it but I'm not gonna be an Annie Wilkes. I hate toxic fans. And yes the whole season is wonderful, I absolutely loved it.
As someone whose not on Twitter I'll be honest I'm a little surprised people are upset with the ending Like from that ending it's obvious they're going to get together as a romantic couple right? Like sure they haven't right now but that's like getting upset The Rebels didn't win in Empire Strikes Back Like obviously the Happily Ever After isn't in Chapter 2 of 3
I'm not harassing Neil, but I didn't like the season. Not because they didn't get together, but because I feel like when held up against the novel/season 1 the writing was strikingly bad and the characterization was quite off. Crowley was a fun, charming wildcard in Good Omens 1. In Good Omens two, he's a hapless grump that can't figure out a way to not live in his car? S1 Aziraphale is a little eccentric, and too optimistic for his own good, but he's also smart and pragmatic. In S2 he's a saccharine fool that doesn't have the sense to not be trying to play cupid for strangers while a mob of demons are milling around outside of his bookshop? So, yeah, nobody should be inboxing Neil on that, but I think there are very legitimate criticisms of the new season happening.
I enjoyed Season 2 a lot. I liked some of the questions it was asking and challenges to the hierarchal view of the upstairs and downstairs of that world and I'll be frank the theology it's based on, so much. I do agree characters got a little derailed to meet those discussions. I even like that Nina and Maggie are one in the eye for the toxicity in shipping real people. I am not emotionally married to Gaiman's cultural idol or Prachett's as many are so maybe my expectations are less. I felt like the season was about challenging any gaps in the worldbuilding from the book and previous series and giving a few crumbs towards Arizaphale and Crowley been eternal life partners. As a last rambly thought I really like the end. Because there are way too many real life couples where that happens. Where one decides their lifestyle and ethics has more weight than the other person/persons. And that's toxic as hell (pun intended) and very much something an Angel of myth and this worldbuilding would do.
I cried at the end of season 2. I screamed, might throw up, ended up with my heart cut out, but how much I loved it. I enjoy shows that give me "the feels". The wait for season 3 (or any other way this story will be ended) will give me the energy to go on with life for a few more years. And being honest, that the show made me so sad, really helps with my depression, how strage this sounds. So thank Neil for a piece of healing.
As heart breaking as the season 2 ending was, I loved it. I think Neil Gaiman is brilliant for doing so. It didn’t feel like fan service but a natural conclusion to season 2s story. THIS is what makes Good Omens so good. ❤
As you touched on briefly in the video, Zira is a victim of religious trauma as I thought about it more it really is true! Crowley calls him out on it in season 1. And Zira, (like any cult victim) defends it. And when the metronome comes in like a cult leader buttering him up saying “he is such a good leader” and “tells the angels what they need to hear” to drive a wench between him and Crowley, who is an atheist, to Zira’s religious trauma
To me this show is a commentary on how religious trauma and how it affects atheists vs people who refuse to admit their trauma. Or like people who got out of a cult vs people still in it. Crowley sees things for how they are and Zira doesn’t want to. Even though he would admit Heaven made him do pretty heinous things. And to add insult to injury the Angels don’t see him as “one of them”. Which makes him more lonely and more drawn to Crowley.
I think season 3 will see Zira learn to be more human and learn empathy. Because of the angels act, Zira doesn’t understand human suffering and can only see right and wrong. Digging up a body is “wrong” poverty is “right” and “make you a better”
Me, a Demisexual: I have rarely found something so gorgeously romantic than this story. The way in which they conduct themselves and the sheer sincerity and unconditional care and devotion and love they have for each other stops my heart. I desperately want them to be happy. I want them to understand and cherish the little things. I want them to be able to express and communicate how they've felt for so long to each other. I want them to have the world in each other. But I also understand why things went down the way it did. Season two broke me. And it was perfect. And the hurt will make their reunion just *that* much sweeter. And I know I'll definitely be crying with whatever happens in the end. And that means that Neil and Terry succeeded in their job.
THANK YOU! I’m honestly been happy watching Good Omens and while we are allowed to feel sad about things happening in S2 , NONE of that justifies the disrespectful behavior towards NG.
This type of overstepping and boundary breaking has also been an issue in the recent “Welcome Home” project fandom. It’s extremely uncomfortable that some people don’t know how to respect boundaries towards the creator/actors. Creators, actors, writers, artists are PEOPLE and aren’t entitled to uphold your wishes. It’s their story and characters.
