    I initially roll the wool like you and also use the needle to secure it. then I'll take an even simpler route. I throw the balls into very hot, soapy water, squeeze them out a little and then put them in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes. they become perfectly round and firm. Then I wash it out (otherwise the wool will start to break down over time). then squeeze it out and set it aside to dry. You can do this with all sizes

      That is a GREAT idea!!!! I love the idea to use the dryer, you could make so many more this way. But thankyou for the tip to rinse out afterwards. Thanks for sharing :)

      Hi Terri, I used a basic dove soap. I know there are special olive oil soaps you can buy to do this but I just decided to use what I had. Happy creating!

    I bought a thousand 2 cm felt balls from Napal. They are nice and firm and great quality but when I received them they were 2.7 cm. 2 cm to 2.7 cm is a huge difference for the project I'm working on. Will you be my savior and help me with a solution on how I can resize these to 2 cm? 🙏🏼🤞🏼

    Thank you for the video, I wonder why my felt balls has a line gap on them, like a folding line? I’m I doing something wrong?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  4 роки тому +1

      Sometimes I will end up with one ball with cracks. Make sure the roving is pulled thin before you roll it and then roll the ball as tight as you can with your fingers first it will help avoid the big cracks. Also when rolling the last section i try to spread it around the ball. I find the chance for deep cracks lesson this way. If you still end up with a small crack you can massage it out with the warm soapy water and rub it with your fingers during the rolling process. But alas....sometimes you will get a stubborn one and then I just move on😉 the more you make the easier it gets! I promise💜

    Can you do a tutorial on how to make smaller ones? like .5 or 1 centimeter balls?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 роки тому +1

      Great suggestion Ahsoka! But the tutorial wouldn't end up changing much. If you want smaller balls just weigh out less roving per ball and you can also roll them tighter to squish them into submission 😊😀 Hope that helps!

    I'm wondering if you could do a tutorial on velvet baubles for the Christmas tree? I believe they must be some kind of paint or something because I can't see a seam anywhere. Anyway I loved this tutorial and plan to try my hand at it. I'm just not clear why you want water in them. Doesn't it eventually evaporate? What happens then?
    Thank you,
    Gerry

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  Рік тому

      Sorry Gerry, I don’t do too much with felt these days. The water helps you get the felt ball to stay dense. Hope that helps.

      Water and soap, particularly hot/warm water, makes the rough surface of the individual fibers catch on one another and hold together. It's like accidentally washing a wool sweater on hot and having it shrink up on you in the wash. Once it's felted, the water is irrelevant.

    Hello , I want to know how many Gr of wool do I need for one felt ball?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I actually have no idea. As I went along I started to see the size I liked and then stuck to that amount of wool each time. But it was measured with my eyes so I can’t help you there. Sorry.

    I wanted to make some for m cat but im wondering where you use soap will it harm her?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  2 роки тому

      I don’t really know. The soap is used as you create the ball but then you rinse the soap out. But I don’t know anything about cats to tell you more. Sorry Sherry. I wish I could be more helpful.

      I have no idea. I did make some balls from a very loose yarn before. But I think it was still wool.
