Oh god, I still have that comic... and all the other Archie Sonic game adaptation comics before Sonic Adventure. Unfortunately, all the ones I've read followed the same formula - a rushed story barely using any elements from the game followed by some other story, using beautiful art for the covers and generic (sometimes bad) art for the interior. Even though most of them were 48-page specials, they didn't use all 48 pages for the game adaptation. Some of them would use 1-or-2-page spreads to show Sonic running through every stage of the game rather than tell a story about him progressing through them, as if to get the fanservice out of the way. It really felt like the Archie team was forced to do those adaptations and just wanted to get them over with. Maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, even without a detailed story from Sega or Sonic Team, they could've used more of the backgrounds and badniks from the games in those comics. Anyway, good review.
American Sonic media (and really, the whole first wave of video game adaptations in the 80s/90s) was written by boomers who hadn't grown up with games, or even really played them. They watched their kids play the games on the TV and just saw a bunch of abstract nonsense, totally detached from it. They didn't insert themselves into the experience and imagine what sort of story was happening like younger fans did. So they relied heavily on tropes and references from their own adolescence and tacked it in top of what they were adapting. Hence, they had no way to incorporate the games organically into their stories.
Funny than that the 2 earliest ones were done in the main Book and while certainly not perfect did use a hell of a lot more of the games to work with that being the Sonic Spinball and Sonic CD adaptations (with CD even getting some fantastic art)

America: KNUCKLES OWNS THE CHAOTIX.
I did like that Dynamic between Sonic and Knuckles. They hated each other for the most pettiest of reasons.
Now I think you have to tackle the biggest part of Knuckles in the Archieverse. His huge backstory and of course his own ultimate villain, Enerjak.

This is the perfect example of how only a few tweaks in a design can completely ruin something
I Like to Think that the Mirror Bunnie was Looking at was just a plain normal Mirror and She was just disappointed on the inside.
3:52 Is it wrong that I want to see Chris Hansen V Predator now?
Chris - "Have a seat over there "
Predator- * Laughs and mutters something unintelligible in alien language and activates nuke on his arm and the timer starts to tick down
HERE HE COMES, ROUGHER THAN THE REST OF THEM
It's just 30 minutes of coping and I love it
This was the only comic from Archie I read in full back in Elementary school. Never had any near by comic shops, and the only site I knew that talked about t he comics showed previews and not whole issues. I think it was my 4th Grade teacher that had them?
And Vector was at least in one of the previous Knuckles stories, with no introduction, just as a buddy to bounce off of in the last few pages
I just noticed how much Ken Penders' art style looks like early drawn webcomics. It has that charm of, "Well they aren't the best but they are trying hard and it at least has some level of skill"
Except he was paid big money for that
wtf
I have to point out that only because Ken wrote the thing doesn't mean he also draw it.
In fact most stories he did draw look significantly worse.
Should have got an Archie fan for this. I loved the Chaotix.
This was hilarious! Well worth the wait. 👏🏻
Great video dude. It is too bad that people miss a lot of the great stuff in the Archie Sonic comics. To me, issues 160-230 are absolutely fantastic. Stories like Birthday Bash, King Scourge, Enerjak Reborn, Eggman Empire, Thicker than Water, Genesis, the list goes on. That’s not even mentioning the Sonic Universe stuff, or some of the great pre-Flynn stories like Mecha Madness, Super Sonic VS Hyper Knuckles, Sonic vs Metal Sonic in issue 25, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really weird, and absolute garbage (Sonic Super Special 15). But I think people overlook some of the great characterization, great artwork (Patrick Spaziante, Ben Bates, Tracy Yardley, etc) and great stories.
Nick screaming is something that I absolutely love. It sounds like he's mad but he doesn't want to wake the neighbors.