When I get upset about the ending of Good Omens season 2 I just think about what Neil and Terry have planed for Crowley and Aziraphale, the South Down Cottage! This is not the ending for the two entities, they share a cottage in the south down, and that is canon.
I totally agree! While at the moment we have hurt/comfort feelings with no promise of ever getting the comfort part of the trope, I LOVE Good Omens and Season 2 might be one of my favorite. Also as a novice writer who is working on her first book, angst is so much fun as both a writer and the audience. On another note: I love your shirt!
I’m somewhere on the ace spec, and I liked the kiss scene. It did hurt my heart a little but it was meant to. I’m just excited Neil Gaiman let it happen in his show. I will be forever great full.
I LOVED the season. Of course that kiss was painful, it had to be. I think Crowley and Aziraphel are still too different to be together. Crowley is way over hell and heaven, Azi still needs to believe that he's in the "good" side, he needs to try Can't wait for season 3 but while I do I'll re-watch seasons 1 and 2 and cry my eyes out with that ending :D
I really appreciate all you said in this video, and your recommendations for other media (because goodness knows I needed them). I went and watched Sasaki and Miyano after the season 2 ending because I was DEVASTATED. Turns out I just needed some cool down time. Overall I think that the season 2 ending is brilliant and heart wrenching, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
i think a cool off period should be required for ALL public media opinions. I have left TERRIBLE movies riding the high and thinking they were great only to realise I hated them 24 hours later, and I've thought I disliked things that I just needed time to warm up to. I have a personal rule to reserve my opinion on films for up to 48 hours after I've seen them in the cinema, because the cinema high is a tricky mistress and she will lie to you 🤌
“Breaking there hearts?” I think they mean setting up a 3rd season! People r mad at the ending? I was sad, mad at Azi, but frikin ecstatic that they were showing some really good character drama!
you are absolutely fantastic for doing this so respectfully yet so firm, sometimes this fandom does need a bit of slapping around to return to reality and you did it perfectly! i wish the internet wasn't so devoid of humanity, videos like these give me hope that we arent doomed for a world full of fictional expectations :,)
I can’t believe so many people have been so terrible to him because of Season 2, what the hell?! I absolutely adore Good Omens. I often listen to the audiobook when I’m heading to bed. I fell in love with the series and although Season 2 was lower stakes I always figured that it was supposed to be setting up to what was to happen in the final season since a second coming or even the eventual war heaven and hell would wage against Earth together (as Crowley mentioned at the end of season 1) is not something you can sufficiently build up to and then have a climax to within a six episode season, even if those episodes are an hour or so long. And I agree wholeheartedly, the cliffhanger thing kinda sucks but it does so in a good way, because it’s painful to wait and see what happens to these characters we know and love, but that means they didn’t end the season with me hating or no longer caring for the characters. The wait will be worth it. I love the second season for different but similar reasons to the first. I am so used to being burned by shows for hoping that an lgbt ship will actually come out, so I kept ignoring all the signs of what was coming and was in complete denial that it would happen right up to Crowley kissing Aziraphale and then I just lost it. I loved it, it broke my heart. I felt bad for them both that they had a bad first kiss, one that breached consent (I bet that Crowley will be apologising for that in season 3) but I loved that it happened and it happened because Crowley felt like it was the only thing he could do. I cried for two hours after the episode ended and I loved the whole thing. Some people need to calm their tits and get over the fact that it’s simply good writing when your setting up the next season. Glad we agree on so many points, you’re really cool and I’ve been loving your content. Though I do think you should watch The Plastic Feminism of Barbie by verilybitchie because it has a very different take on the movie than you did using information on the behind the scenes goings on of the brand and the company as well, thought you’d find it interesting 💛🤍💜🖤
The kiss makes me uncomfortable because it was forceful and from a closed friend, but I can't believe I never thought of the fact that Crowley will, like, apologize - he better! So thanks for mentioning that, it calms my brain and feelings about it
