I know this is an old video so you may already know this by now but if you coat the tree cut in a glossy finish (maybe thinned out so to keep the detail) and THEN get a mold from it, the mold form will leave a shiny finish and your projects from the mold will thus also be shiny! :) I've seen this on people who make pieces in 3D printer and then make molds from them; I always see them use a glossy top coat of something like "Diamond Glaze" before creating the mold. It works like a dream! If you didn't know before, now you do! Lol ♥
EDIT: After leaving my comment I realize you were talking about how the putty itself leaves a dull finish. I'm sorry I completely overlooked that before! but with your usual mold-making method, the tip should work. lol

I’ve found that you have to have your putty wide enough and deeper than your piece, so when you press your item down into it, it goes down evenly and the bottom of the mold isn’t too thin. I only press until the bottom side of my object is level with the putty which makes for a neater pour and a lot easier to unmold with no cracking. I hope that makes sense and helps.

There are multiple people who sell the exact same molds. It was pointed out in a well known resin artist facebook group recently. They showed “her mold” was the exact same one that at least three others were selling, they even were using the same pictures on the “ad” or description for them 🤦‍♀️. Sure opened my eyes as to what is going on in the mold selling world. Apparently you can purchase and resell as “yours”. But I guess if you think about it people buy and sell products every day and take their cut. After looking into it multiple major companies are selling the exact same molds packaged with their name on it.

@@glitznglitterbymichelle1Hate to burst bubbles but the rubber art stamp world went through the same thing about IP about 30 + years ago. It ended up costing a lot of little guys everything. Often when you see anything sold with the same pictures they are made by the same company and sold by different sellers. Some who claim they are the original but are not. You see them online in places like Temu where factories sell overruns really cheap, from orders they had for businesses on sites like Amazon.
It’s sad to see that a new crafting generation is going to have to learn the same hard lessons again.
For those who don’t know IP means intellectual property. I make something. I can sell the rights to that thing to a company to make millions of them, who sell them to thousands of companies to sell retail. No one else has the right to take one of them and make copies to sell or give away.
Besides. Why buy that expensive putty to make a mold of something you can buy the mold of for around $1.94 on Temu? Not cost effective.
Stampers can’t legally make cards or other artworks with stamps without written permission from the company who owns the rights to it. FOR SALE. It’s called theft of IP. In some countries it can land you in jail. And/or in civil court losing everything you have. Not worth it to me.

Really the more I watch you try and use the putty the less I like it. That is so hard and stiff. Maybe flat items like the coaster but anything else I wouldn't use it.
Make the turtle with the pourable silicone. I have had a thing for turtles in the last 10 years or so. I think it's just homesickness. I see a sea turtle and my mind whispers honu.

Update: The cleaning tool turned out great! I just had to use a file on one of the outer prongs because I did not realize that when I made the impression, I didn’t press it down as evenly as I thought. Think I prefer the liquid silicone too. Gives a shinier mold. But these are cute too and work great for coasters. Anything with intricate definition needs the liquid. I’ve a statue I want to do in the liquid but it’s porcelain and I’m afraid some areas would snap off as it’s delicate she was quite pricey too I think it would have to be done in two parts and then assemble it.
