      I recently built Raskolnikov's Plus-Size AT-AT and it's a very good build. I decided to build that first over yours just because I only needed $70 worth of parts that I didn't have, but I'm definitely going to build yours in a year or two. I prefer your moc to the UCS, especially since it has working lights.

    You know I never realized how scary the AT-AT walking sounds are. When you watch the movie you’re captivated by the visuals but just hearing the audio, imagine the enemy approaching your position and hearing that.

    • @BAUFmanBricks

      It’s funny you mention that. When I was editing the video it kinda reminded me of Jaws approaching. It’s a very menacing sound

    • @wesandell
      @wesandell 3 місяці тому +1

      It's a great example of how sounds in movies are so important. We often don't really notice it in the moment, but they really are an essential part of the experience of watching movies. Just think about the sounds of the doors closing then zooming in on Leia's face, thinking about Han and Luke out in the freezing snow all alone. And the door sounds almost almost give this feeling of anticipation and then they finally close and then Chewy roars. Sound design is sooo important in movies.

    As someone who has recently gotten back into Lego, I'm in awe of these massive sets they are putting out but also find them to be too impractical for their size. I love the scale you are choosing to highlight and build. Also super cool to see actual star wars scenes interspersed throughout the video.

      I agree, "play scale" is great, but it often lacks some details. But, UCS sets are often just too massive to be practical. This mid-UCS scale he has is a great middle ground with great detail, but also not overwhelming.

    The AT-AT has always been my favorite Star Wars vehicle. I bought the original set as a kid and built my own minifig scale version a couple years before the official one released.

I'm also looking into building a snowspeeder and so far I've seensome nice ones in rebrickable but I'll wait to see what you conjure up since your X-wing is the best design and size I've seen and the jewel of my starfighter collection. You can compare sizes of your Millennium Falcon with the AT-AT, by using the proportions of the Ghost landing on the top of an AT-AT in Rebels. The Ghost and the Millennium Falcon are similar sizes and it looks pretty close to me. The Ghost was about the same length as the AT-AT when it landed on top of the platform if I recall. Yours might be just a little bit bigger scale, but still pretty close. Also, Rastolav(sp)'s AT-AT is really awesome. I built it myself a long time ago and love it. So much better than the play scale versions that Lego makes.

    • @BAUFmanBricks

      I haven’t started on an AT-ST though I have done some research in the past. I am definitely going to build one and have a wish list of making it shorter, fitting two drivers, and having articulating legs… although I am unsure if that is all accomplishable. Fantastic work as usual. I love how you incorporate movie scenes into your videos. I have built the playscale Lego version and the Mould King version of the AT-AT. My biggest fear for AT-AT models is stability. The MK Model which is based on a MOC looked fantastic at nearly 7k pieces. But the stability and the way the legs were attached was not great. It was just to heavy for the legs. This one looks much sturdier from your video. Maybe Ill give it a try.

    • @BAUFmanBricks
      @BAUFmanBricks  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! I didn’t mention it, but the feet have rubber wheels for grip support on the bottom just like the UCS version. You have to be careful when moving it around as it is easy to have the legs slide past the point stability, but overall it’s very well constructed.

    UCS AT-AT has to be one of the toughest builds to get right in lego. Like you said, it is known for its size and scary presence in the movies. I think that is one of the main things that makes it so awesome. However to achieve that size in lego, it get's very heavy and means you need to balance the large body and especially the head on such skinny legs to also get the look right.
    The official UCS AT-AT is very good, but the legs are too think in my opinion. It has maybe the best interior and maybe the strongest of these other builds.
    The brickvault version by richboyjhae is very good in proportions and interior but unfortunately quite fragile.
    The cavegod AT-AT is very good in looks, but again fragile, stronger I think than brickvault, and actually too big for minifig scale.
    This AT-AT looks great, has a great interior, seems strong enough, but back the start of my comment is not big enough (for my likes at least haha)
    I would love to see an AT-AT that checks off all the boxes
    - proportions
    - strength
    - interior
    - minifig scale
    Maybe this is an impossible task...

    Honestly think this looks better than the UCS version for one simple reason: the thickness of the body. The UCS version has way too thin of a body. It's flush with the legs when it's supposed to protrude. IMO this makes its profile look more like a dog while this version looks like a true tank.