God I'm so glad someone has made a video about this. Looking at Neils tumblr recently and I'm just like god. The fact that this guy hasn't just completely closed his asks is astounding. Like I was reading some of them and I'm just like dude. I think some of them are perhaps just a bit younger and maybe don't understand "fandom culture". I think the season was very well written and people genuinely couldn't get their heads around the idea that this is not the end for these characters. I think it woulda been far more out of character if the kiss just automatically swayed Aziraphale and he stayed with Crowley. If that had happened that woulda just been fan service for the sake of fan service. Unfortunately I think Neil was almost doomed either way.
I loved the ending of S2, I loved it! The sadness of it, the impact it had on me was something I hadn't felt in a long time, it was very special. And it made me excited for all fan projects that will follow from this season, especially the couple that I've seen so far. I just watched a new animatic for a follow up scenario from S2 that uses the HTTYD audio "you're as beautiful as the day I lost you" involving the reunion between Crowley and Azi and I squealed! It showed me that, had S2 ended so peacefully, entire years worth of passionate projects wouldn't be born, as I know they will be now. Because of this heartfelt ending, because of the beautiful heartbreaks, people will feel that and will translate that into new forms of artwork. Fics, animations, animatics, songs, pictures, all of it; and it will all be so wonderful. I want Neil to know that there are those in his audience that have his back, and I mourn for the mad members of our community who don't understand or care for what damage they're causing. I believe in Gaiman, and I trust he knows what he's doing!
As much as I care about Good Omens (a lot, more than it's even healthy) I respect the direction he's been taking. I truly hope there will be a season 3 of course, but I know how much time, work and money is needed for a series like that, so I'm just grateful there even is a season 2. Let's all wait in peace, respect and patience pleaaase!
Excellent video. Spot on points. And I cannot conceive of how season 3 could be interesting, or have any real stakes/drama that could be more satisfying if Aziraphale & Crowley's relationship was resolved in season 2. So I trust Neil Gaiman and just hope that season 3 gets made!
it was literally so obvious to me that they aren’t going to leave the series like this. of course i was upset about it and that we have to wait. but i know that neil will make everything better and bless us with his lovely storytelling!
I truly hate cliffhangers cuz lots of shows I love ended like that only to be immediately cancel BUT after just one re watch I can say I loved the season as a whole After my 5 re watch I noticed that the parallels are insane, one of my favorites being "aim for my mouth, but shoot past my ear" coded for the confession-brake up I can understand people who didn't like the ending but I promise, the show was written with love and care
This is my same reasoning for hating cliffhanger endings lol. Shows get cancelled. We might nkt even get a season 3 to tie it all up nicely and end with these two living together in a cottage by the sea. But then, that's what fanfics are for. And yes, beautiful season nonetheless. Had a very different vibe from s1, but still good in its own way.
Tbh, I've never trusted a writer more than I have Neil Gaiman, and I have yet to actually regret it. Also, I feel like many people see the ending of season 2 as the same thing they did with Destiel in Supernatural (as evidenced by the numerous tumblr posts comparing the two), when that isn't actually the case at all.
the trauma response from actual badly written queer stuff is SO real, but we do definitely have to remember that they are not all the same and Neil *rarely* steers us wrong 🤌🤌🤌
Thank you for voicing my thoughts lol I was so upset after I first finished it and even joked about being offended by Neil with my sibling but I didn’t know people actually directly went after Neil for it?! It was beautifully written and as you said, it isn’t the end. Anyway, keep rewatching and have a great day everyone.
Agh that stress about how to handle the direct line to yourself as a creative is really relatable. It’s hard to put yourself out there. Thanks for the insight into something I’ve thought about a lot but not heard as much about!
yeah it's sad, but it's BEAUTIFUL writing. just amazing. and I saw someone say somewhere that the end of this season is going to encourage so many people to create their own fanfics and stories and art about these wonderful characters. Neil Gaiman is encouraging us to create something unique (haha, somewhat) and beautiful of our own. He's encouraging us to WRITE
Even though I had a tiny anxiety attack over the ending, I can recognize how amazing the writing is! It’s a great way to hook the audience in for the final season. And also, there’s a reason fanfiction and fanart exists! If you don’t enjoy the season ending, go and look at those! Don’t send literal death threats to Gaiman.
The ending absolutely devastated me, but it's crazy to just go straight to Neil about it. Not to mention, the ending isn't always going to be happy and we all know it'll end out okay. I feel so bad for Neil
I sent a Tweet to Neil Gaiman thanking him for creating season 2 to rectify other's actions. He really doesn't deserve hate-mail, in whatever format or platform.
