I am also born in Italy and I love my country of Italy but just because you are used to the problems you should not get defensive about because stating the truth is called tough love, I believe that Italians are the best in the world "WHEN" they want to be but it can also be seen as disorganized organization, instead of being defensive go on the offense and do positive things that would make Italy the greatest country in the world as it once was, take the criticism with an educated mind because there are no such things as problems only solutions. Have a positive and productive day. God bless

Interesting video. I was a few times in italy as a kid and I remember the taste of the ham and the bread. It`s something you can`t get in germany. Something I hate about germany is the quality of food, it`s not bad but it tastes boring, we have so much cheap meat with low quality and the cheese has no taste. Another thing is, people are not nice, even to family and friends you have a distance. It`s without love. People hate or don`t respect each other for no reason, like kids. I hate the winter in germany too, it`s too cold, I wait every winter for summer time but when it`s summer everybody is crying about the temperature, oh lord...

Ciao Vincenzo. Three years ago, my wife and I moved from Philadelphia to Piemonte. Both of us lived our entire lives in the US. Neither of us have any ancestors who were Italian. We chose Italy for our retirement because after travelling to many places, it was our favorite. I taught about the history of culture and gastronomy at a large university in Philadelphia. People who met me often asked about my favorite wine and food. When I spoke about my wine preferences, I would answer old style Barolo, to which they would often answer, oh, Italian. At that point I would explain that the phrase Italian wine or Italian food is meaningless because the fine and food of Italy as you go from town to town, even if they are only a few kilometers apart. This brings me (at last) to what I like most about Italy, and that is the way every place that has its own name has its own customs. traditions, wine, foods, combinations of herbs, and saint. Since we are retired, our best days are when we pick out a town on a map, get into the car and drive there. On our way, the one not driving will go onto the cellphone and research the town. By the time we get there, we will know which restaurant the most people like that serves the local specialty. We'll order the same wine every time, the one that is made closest to the restaurant, unless there is something else from nearby that is better. If it is not to crowded, we'll ask the server to bring over an extra glass, pour it for him or her, and ask about the history and culture of the town. The lunches last a long time, and usually the chef will come out of the kitchen by the end to share some secrets about the food. This is my dream retirement and I don't believe there is anywhere else in the world where it could have happened other than Italy.

As an Italian I must say that this is a really nice comment. And you are right about Italian food. Many abroad speak of "Italian food", but we should say that "Italian food" does not exist. Because Italian cuisine is so rich, so varied, so different from region to region, from area to area, from city to city, from small town to small town, from family to family, that say "Italian cuisine" you say everything, but do not say anything. Even for an Italian, traveling around Italy means constantly discovering new and exciting specialties that have never been seen before. It is always a surprise while traveling around Italy. And then go talk to those in the world who say… Italian cuisine = pizza and spaghetti. :)

@@aris1956 Thank you! To be fair, we have many advantages over regular tourists. It is different living in Italy than visiting Italy. We have established friendships and became involved in peoples' lives. We have been invited to weddings, funerals, and christenings, holidays and birthdays. We took the COVID lockdown and used our having to stay hpme and learned how to speak Italian online. We would not have experienced most of these things had we not learned Italian. They don't even call me, "il americano anymore! We love in a town of 18,000 in Piemonte and we never walk around town without meeting someone we know. The Piemontese have a reputation for not being warm and welcoming, but for us, that has not been the case. We know we are the strangers here, but we are dedicated to become friends and neighbors. We make American dinner for our local Red Cross volunteers once a month and I teach our neighbors and their kids English for free. We have a beautiful life here!

My dad came here in 1987 from Italy and worked really hard but the way things are looking, I'm thinking of pulling a reverse uno card and retiring there bc I just can't imagine a good quality of life here anymore. Best of luck to you!

