    Steve Merry (piano/synths) from BE’LAKOR about Coherence:
    "We're excited to share this album after five years of quite intense work on it. It's pushed us in many ways. Coherence has two of our longest ever songs; it has some really substantial instrumental tracks; it's heavy and progressive in places, but still full of the melody that drives our work. The album's lyrics also explore quite different ideas to those of our earlier albums. We look forward to working with Napalm Records on this release and sharing this music with our fans!"

    • @starklife1
      @starklife1 2 роки тому +4

      I mean saying they are unrivaled is kind of a stretch, I do feel that they have their own place in the genre though and are of a unique sound that sets them apart and different from the rest, in that respect they are peerless.

    • @praveen25
      @praveen25 2 роки тому +7

      @@starklife1 I don't think it's a stretch - name one other melodeath band that can deliver at this level of consistency when it comes to composition, lyrics, vocals and melodic complexity. I can't think of a single track in their entire discography that I dislike. The first time I heard of them was on "An Ember's Arc" and I'd never been as absolutely blown away as I was with that track. And it didn't stop there! The entirety of Vessels maintains the same level of excellence, and that's quite remarkable. There are great melodeath bands out there for sure, but Be'lakor is miles ahead. Of course, that's just my opinion, from having heard bands like Insomnium, Dark Tranquility, Omnium Gatherum, Opeth, etc.

    • @starklife1
      @starklife1 2 роки тому +3

      @@praveen25 I feel like in the genre artists just go miles in different directions, not necessarily miles ahead. I am not trying to dispute how great be'lakor is they're awesome. I don't think I'd want to compare other bands in the genre to them, so much as I'd encourage people not to see the genre as black and white everyone knows insomnium, be'lakor, dark tranquillity. There are good things about each of these bands, unique things that set them apart, but the common denominator of their parent genre, and the odds that if you like one you will probably like the other bring them together.
      I said this in another comment before, there are many clones of the genre leaders, you'll have many melodeath artists who sound like other artists, then you have bands like be'lakor who sound like be'lakor, and if you hear a new song from them you'll know it's special or that it could be them before even confirming that it is them.
      So when I say unrivaled is a stretch what I mean is that be'lakor is not the only band in melodeath that is in a league of its own like this.
      The lyricism of dark tranquillity imho is in a league of its own.
      Insomnium's melodies have probably inspired half the artists in the genre. (As familiar as they have become over two decades later) their consistency and their being a figurehead in the genre set them apart as well.
      There may not be that many artists that are as unique as be'lakor but they are there, and while beauty is in the eye of the beholder I see them as rivals, or equals, in that they hold their own special place in the genre.

      @@starklife1 I hear you and appreciate where you are coming from. Music is very subjective, as are opinions. There are many great melodeath bands and some very overrated melodeath bands, in my subjective opinion. Be’lakor has continued to progress when most bands stagnate and begin to sound repetitive at this point in their creative life. Insomnium is a perfect example of stagnation as they had an amazing run of influential, impressive, and unique releases but have begun to falter. Again, this is my opinion and I am sure many would disagree.
      Regarding my point that Be’lakor is unrivaled, I stand by it. Their songwriting artistry and woven tapestries of sound cannot even be fairly compared to any other artist in the genre. They are in a class of their own. Maybe they deserve their own subgenre, much like Agalloch deserves their own.
      I’d like to throw this out there to show my appreciation for diversity in the genre given the following short list covers a broad spectrum of styles. The best melodeath bands, in order, would be Be’lakor, Insomnium, Wolfheart, At the Gates, Aetherian. Again, my opinion.
      You mentioned Dark Tranquility and here's another opinion, that will probably spark a melodeath war of words: Dark Tranquility and Omnium Gatherum are extremely overrated and I do not understand their popularity. I’ve listened to many albums of both bands but nothing in their music moves me or grabs my attention. If you could point me to some specific releases or songs that truly deserve merit, please do. I would love for my mind to be changed as there must be something I am missing.

Sincerely looking forward to this hitting my Bandcamp page on release. Preordered it within days of its being listed. Be'Lakor are just outstanding in their songsmithing. The vocal shifts are perfectly placed; the riffs and tempo shifts are crisp and engaging. The song draws you in and carries you forward. This is my first taste of this long-running Aussie Death Metal band, and it's an impressive introduction. Very sophisticated, with that curious combination of growling over highly melodic quality musicianship, structured prog-style, making it a very atmospheric piece. What particularly jumped out at me was the superb production - well done whoever mixed this - you can hear every note from everything - very clear crisp sound, and the effect through quality headphones is awesome. If you're in a serious metal mood, this is the tune for you. My Score: very good 4*

    "The Frail Tide" released in 2007, then "Stone's Rech" in 2009, between which there was a two year gap.
    Next released "Of Breath and Bone" in 2012, which had a 3 year gap period between it and the previous album.
    "Vessels" released in 2016, which had a 4 year gap.
    Now "Coherence" will release this year, leaving a 5 year gap between it and "Vessels".
    Next album 2027 then?

      Perfection doesn't always take time. There are many examples throughout history of creative genius striking hard and fast. Generally speaking if you take your time and give it your all, the finished product will be better than if you hadn't, but taking extra time doesn't necessarily guarantee high-quality or wide-spread appeal.

    • @jonathancapella1853
      @jonathancapella1853 2 роки тому

      @@databloom70 I absolutely agree perfection and creative genius do not always take time but quality music cannot be consistently and rapidly churned out. That is the point I was trying to make. I cannot think of a single band that has been able to rapidly release (an album once a year or every couple of years) new material without falling in to repetition and subpar (based on their previous discography) compositions.

      Please do not compare the incomparable.
      This has nothing to do with the commercial Insomnium (especially) and Omnium Gatherum (despite that I like them)... but Belakor is another world another genre another planet another thing ...
      I think what reminds you of them is the video clip of nature not the music... Don't mix between them too ...
      Please do not compare Gods with their servants.