UA-cam recommended me your channel and im so grateful for that! Your takes are very on point. Also its nice to know that im not weird for hesitating to get into new shows in fear that they would be cancelled (still recovering from the Inside job(((( or turn insane. And regarding season 2. Pf course, the ending destroyed me, but it was beautiful and so thought out and im gfateful that the problems that existed in the first half of the season came in play in the end. It was a very good ending and im grateful for it.
I appreciate your content! Keep doing what you do so well. Edit to add: Wrote the above then finished the video. Excellent balance of directness and sensitivity to what’s human and empathetic in the behavior you’re addressing here. I’m not on social media at all, other than YT (which, I understand from my kids, makes me a bit yikes?) so I was surprised (and not surprised on reflection) to learn that a vocal segment of the fandom didn’t see “the kiss” and the ending moments of GO2 as simply….well, exactly what you just described so succinctly. The conventions of storytelling were so clearly honored, the story so clearly signaling what it was up to in those scenes, and you’ve explained it all so kindly and accessibly. I’m hoping that at least some of your audience will come away from this video feeling a little better, and perhaps, slightly sheepish, and even, willing to make apologies to Mr Gaiman if their recent posting warrants it. Because we all would live in a less wonderful world without his talents and willingness to share, right?
Season 2 made the sub text into text, that’s good enough for me (for now). That said currently re-reading my favorite MM grumpy/sunshine romance to self sooth.
this was definitely needed thank you for calling these people out! im a good omens and lifelong neil gaiman fan aswell, though im not too active in the fandom, and ive seen so much hate over the ending. I thought the season was great and i think the ending needed some kind of big scene like that- to keep us invested for another season!!!! we all know it will be worked out in the next season and be adorable.
I get that some people like fluff and romances without drama and angst but Dan that ending to me felt like the moment before the drop or rise in a roller-coaster. A build up to something great ! Might have to wait a while for the drop but it's so exciting !
I just finished the show and it was absolutely amazing. I cried like a lil baby. I love their chemistry and the way his hand shook when he touched his lips. That felt real. They are such great actors. I can’t believe people are so mad. My lil heart is broke but excited for the 3rd ☺️
Loved the video! The season two was devastating and absolutely great. I cried, sure, but I can't wait for S3. Neil is a genius and just the fact taht he takes fanfocs as normal part of his work and communicates with fans is awesome. And you're right, hours after release, new wave of stories on AO3 started appearing, many of them fix-it, so I spent hours reading :D
i absolutely love this period of time between the angst and the resolution!! is a time we will never get back after good omens ends and as fans we all should cherish it!
The crazy thing is viewers want to get what they want now--even when it means that there's no hope of doing what needs to be done later. They want the happy ending from the beginning on. Which is insane. "Give me my resolution, and then some more of my resolution, and still more of my resolution! Give me celebrations at Gondor, and spare me both the trip through Mordor and the sadness at the Grey Havens." That's not a story. So we are sad now--and may even be sad in the end. But neither overrules getting happy in the crucial moments. I just want Aziraphale and Crowley to get to explore loving each other, and to be happy together. I am willing to put up with sadness along the way, as Neil tells the story he and Terry dreamed of.
this is an incredible video, as a person apart of many fandoms it can so quickly go wrong. Luckily i have not come across anyone saying the ending to s2 was bad, because it isn't. As an avid reader and media consumer i know when somethings ending is bad and poorly wirtten and when something is sad and well-written (GO is one of these instances). these two things are not the same. Sad does not immediately equal bad, and I think that is something some people need to learn, for the better (also your Good Omens tattoo is awesome and really creative)
I felt more heartbroken after season 1, thinking that was it. Might also be because I'm now in different circumstances personally. (The moment I actually found most difficult to watch was that one on stage. I felt so awkward, I paused the episode for more than an hour.) I also got warned by my sister in advance, my reaction eventually was 'let me feel miserable' (aka, distract me from rl please). And so after watching, I wasn't devastated at all. Sure, maybe a bit sad but I also see potential for the future. The coffee theory I read about afterwards made me feel less patient for the third season. I want to know what the reaction to this thing would be if they found out. I have questions now. And they'll remain unanswered for about 4 years. How much fun is Neil Gaimen having reading about the fan theories I then wondered - but hearing how toxic people are currently being... I hope he's doing well.
