Haha - you guys are hilarious! Awesome demo! (Even "Thor approved"!) I've watched a dozen or so demos of this amp and this is the first time the tube bias feature was explained in detail. That's too cool. I don't think Fender still makes this 100w combo anymore, but I managed to track a new one down (wasn't easy) and hope to get it soon
I love the theme song to your Anderton's videos SO MUCH! Oh, and that's a really impressive amp; something I could play with and customize for hours.

Hey lads! Regarding the club/arena-switch: didn't work for me bcause the amp's still way too loud in the club-mode-setting! So what I did was taking off the two middle power-amp-tubes and there you go! Like in the old days. The amp's sounds even better (at least for me)! And because of the automatic tube-matching feature it seams everything works well. My question(s): Is that ok or does it any harm to the amp? Is there anything else I could do to make this monster quieter?
:o I like that tone at 01:56 :D That guitar is beginning to grow on me a little too...I always thought the Explorer was a guitar which shouldn't be messed with cause it looks fine as it is...but certain copies are starting to become more appealing :P

This was the time when louder amps became a necessity, as good PA's had not yet been developed. That's a big reason players started to discover the great overdrive of tube amps, they needed more volume and turned their amps up more than most players had before and discovered the great overdrive.

wow i was gona be mean about that amp because i have never really liked fender amps, they just dont appeal to me like other amps but that is one smart amp and i think i would be happy to own that

I'm leaning towards the Peavey... As long as the cleans sound better than a Marshall 100 HDFX I really have no problems.
Chappers, what kind of guitar is that LP natural finish that your holding at 4:29?
They weren't designed to be louder really. The JTM-45 was 45 watts and so was a 4x10 Bassman. They were originally built because of the expense of importing Fenders. The JTM-45 just broke up sooner because of some different components used and a slightly different configuration.

Are you paying attention Marshall? This is how you try and improve an amp for modern days AND make it more affordable.
Wish the guy would've gave the guitar to chappers more though, I'm sure he'll get to play with it back at Fender's HQ
The biasing feature is great, wish my Blackstar had that, didn't like the tones much though unfortunately. Good cleans, but dated distortions. Good for the older generation guys..
So, it's essentially the 94' Twin with a better high gain circuit?

Yeah, well aware, and the original Marshalls weren't designed to sound distorted either - just LOUDER.

Well I'm wanting an amp head between $1000-$2500 U.S.$.... That has tons on gain and sounds good with mids turned up. I also want one that is durable. Extremely Durable. Of course since I'm buying the head separate I'll need a good cab. I'm willing to go $800 on the cab. I'm thinking a Dual Rectifier with a rectifier cab or A Regular peavy 6505 with a Rectifier cab.
I think you're probably at least partially right although, I think the JTM-45 combo, aka Bluesbreaker combo, came before the head and cab configuration. I know, or have read, that the impetus for the 8x12 was Pete Townshend. His roadies began to complain about lugging that cab around and, hence the 2 4x12 cabs, or full stack, was born.

yea this amp could totally handle death metal. i can tell.. i've played in a few death metal bands as drummer and guitarist

@Mo7Vsta but you gotta remember SRV used a marshall head attached to his Fender combo...and than the tube screamer. I own a supersonic 60w with a single speaker and I am very satisfied with my bluesrock tones, but it definitely misses that marshallish lows in my opinion

i think it can handle death metal, drop the wattage, crank the volume and gain 1 maybe gain 2 and play with the notch maybe a tubescreamer in front
why don't amp companies put auto-bias on every tube amp.
marshall had it on the slash signature now this fender also has it yet they cost over 1000 euros so not too affordable for the college students..

@angusgrandison And sabbath are obviously epic, I love ozzy and as a kid I sent him a letter wishing him to get better after his quadbike accident, he sent me one back with a signed picture of himself and now it's framed and on my wall, one of the best thing's i've ever had. You should go a little further down whilst peekin at my favourites, I love all sorts of music, from pryda to biffy clyro to the prodigy to newton faulkner etc

Hmm I don't like the gain sounds on this, it's managed to make EMG's sound muffled :/
how to make EMGs sound muffled: play them through a Fender =P
and about that patent - i'm very sure other companies have already done this before.
If you want durable you can't go wrong with a 6505!
what i would do is buy the amp and add a ts808

There really isn't a "Fender type distortion" since Fender's heritage is all about clean amps. They don't have the pedigree for distortion, IMO. You can get great overdrive/saturation sounds, but yeah, if you want true "distortion" sounds, you should probably look elsewhere~shrug~
I would happily play and lose the game soggy biscuit for that guitar =/

If you look closely you can see the cameraman staring stupidly at these guys while filming. He is the reflection on the guitar. Is he picking his nose or scratching his butt ? Hard to tell.

really good metal guitar is the schecter Hellraiser extreme and the Hellraiser C-1 extreme... i've owned 2 LTD and 2 Standar ESP... not a fan of overpriced guitars like them.... look at how amazing a Cort Z custom is or a Laguna LE924... both under 1000$ US.... sorry i just have a real bad thing for that ESP company, i feel they are rippin ppl off.. Schecter make better quality guitars at better prices

@angusgrandison Blink 182 are a band I loved about a year back, not so much anymore, but heart's all gone i liked. Soundgarden I never really liked, but chris cornell's voice is amazing, qotsa I never really liked either, I prefer them crooked vultures, but that's just me. Probot's of course an amazing project which I love, mainly because dave grohl is the best thing to happen to music in a very very long time. And faith no more are wank, seriously mate, just terrible.