@@villaintina5522 Hi Tina! I grew up in northeast Philly and lived there until I finished high school (Northeast 1969). It changed a lot after I moved, but O spent a lot of time there through the years because many of my school friends stayed there their whole lives so far. I like northeast Philly a lot not only because of my friends and my memories of growing up, but in the 20 years or so before we left three years ago, the area developed a diverse and high quality ethnic food scene that I loved. I wish we had that kind of diversity here, but we don’t. I Abe the choices we had in Philly. Our food from here and the towns nearby is delicious, but if I want good Chinese or Indian food I have to drive an hour to go to Torino. We source a lot of authentic ingredients and enjoy cooking so we are able to fill the void. It is a quibble, not a problem. Good luck, and explore northeast Philly dining! Buon appetito!

I’m born in the US with US and Italian citizenship. I travel to Italy (mainly Sicily) for work on occasion and always go for pleasure when I can. I lived in Spain years ago and I had this same love-hate relationship with it (for many of the reasons you feel about Italy). I always wanted to visit more and more countries, but now I find myself being content with just revisiting Italy for now. Given that it’s a fairly young country, just 150 years old, it truly is like so many little countries in one. Of course, Sicily feels like home to me. My family is from all over Trapani province, which I always consider sort of the armpit of Italy but the people make it so lovely. What I love about being in Italy is how I feel. Just like you say, I feel alive. My health and body heal. I relax. I reset. People and their warmth and love and respect are as nourishing as the food. It’s no wonder many Italian immigrants often went back to Italy to recover quality of life and heal. There are certainly many important problems that you mentioned. But when it comes to the soul, it can be free when I’m there. I remember the first time I landed in Sicily after my whole life hearing about it and imagining it from being close to my Sicilian American family. It felt so comfortable and like home. It was even more magical than I could’ve imagined. Driving across the island, from the switchbacks up Etna to Taormina with rolling thunderstorms on the Ionian Sea, to the blazing sunsets at the saline in Marsala, and the Greek temples of Agrigento looming over the Mediterranean-it all reaches to a special place in the soul that nothing else can reach.

Thank you for sharing your love for Italy, it truly is a unique country with so much to offer! The beauty of Italy extends beyond its food and landscapes, it's also in the warmth and hospitality of its people. It's wonderful to hear that you feel at home in Sicily and that you have a special connection to your family's roots. 🇮🇹

    Vincenzo, You nailed it!
All four of my grandparents were born on Italy. Since the 1980’s, we have visited all of my cousins in the Marche. In 2005, after two years of searching, we bought a condominium in a 6 family building in Tuscany. All local families. We travel back and forth from the Boston area, USA to our home in Italy. Our town in Italy is small. A lot of old traditions. We have made so many close friends over the years. Invited to confirmations, birthdays, pizza parties, meals in Italian homes and in local restaurants. We feel the best in Italy. The USA is so stressful! It’s simply the best place for quality of life. Period.

They don't queue, they hog the sidewalk with no regard for people trying to get around them, they have loud hand-waving conversations in places they should be quiet, and generally act like they own the place when they go somewhere. I'm an American that now lives in Italy with my family. I agree with most of what you said about the negatives (with particular emphasis on the politics!). However, I will add that it is highly dependent on where you are. I live in Friuli and when I compare it to when I used to live in Sicily, it's like another country. The way they drive is not nearly as aggressive and chaotic. Things, in general, are not as chaotic. People actually respect the lines here! Italy overall is an amazing place to live and I can't imagine living anywhere else now. Did you move to Italy permanently?

As an Asian, I find the Italian cultures and traditions share a lot in common to ours. Italy is a beautiful country with distinct culture, and though I had some sad experience of my first time in Rome, I still want to return to explore different places of Italy. The food is unmatched, I don't like pizza anywhere else except in Italy, even the one bought at a random train station tastes so good. People are warm and kind, I love how fashionable Italians are, honestly, the best of best, the way they dress make life much more beautiful. I don't live there so I can't comment about the cons, but the traffic is a bit mad in Rome haha, the cars don't stop as you said.