    Hey, BAUFmanBricks, would you consider having a look at the Stinger Mantis MOC by Dan Ford Johnson? I feel like it's a fairly underrated moc of an interesting ship that i think fits within your scale, and could maybe use your extra attention to detail, like you did with the AT-AT? The instructions for it are free as well on Rebrickable. Thanks in advance!

      I think @2bricks Mantis is more in line with my scale. The Mantis is a larger ship and I think very comparable to my Falcon with similar piece counts. Dan’s is a great playscale set, but I think it is shrunk down a bit too much. I haven’t crunched the numbers but just looking at it seems to be around 1/100 scale which I think would be a bit too small, kind of like the recent Ahsoka T-6 shuttle

      @@BAUFmanBricks Thanks for the quick reply! :D I see what you mean, it does feel a little bit small and I'm a huge fan of 2Bricks, and i do think his mantis might be the best, but i got the feeling the mantis was that much smaller than the falcon, hence my suggestion, since i feel like Lego would be more likely to make something closer to Dan's than to 2Bricks' design (Along with it probably being cheaper to get than 2Bricks' design XD). I was also mentioning it since we are going to get the new playscale ISD with Cal Kestis, and i wanted to get an opinion as to which of the two to get (other than my own).
      In any case, thanks for your input once again! I just got the 2019 Millenium Falcon and will be getting your MOC instructions for it soon! Keep up the good work, love the way you edit your videos!! :D

      Oh and BTW I have not played Fallen Order (although I am sure I would love it) so I am not an expert on the source material in this instance and haven’t crunched the numbers. I just got the sense that the Mantis is a small frigate ship similar to the Falcon which I could be incorrect about

      @@BAUFmanBricks Ah fair enough! If you ever play them you should do a stream! I would watch it at least! XD I investigated a bit after i replied and i think the mantis is slightly longer than the falcon, so 2bricks' version is absolutely more accurate size-wise, at least when compared to the 2019 falcon XD Dan's is about the same length as the force awakens falcon. (It's in one of the 2 or 3 reviews of Dan's model on youtube XD)

    Is there any lego sets you consider to already be perfect for your scale and how you'd want it to look?

    • @BAUFmanBricks
      @BAUFmanBricks  6 місяців тому

      I assume official Lego, not MOCs? Good question, none that I can think of that are perfect... The TIE Bomber is pretty good like I mention in my Interceptor video. The newest desert skiff might be really close but I haven't done any measurements or had it in hand yet. The 20th anniversary Slave 1 is excellent, but just needed some modifications as I show in my video of it. Typically Lego isn't going to detail their ships to my standards. Typically their small starships are going to be too big and their large ones too small. They have to keep price and piece count down to make them sell well to a wide audience. Their designers have their arms tied behind their backs making it appealing to the masses while I appeal to a small segment of mostly adults. I noticed there is a large gap between playscale and UCS and I try to fill it - I don't think Lego is interested in the kind of standards I set, though I am sure their designers could fill it.

    when I was younger, around 10 or 11 years old, I really really wanted to have the LEGO AT-AT, LEGO Millennium Falcon, and the LEGO Death Star. Now that Im 20, I can safely say. I still wish I got these sets growing up. I cant find these sets anywhere anymore, and the only places I can are from resellers who add a couple hundred to the price tag because they're "discontinued" or something. Maybe some day I'll own a LEGO AT-AT, Death Star, and Millennium Falcon.

    Well, in my opinion, it is almost UCS Play Scale. Yes it is big, but as you showed it at 13:07 and explained during the video, the playscale version is way too small. On the other side, the UCS version is too oversized. So yes, 18" seems to be a good compromise.

    • @BAUFmanBricks
      @BAUFmanBricks  6 місяців тому +2

      Ya, crunching the numbers may not exactly line up with my UCS playscale projection but the most important part is passing the eye-test. I knew the playset needed a boost in size because even at 13” the playset isn’t even 1/78 scale, it’s larger than my UCS playscale projection at 1/66.

    • @Delerane
      @Delerane Місяць тому

      @@NicoCdawg Well, according to Wookipedia, an AT-AT is 22,5m tall. Which mean, at 1:42 scale (the closest to the minifig scale) approximatively 56 bricks tall (I personnaly use 5 brick to represent 2m). In that way, it should be about 54cm tall (5 bricks = 4,8cm).
      The UCS AT-AT is 62cm tall, 115% of the size it should be, according to my calculations. It is closer to 1:36 scale I guess.