So glad that my obsessive consumption of Good Omen’s content caused the algorithm to bring me your channel. As for the direct comments about Neil and the story he’s putting out there - 1)If writing a compelling story that translated well to visual media was easy, we’d all do it. 2) He’s giving us the story he and Terry never got to finish. As someone who’s experienced grief, it makes it all the more poignant and touching for me. I hope he finds solace in bringing it to life.
It's beautiful and tragic and so emotional. It's a brilliant story and people shouldn't be harassing him over it. It's also definitely setting up a 3rd season and I wish amazon would have simply decided to also make the 3rd when they decided to make the 2nd instead of waiting and leaving us in this awful limbo. I'm jaded from so many good shows being left on a cliffhanger only to never get another season and the chance to properly wrap up. I can be patient if I know it's coming, I understand delays happening and the strikes going on for good reason, but the not knowing has me annoyed at amazon.
I feel you so much right now. I agree with everything you said. I would never harass anybody, less when what they've created is something so perfect narratively speaking, and so new! So original! I didn't expect this season, and I've decided I adore it even more than season 1 (sorry I LOVE romance and angst with HEA), just for everything it has made me feel . But yes, the not knowing about season 3 being greenlighted is making me very anxious and depressed cause I can't be fully happy rewatching not knowing there will be more. I know about the book in the worst case, but that only stops me from dying, not from crying, because for me Tennant and Sheen have become Crowley and Aziraphale in my heart. I know! Wait and see! But I need a little help this days aaaah!
I watched this video because when I read the title I was like "what do you mean?" But I get it now and you're absolutly right! This fandom is amazing and we want to protect it at all costs but sometimes there are things that needs to go a little diffrent. Thanks for the vid!
Great video! I think it's absolutely ridiculous that a portion of the fandom is harassing Neil on this. These people seem to have forgotten that we're not entitled to a new season - the fact that we have a new season is absolutely godsent. Yes it did end with a cliffhanger and it didn't give us the ending that we had in our minds (yet, hopefully) but it was so well written and there was so much love and effort put into it. The fact that there's a 3rd season makes me so happy (Subtext: You mean fans who were initially left giddy after season 1 gets 2 extra seasons under Neil Gaiman's watch? Big win for us!). I think it's extremely disrespectful and ungrateful of people to hate on the new season just because it didn't deliver instant gratification - Neil has no obligation to fulfil that, and if Aziraphale and Crowley could wait for 6,000 years, why can't you? I personally wasn't that hyped over the kiss scene for the same reasons you mentioned (side note - I rationalised it as how else would Crowley get the message across to Aziraphale? Kissing may be out of character but in my opinion, Crowley expressing his feelings verbally would be more out of character - would love to hear your take on this) but I respect and trust Neil's decision to put this scene in, just as much as how he had decided to end season 2 on a cliffhanger and that greater things await in season 3.
As much as the finale devastated me at the ripe time of 5am and basically going "what the fuck?", I love the ending. I loved it then and I still love it now, and having allowing it to digest, as you say, it was basically the best way to end it. I don't want fluffy rainbows for an ending, at least not until the END END! It was also in-character. 6000 years of not talking? Yeah, 2 lesbians kicking you up the backside isn't going to suddenly fix that. They continued to STILL not talk, opening up the door perfectly for a s3 to sort their shit out. Aziraphale has always felt out of place, only dipping his feet into the grey whereas Crowley swam in it. And really... I can't blame Aziraphale for wanting to change things for everyone's sake. He's just too good, and yes, I still want to wring his neck, but I GET IT! He's still got a lot of learning to do, and he's certainly not ready to take the plunge yet with Crowley as a lover. As insane as it sounds, he needs more time. 6000ish years after they met, he only THEN fell in love, AND told Crowley to slow down. He is not ready. The kiss was great, but it was also kind of a bad move on Crowley's part, i.e moving too fast. Again, more talking might have worked, but they're hopeless at that, and that's why the ending was got exists. In short, don't fucking send hate mail to anyone. The people that do, and have, are incrediably sensitive, immature, and pathetic, and I hope some form of karma comes their way, because this season was great, and I need that s3 to see how the story unfolds.
also the actors and neil can't do a lot of direct promotion because of the strikes, so go watch the show and also SUPPORT THE STRIKERS!!

