In this new tutorial by flomotion you will learn all about the new 3D features in after effects beta.
At first I will show you how to install the beta version.
Then we will set up a scene 3d track it and add a transformer from Pacific Rim as well as King Kong and Godzilla fighting within 3d space as obj and glb files!
We will then set up a shadow catcher that only accepts shadow. And I will also show you how to tint the shadow in a sepecific color for example for motion graphics.
Next I will show you how to use 3d effects an compositons. 3D fog, 3D channel extract, 3d depth matte and also a depth matte to use as map for the camera lens blur!
I will show you how to use a depth map as luma matte for depth compositing.
Next we will set up an underwater shark scene all in 3D space and use the 3D fog effect to create ocean depth!

Last but not least I will show you how to create a 3D slice effect with a laser scan with the 3D depth matte effect
Shadow Catchers and Shadow Colors
Set a 3D layer to Accepts Shadows - Only to create a shadow catcher. This mode renders shadows cast by other 3D layers over an otherwise-transparent layer, allowing for the seamless integration of 3D objects into a 2D scene. Change Shadow Color on any 3D layer that accepts shadows to give your shadows a more natural or creative hue.
Advanced 3D Depth Map
Precompose an Advanced 3D scene to get access to its depth data via 3D Channel effects like Depth of Field.

I really appreciate the fact that for an advanced tutorial like this you skip the basic steps. If someone wanna do this kind of stuff the you must already know the basics. Kudos.

I think that if a tutorial is made for advanced features, like these, it should be written for advanced users, who definitely know how to import a footage for instance. While I see a lot of tutorials where they explain every single step as if they were talking to people who never opened After Effects. So again, I appreciate what you did and how you did it.

ok, you need an environment light and a 3d object (3D Layer or obj or glb file) where you have accept shadows enabled!
Within the advanced 3D render options in the Shadow settings, make sure that the casting box is around your object that you want to cast shadow. If you are not sure if this is the case simply click the button "Fit to Scene" and you should be good to go!

Yeah, but when was the last time Element 3D updated? Twice. As much as I loved Element 3D and it's gotten me through After Effects CS5 in 2014 with GTX 660, we're in 2024, it's not optimized for the newer cards like the RTX nor some of the workforce for AE2024. Does it still work? Definitely, can you get by with it? Yes, and that's the one thing good about it, that Andrew Kramer made a plug-in that can worked across all the different variants of AE, but like I said, it's 2024, I am working with an RTX 3080, I want Element 3D to keep up with it for a faster workfkow.
Yes but this one is included in AE without paying extra and like you said, it's new. So the hope is it will keep improving
Element 3d still has a slight advantage over the ae native 3d stuff. Especially if you bought element 3d several years ago when the 2nd update happened. Now its getting closer to where its probably better to wait for ae to update its 3d system if you havent bought element yet@AndresArosemena
