Your thumbnail showed a different picture so I tap on it to be taken to gun case project 🤷🏾♀️ where is the zipper book holder with handles showing in the thumbnail ~ that’s the project I’m 👀 for?
Well this SUCKS 😑😑, MADE zipper 36 inches and was short 😕 has to be atleast 52 inches , hope the next person making one reads my post or will be in my situation 😄😄, ALSO ONLY USE PLASTIC ZIPPER ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaron, love your videos, but why don't you show closeups? I would have liked to see how you got the closeup on the zipper halves, some of the zipper stitching on the Class26, and attaching the zipper to the gussets, etc. Thank you.
Lay down wax paper or parchment paper between the two glued pieces to keep them from sticking while you get everything lined up then just pull it out from in between the two. Like the backing on double sided tape.
I found that when adding Shearling, I have the best success by starting in the middle of my project. I have done a few of these pistol cases and found that the best method. Just my trick!
Try waxed paper and roll the lining up with it. Peel the waxed paper as you unroll and placement should be easier. If not waxed paper, plastic sheet cutting board.
I found that if I glue haft at the time stick it down then add glue the the other side work great for me for the sheep skin. Ok take double the time but I’m not working on my patience as much. Great project Brother.
Hey Aaron, great video, I always wanted to make a case but for a shotgun out of leather, even though you are making a pistol case the design can perfectly be adapted for a long gun, also you can make a single point harness strap for that D-ring, I think that will look awesome. Thank you
Hey aaron, i struggled with putting the pull on a zip for quite awhile, i watched a video that showed using a fork, so i grabbed one of the smaller salad forks (idk that's what the wife said when i asked for a fork) and used a clamp to hold it to my table, i put the zipper pull in between the tines and that freed up my two hands to line up the zip ends...it was amazing how much easier it was! Thanks for the project and really excited to see you and Don G. collaborating on projects!
I"m really excited to make this. I hand sew everything. What is best to do? Punch holes in the body then punch holes with an Awl? Thanks for great projects and video's
Hey Aaron. Do you think this project could be sewn with the class 4? Or is it to much machine? I just ordered a class 4. It will be my first machine I have a lot to learn about it’s limitations.
Just a tip. When I'm doing a zipper on a gusset I use a push pin and pin the zipper on one end. Then stretch it straight and put a push pin into my work surface on the other end. It holds the zipper straight while I'm taping the gusset to the zipper.
It may seem backwards, but, what if you laid the fleece face down and dropped the leather down from the top since it is stiff and more maneuverable than the floppy piece of fleece. Then you could possibly save the trimming until the end. That is If need be. That or possibly install the fleece in 2 pieces from the center.
to lay down the sheep wool, what i would do is lay down some wood dowels and place it on top for placement. then when i have it where i want to, i would start pulling dowels out and press into place.
Aaron, I know this is an older post so I'm not sure if I'll get a reply - But, I've read in several of the Stohlman Books to only use bark tanned shearling for any firearms case due to a chemical reaction between chrome tanned hides and gun bluing as well as synthetic sheepskin which retains moisture and thereby causes rust. Was this shearling colored bark tan or is this a fallacy ?.? Please enlighten me. I look forward to your reply, CW Peterson Grass Valley, California; USA
Tannages and gun coatings have changed a lot in the last 50 years. This is bark tanned shearling here but I've used lots of others and have not had issues.

Waste of leather and time, I really hope you fix this video
I had always figured the D-ring was for if you wanted to slap a padlock on it through the zipper pull
Aaron, love your videos, but why don't you show closeups? I would have liked to see how you got the closeup on the zipper halves, some of the zipper stitching on the Class26, and attaching the zipper to the gussets, etc. Thank you.
The reason is simple... I'm here alone and only have 1 camera.

Rats - You said at least 36” which I did but it should be 72” is you want one piece like you are doing in video/.
I wasted my efforts sewing the zipper and now have to do it over. Kind of disappointed.
Yup wish I read your comment 😕 same thing happened to me
THE TRIANGULAR PISTOL CASE CAN EASILY BE MODIFIED FOR A SLICE OF PIZZA, JUST IN CASE!

I personally like a few marks in my leathers. It gives it personality an shows it came from a living animal.

Exactly how I lay out mark & glue my shearling.... half at a time, while the other half is weighted down. Lot less struggle!

I think I read it in an Al Stohlman book to use wax paper to separate the item to be glued until your ready to stick them together.

I would glue it together and then make my holes through all layers at once.
I just ordered this with the mystery boxes!! Can't wait!
Is it possible to sew the zipper portion on a regular home sewing machine. I will never have the patience to sew this by hand.
It may be possible to sew the thinner parts on a home machine
Would it been easier to match the Center of the lining to leather first and then do one side, then the other side!
It would work well that way.
where u get that small stitch pony at?
Dave Swallows of Swallows leather and tools. He’s on Facebook and Instagram.
If you use thick wool cut the edges at a 45degree angle with sheers!you just have to keep it out of the zipper

Looks great. I think adding the ring was a great idea. Not sure if the zipper had a loop, but the ring and zipper loop could be used for a lock.
Will it fit an L frame witha 6" barrel?
lay some wooden dowels to place wool down
I sew everything by hand. How difficult/easy is the zipper with this gun case?
Not difficult at all, just will take a good bit of time.
Wax the metal zippers
to lay down the sheep wool, what i would do is lay down some wood dowels and place it on top for placement. then when i have it where i want to, i would start pulling dowels out and press into place.
Damn good idea!
How do you attach the zipper using the 4x36” like the pattern said? That’s how I cut everything originally and really don’t want to waste it.
Attach one side of the zipper to each half of the case then zip it up.
@@makersleathersupply1220 how would you make the straps then go smoothly along the flat middle side?

Thank You for the swift reply !.!
They say to use synthetic as it does not retain moisture. Real sheepskin does retain moisture.
Whoever they are
What weight 3/4" bridle you are using for the zipper gussets?