As an asexual, nothing makes me want to claw my eyes out more than people saying kissing is inherently sexual. It's infuriating.
🖤🩶🤍💜
they are exactly like the people who see a gay/lesbian kiss and act like it's p*rn
YES and also it's not like their kiss was even particularly enjoyable to either of them, it was more about making a point.

It’s fantasy, but it’s not a fairy tale.
we love angst in this house, as long as the angst serves the characters and narrative (which in this case, it does!)

The exact quote that came to my mind. Thank you.

Entitlement mostly
it's brilliant story telling on his end to be able to create feelings this strong for two fictional characters !

As much as I love Good Omens (I even backed the Graphic Novel Kickstarter) I find the fandom ridiculous; first in season one it was queerbaiting and now it’s homophobic for Neil daring to add conflict to Aziraphale and Crowley love story. As someone who grew up in the 90’s when the only ‘gay’ character we got on tv where queer-coded villains and a gay character in a very special episode where they got aids and/or died of aids, it makes me irritated when people say Good Omens is homophobic.
👏👏👏
It's sad that I know exactly what you're talking about.
@@AuroraDeLirio one hundred percent agree

I wrote a fix-it fic on AO3 that I intended to be a little DIY season 3 idea, as my biggest takeaway was "Hey, Crowley has been doing all the chasing, all the rescuing, and Aziraphale isn't meeting him where he's at." So I wrote a fic where Aziraphale redeems himself in that regard.
@arinsnead5595 okay so first of all, please dm me this fic on tumblr, secondly, I WILL COMMENT A SUPER NICE THING TO MAKE UP FOR THAT

that's exactly the right attitude to have!! I wish all of us reacted that way lol
I completely agree!
Its a great ending for season 2, yes its in character. but am I also heartbroken? Oh yes
im literally so glad ep6 ended the way it did. it makes their relationship way more realistic and also really shows their individual character flaws and insecurities etc and that it doesnt always just work out. especially not outside of fiction. im really really excited to see them work through their trauma and ACTUALLY talk in season 3.
I had such a bad feeling that this season was going to end with a cliff hanger. But you are 100% right. This was all 100% in character for both of them. So my heart is broken, but I'm not made.
YES! It was SO GOOD! For one, it’s such a Neil thing to do and besides, it was absolutely plausible and in character, it was GREAT.

Fandom culture overall I think has become far too used to their discourse and such having no consequence to anything. It's a problem that is just exacerbated by Neil being accessible to us rabid fans and its very sad.
AGREED!!

Also, um, they're not human. Maybe they don't have genitals. They can still love each other without the naughty bits, every thought about that?
But the fans I'm friends with are very hopeful that won't happen (I'm still worried but I'm slightly more hopeful now)
Yes, it sucks that we have to wait but Hollywood has created a terrible working environment and we are seeing them deal with the consequences of their corrupt actions.
It's Hollywood itself that we should be angry towards not Neil
And we need to let Amazon know that we want season 3 to happen no matter what.
I thought so, too. I'm actually glad that I haven't stumbled upon those fans that are so extreme, just the nice ones.
My only takeaway is that I'd really like season 3 sooner rather than later.

YESSSS 👏👏👏
Neil Gaiman isn’t holding a gun to your head demanding that like his show, but that doesn’t give you the right to barge through his door and demand he change things for you.
exactlyyyyy 👏👏👏

I would love to send a thank you mail to Neil for writing an actually good story for a show amongst a sea of mostly crap content in the last couple of years.
My dad told me he meet Neil gaiman at his work years ago (he was a costumer) and he was really nice, dint do the whole “I’m a celebrity by the way”
The end of season two had me bawling, but I absolutely loved it.

It sucked. Whoever at Amazon decided to leak that scene when they KNEW Neil didn't want it leaked should be fired if they aren't by now.
me too, it was so frustrating!!
That's a paddlin

Spoiler warning for S2 -
The tone of S2 was also different because it was a 'bridge season'.
And not enough Queen music ;)
And those who are hating on Aziraphale for not acting as they wanted or expected; really have missed Aziraphale's beliefs and behaviours in S1 - look how long he keeps believing that Heaven is good and just all through S1 with him slowly losing faith throughout S1 and learning that both factions are equally bad just in different ways.
(that he's known Crowley longer as a Demon than an Angel.)
Just my thoughts and observations :) But seriously; angst and drama are the key of any storyline and character development so its all good.
Speaking of Queen music, my only strong theory for season 3 is at some point we're going to get "I've Got to Break Free".

Oh that one was so good
I actually love the way it ended.

