Great video came across it after my dropper seat post became stiff and stuck. I also had the problem undoing the top as the shaft kept on spinning. Ended cleaning and greasing the inner cylinder from the bottom after removing the cover. This partial service surprisingly had a great result keeping my dropper seat post smooth for another 12 months until the first wet ride at the begging of this winter. So now done it for the second time. No problems at all. Save me time and money using simple tools no need for any replacement parts.
Fantastic video, but where can you get the rebuild kits? Your US distributors, Canada, nor Mexico have them listed or available. @N1k has been looking for these in Europe for 7 months. Please help your customers out
In my case, when torquing the last bolt at 10m15s in the video, the nut would engage and move down the threads but once the nylon thread lock engaged the threads, the cartridge started spinning and I could not seat the nut. The center of the threaded shaft has a receiver for an hex key. I had to pass one through the socket hole to hold the shaft in place then turn the socket by holding it from the outside with a vice grip. I wrapped the socket with tape so as to not damage it. It would have benefited from anti rotation feature from the inside. I'm also questioning the seal design and it requires a strap wrench to torque and un-torque. The OneUp has little serrations that allows untorquing by hand. I had to drive to a bike shop to borrow their strap wrench. The major selling point of the Manic and OneUp droppers is that they use a cartridge and can be maintained at home. But this implies the use of standard tool. I would not qualify a strap wrench as a standard tool that every biker has it its shed. The one from the kitchen for the jars and the one for the car oil filter did not work in my case. Great video. Very helpful. Thanks for posting.
Great video, helped me strip, clean and re-grease my post! Back to feeling like new, despite being 3 years and 2500 miles old! Not sure how much longer the cartridge will last but it is still performing well!
Thanks for an awesome video!! Is there any reason we need to use a pin spanner instead of just using an adjustable crescent wrench to loosen the activator assembly/cartridge?
I was able to get the main seal off by running it under boiling water, then quenching it with cold water. Then I placed the post back in the bike and tightened the seat post clamp on the bike. I then used a rubber adjustable spanner and a quick twist. It loosened right up.
Hello, My xfusion manic has a cartridge with an air valve on it, now my dropper is having problems. the dropper doesn't want to rise and fall when it's occupied, does adding wind make it normal again?
Can you adjust the air pressure on this dropper post? My wife's post is far too difficult for her to compress as she is quite light. I cannot find the manual online as the X Fusion website appears to be down...
Ive only had my Stumpy for 3 months, I dont use the dropper all that often , When i press to drop, It doesent go down, Ive cleaned, Lubed, Surely its not goosed already.
they're not designed to drop without you putting pressure ( sitting down ) on it, they should only extend when you press the lever. However, mine doesn't even do that and it's brand new :(
Mine’s the same. But only if you push on the rear of the saddle. Pushing on the front goes alright. I suspect it’s the bushes, but as per all the other comments in here, I can’t find a service kit anywhere.
Great video. My X fusion post suddenly became very stiff to push down but still pops up quickly and smoothly. Probably had 150 hours use and gone through two English winters. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Same case with mine after maybe 75 hours of riding. This rebuild might solve it so it'll be worth the try. It would probably be a good idea for you to do this anyway after two English winters lol
you need all the strength with a strap wrench to break loose that seal head. It was incredibly tight, I was actually tearing the inner tube that I put around the strap wrench.
Great video, and all was going great until I'm 95% done and went to tighten the 10mm nut on the end of the shaft... it just spins the entire shaft assembly inside the post. No way to hold the shaft while tightening the nut. Any ideas???
My dropper won't extend without help, so I found this video. After watching the video, I discovered that I have a Gen 1 post, so I sent customer service an email. Their reply was to watch this video. Then they had a follow up saying to remove the activator and the outer tube would slide off. Nope, the seat clamp is in the way. Not sure how they designed a dropper post that couldn't be disassembled for cleaning and service, now I'm researching different dropper posts that are less disposable.
What to do if any of my tool is not able to unthread the seal head. Even if I do this with big lever. I hope it has the right-hand thread... I'm now doing it with the Plumber wrench with no luck...
Try a little heat with a heat gun. The anodizing from the seal head can bind with the anodizing on the lower tube and be very tight. Sometimes, applying a little heat will help to soften the bite and allow the seal head to spin free. When trying to spin the seal head free, you want to use a swift, firm motion; do not slowly try to tun. You want an instant type of force application similar to an impact wrench.
@@Dom6161 yes. I had to damage outer decals (sorry don't know how to describe it in english) in order to have a strong grip even with an old tube with the Plumber wrench. Prior to assembling back I applied grease the same way as it is usually done for bottom brackets or pedals. From my point of view it should have been tightened that much so I could unthread it with rubber gloves and a strong grip of my palm.
Hi fellow, great video. Are there any way to reduce the travel length? Cause I bougth a X Fusion Manic 31.6 - 150mm that, due to the total length and the curve of the seat tube is impossible to use. There are some videos on youtube that shows a stuff (Plastic tube) to reduce the length. Do you know if it is possible? Greetings from Brazil and tks in advance
Literally can't remove the nut at the top of the dropper post. I put pressure on the head just as he shows and It won't come out. Am I doing something wrong or has someone else had this issue? Also, I removed the activator assembly with the spanner wrench and my cartridge is backwards compared to the video. I can't pull it out because of the first issue but it seemed odd.
Did you figure it out? Having the same issue. I can unthread the bottom but the 10mm at the top just spins. Also, can't get the middle collar undone. Thinking of trying a heat gun.
@@insearchof_dirt I got the middle collar undone but with waaaaay too much effort. I used the bike clamp and gave it a couple hard and fast tugs with the tube wrench and it eventually broke free. I messaged them about the nut and they said bring it to a local repair shop, which I don't have. I found a video that the engineer who messaged me made though. He applied pressure to the top of the head when the post was fully depressed and was able to remove the nut. I tried doing this, even with two clamps applying pressure along the post and still apparently wasn't enough. Look up "titic huang dropper post" and you should find the video. Hello - so need to remove X-fusion manic dropper so I can put it in a case for air travel. Is there anything i should know when doing that. How should I secure the cable for travel. Any suggestions?
no, unfortunately the cartridge is a sealed unit. If it's soft or losing pressure it needs replacing. Make sure there is no tension on the cable, that can cause it slowly drop down too.
I have a brand new one that came with the Levo SL, however it sticks and needs pulling or sitting on to activate the lift.... any ideas? I've checked the tension at both ends of the cable and nothing seems to make this work as it should.
Sometimes it can simply be that your frame seat. Ollaris tightened up too much. Use a torque wrench, or by hand you'll want to tighten up a bit at a time until you find the problem tension point.
One year old @xfusionshox1999 Manic. Despite regular cleaning and greasing, the bushings have worn out the dropper stanchion. Also grease was dripping from the bottom of dropper post in the bike frame. Construction fault? Retailer in the Benelux sais it's no warranty. Bad product!?!
DO NOT tighten down that top nut past contact. If it doesn't want to come back off, you will have to shave it down with a Dremel tool next time you service the post. And then you need a new cartridge, as one must also shave down the nub it threads onto.
I was wondering this, so instead of the Pin Spanner, you just used an adjustable wrench to take the activator assembly/cartridge out? Just trying to avoid buying another tool haha