I loved the experience to be there, but most people I encountered seemed destraught, too envolved or just upset. I ate at al Donatelo's twice because it was so good and very welcoming to have us. The morning I had to fly back home, there were 18 booths set up in the piazza in front of our hotel. The smell from the bolognese being prepared, made me want to stay. In my broken italian and american english I asked what was happening. "It is just another political rally, they happen all the time." I hope to take my Wife for a visit to Bologna in a year or two.

Allright. Im telling what i hatte and what i Love. First what I hate: I hate the politics. Some would say we have a great politics but the truth ist that some politics didnt do the right thing. Some decissions taking so long that many people vote some let just say interesting people. What I also hate is bureaucracy. They taking it very seriously. But some time if you have all they papers that they want they say No to your need or worse they check if something is missing something like you dont have and then reject your issues. What i hate is the help fir Refugees. Dont get me wrong. It's great that we are helping them but there is a living issue and many people are homeless because of the appartment application rule. Even the people who are born and raised in Germany have that issue. Think about you applying for abjob you Like but they found a better person so is that for appartments. What i hate the most is infaltion issue right now. One big brain thought we Invest in the russian oil company and now with that war oil increased in prize and grocery increased in prize. So everything is more expensive for example one Mozzarella Ball would cost usually 39 cents. Now it cost around 1 Euro or more. Now we have to Look now what we buy for Dinner. And that is what makes me sad. I hope they find a solution for this mess to set everything to normal.
Now to the Part what I Love: I Love to bei born and raised in Germany with a great organisation. Everything is orderly and we have a amount of municipalities to Help the people. Then i Love the people around Here. We have 16 different segments who talk a different dialect and learn from them what you call for things that in the normal German language exists. What i also love is our History. Dont get me wrong. What the Nazis die was terrible but WE learn about that. Every school learn about our History and how we found the right Type of government. First we got a Jigsaw Puzzle government than an emperor who ruled to 1917 because of the 1. WorldWar he was forced to abdicate and leave into the Exile. Than we had a dictator which lead us in the 2. WorldWar and was put down by the four allies USA, France, Great Britain and Russia. Than we had a West and an east government because of the wall which cuts four segments away from them West and in Berlin itself was the wall to. After the wall dropped down we have since that day a united government in Germany. Our History is full of interesting Stories and WE are proud to learn that in schools. And the most i Love is our traditional Events. We have carnival, a parade of some witches or Monsters or anything Like that. Around february there are parades who people dressed up to Welcome the spring. Thats a tradition to Drive away the winter spirits. I Love our most known folk festival in the world our oktoberfest. Many people who visits their have dressed up their traditional clothing and i love the different variety in the Woman clothing.
Some would propaply ask me if im proud of our beer. Im proud WE have that but im Not a drinker of beer so it's an oppinion for everyone who loves to drink it.
I'm glad that i live Here in that country and I could never Imagine to leave my beloved country behind

It appears the socialism in Australia has distorted your view of reality. If you could gather up the courage to travel to Asia you would change your mind. If you went to India for example, you would see what driving in crowded cities is really like and as a bonus you might even get a glimpse of authentic Indian cuisine, which is arguably the healthiest and the best in the world.
In India and other South Asian countries avoiding "tourist traps" is easy. Just eat where the locals eat and you'll have the best food you can get. As for variety of food in different regions of the country, there is no greater variety than in India.

well, the purpose of my video was not to compare Italy to other countries, I am simply saying what I love and hate about Italy! it is obvious that there are countries with the same aspects (whether they are better or worse) that I have listed!

Dude Australia has been ruled by conservatives for quite some time until recently. What you call "socialism" is just people exhibiting common sense and officials doing their job!

You missed my absolute favorite thing to come from Italy - I love it even more than the amazing regional wines and foods: the music of Claudio Monteverdi! Vincenzo, please, if you’ve not listened to Monteverdi’s music, it’s as sad as cooking Gordon Ramsay’s bolognese!

Oh, I'm glad you enjoy Claudio Monteverdi's music! It's amazing how music and food can both bring joy to our lives. If you have any favorite Monteverdi pieces, please recommend them to me. 🎶🍽️