As someone who is on Twitter this actually the first time ive heard about people being upset. So its definitely not common!
💛💛💛💛
As you touched on briefly in the video, Zira is a victim of religious trauma as I thought about it more it really is true! Crowley calls him out on it in season 1. And Zira, (like any cult victim) defends it. And when the metronome comes in like a cult leader buttering him up saying “he is such a good leader” and “tells the angels what they need to hear” to drive a wench between him and Crowley, who is an atheist, to Zira’s religious trauma
👏👏👏👏👏
🖤🩶🤍💜
“the story is finished, we just haven’t seen the ending yet” idk why that hit me so hard but it did. it made me sad but also excited.
I'm glad it took me over 3 weeks of insane amounts of good omens content to find any controversy, this is the healthiest fandom I've ever joined
👏👏👏
I am sad you didn't mention Muriel, but I loved this video so, so much. Also, excited to read your stories
When I get upset about the ending of Good Omens season 2 I just think about what Neil and Terry have planed for Crowley and Aziraphale, the South Down Cottage!
This is not the ending for the two entities, they share a cottage in the south down, and that is canon.
YESSSS
I totally agree! While at the moment we have hurt/comfort feelings with no promise of ever getting the comfort part of the trope, I LOVE Good Omens and Season 2 might be one of my favorite. Also as a novice writer who is working on her first book, angst is so much fun as both a writer and the audience.
On another note: I love your shirt!
thank you!! 💜💜💜
id love to hear you do an essay about how the fandom has treated aziraphale's trauma in comparison to crowleys!
I’m somewhere on the ace spec, and I liked the kiss scene. It did hurt my heart a little but it was meant to. I’m just excited Neil Gaiman let it happen in his show. I will be forever great full.
🖤🩶🤍💜
I LOVED the season. Of course that kiss was painful, it had to be. I think Crowley and Aziraphel are still too different to be together. Crowley is way over hell and heaven, Azi still needs to believe that he's in the "good" side, he needs to try Can't wait for season 3 but while I do I'll re-watch seasons 1 and 2 and cry my eyes out with that ending :D
YESSSS 🤌🤌🤌
I was sad, mad at Azi, but frikin ecstatic that they were showing some really good character drama!
hell yeah babeyyyyyy
@@talistheintrovert 😂
Has the series been greenlit a 3 season? Because if not, well...
you are absolutely fantastic for doing this so respectfully yet so firm, sometimes this fandom does need a bit of slapping around to return to reality and you did it perfectly! i wish the internet wasn't so devoid of humanity, videos like these give me hope that we arent doomed for a world full of fictional expectations :,)
this is so kind of you, thank you!! 💜💜
I actually watched the verilybitchie video before I made mine (I love her) and she makes amazing points! I highly endorse their content 🙏
@@talistheintrovert nice! Same, her videos are always a great watch
The kiss makes me uncomfortable because it was forceful and from a closed friend, but I can't believe I never thought of the fact that Crowley will, like, apologize - he better! So thanks for mentioning that, it calms my brain and feelings about it
Yeah, I thought as cliffhangers go it was the best kind, because it was so clearly a narrative set-up for stuff fandom will enjoy much more.
Unfortunately I think Neil was almost doomed either way.
yeah it's really demoralising, but I'm hoping it'll calm down a bit soon so he can go back to business as usual
@talistheintrovert Im hoping it does as well cuz quite frankly, he doesn't deserve the treatment he is being given currently.
OMG HELL YESSSS 💜💜💜💜
As much as I care about Good Omens (a lot, more than it's even healthy) I respect the direction he's been taking. I truly hope there will be a season 3 of course, but I know how much time, work and money is needed for a series like that, so I'm just grateful there even is a season 2. Let's all wait in peace, respect and patience pleaaase!
🤌🤌🤌
Excellent video. Spot on points. And I cannot conceive of how season 3 could be interesting, or have any real stakes/drama that could be more satisfying if Aziraphale & Crowley's relationship was resolved in season 2. So I trust Neil Gaiman and just hope that season 3 gets made!
it was literally so obvious to me that they aren’t going to leave the series like this. of course i was upset about it and that we have to wait. but i know that neil will make everything better and bless us with his lovely storytelling!
hell yeah babeyyyy!!!
I truly hate cliffhangers cuz lots of shows I love ended like that only to be immediately cancel
BUT after just one re watch I can say I loved the season as a whole
After my 5 re watch I noticed that the parallels are insane, one of my favorites being "aim for my mouth, but shoot past my ear" coded for the confession-brake up
I can understand people who didn't like the ending but I promise, the show was written with love and care
👏👏👏
💛💛💛
Agh that stress about how to handle the direct line to yourself as a creative is really relatable. It’s hard to put yourself out there. Thanks for the insight into something I’ve thought about a lot but not heard as much about!
thank you!!
yeah it's sad, but it's BEAUTIFUL writing. just amazing. and I saw someone say somewhere that the end of this season is going to encourage so many people to create their own fanfics and stories and art about these wonderful characters. Neil Gaiman is encouraging us to create something unique (haha, somewhat) and beautiful of our own. He's encouraging us to WRITE
GOD, *YES*. 💜💜💜
He really doesn't deserve hate-mail, in whatever format or platform.
that's such a nice thing to do!! 💜💜💜
Well put. I loved every minute of S2. It broke my heart - but I'm loving every minute of it.
what an entire mood 👏👏
I appreciate your content! Keep doing what you do so well.
Edit to add:
Wrote the above then finished the video.
💛💛💛
Season 2 made the sub text into text, that’s good enough for me (for now). That said currently re-reading my favorite MM grumpy/sunshine romance to self sooth.
understandable!! 💜
this was definitely needed thank you for calling these people out! im a good omens and lifelong neil gaiman fan aswell, though im not too active in the fandom, and ive seen so much hate over the ending. I thought the season was great and i think the ending needed some kind of big scene like that- to keep us invested for another season!!!! we all know it will be worked out in the next season and be adorable.
💛💛💛💛
I get that some people like fluff and romances without drama and angst but Dan that ending to me felt like the moment before the drop or rise in a roller-coaster. A build up to something great ! Might have to wait a while for the drop but it's so exciting !
ooh, that's such a good way to put it!!
Agree 100% agree. Art is supposed to make you feel something, and that's not always good feelings. These characters are complex, so are relationships
🙏🙏🙏
Season 2 just made me excited for season 3 if it ever happens. I just enjoyed the whole thing.
been thinking about this all week, thank you for speaking up. feels like fandom etiquette has been on a steady decline in recent years.
it truly does!!
I just finished the show and it was absolutely amazing. I cried like a lil baby. I love their chemistry and the way his hand shook when he touched his lips. That felt real. They are such great actors. I can’t believe people are so mad. My lil heart is broke but excited for the 3rd ☺️
season 3 is going to personally kill me off and I am going to thank it 🙏🙏🙏
Loved the video!
👏👏👏
I don't watch the good omens, I am here from the 100 fandom and this is so on point
thank you!! 🖤🖤
i absolutely love this period of time between the angst and the resolution!! is a time we will never get back after good omens ends and as fans we all should cherish it!
🤌🤌🤌
The crazy thing is viewers want to get what they want now--even when it means that there's no hope of doing what needs to be done later. They want the happy ending from the beginning on. Which is insane. "Give me my resolution, and then some more of my resolution, and still more of my resolution! Give me celebrations at Gondor, and spare me both the trip through Mordor and the sadness at the Grey Havens."
That's not a story. So we are sad now--and may even be sad in the end. But neither overrules getting happy in the crucial moments. I just want Aziraphale and Crowley to get to explore loving each other, and to be happy together. I am willing to put up with sadness along the way, as Neil tells the story he and Terry dreamed of.
truer words were never spoken 🤌💜
this is an incredible video, as a person apart of many fandoms it can so quickly go wrong.
💛💛💛💛
I felt more heartbroken after season 1, thinking that was it. Might also be because I'm now in different circumstances personally.
(The moment I actually found most difficult to watch was that one on stage. I felt so awkward, I paused the episode for more than an hour.)
I also got warned by my sister in advance, my reaction eventually was 'let me feel miserable' (aka, distract me from rl please).

Thank you for this it's definitely needed for those not respecting his boundaries. He's such a sweet person
Thanks for this. I deeply hope people get your message.
thank you!!
💛💛💛💛💛
Thanks for the vid!
thank you for watching it!!
AGREEEEEED 🖤🖤🖤🖤
This is an INCREDIBLE video, I'm so excited to explore your other videos!!!
There's so many languages in the world and you decided to speak with FACTS. ❤️
😍😍😍
I love everything about this video and agree! Also thank you for acknowledging that it's ok for ace characters to kiss.
💛💛💛
