Thank you, Doug, for exposing this generally unrecognized song of 1996 on Neil's country album, "Tennessee Moon".This has valuable historical data as you so purposefully imbedded in your visuals amongst approximately sixty slides that coincide with the lyrics. Notably is that the session was recorded with the late great Chet Atkins (1924-2001) in Franklin, Tennessee, probably in 1995 before the record's release in early 1996.
0:08 Entrance slide, "Under the spell of a Tennessee Moon" shows Neil standing with his guitar and a dark blue background surrounded by a treble staff of swirling notes.
0:18 Chet Atkins (Mr. Guitar) appears and is overshadowed by a Road Trip map of the "Blues Highway" from Nashville, Tennessee to New Orleans, Louisiana.
0:24 Neil's photo appears.
0:26 "So long big city" - Neil is placed in front of a map of Los Angeles, California and then shifting our focus to a night scene of Los Angeles 0:27 - 0:33.
0:34 - 0:35 "Longing for those country roads" - depicts a scene of mountains and a winding road both in dark blue dusk colors.
0:36 "I need to see the sky" - A superimposed picture of an airplane flying over a country road amidst farmland and silos during the day.
0:37 " I think I'll take a swing down south" - The "Blues Highway" runs North to South on Route US 61 where it is known for the development of rhythm and blues music as well as country music.
0:44 "And visit Tennessee" - A map of the United States with a smaller map that is boxed in the lower right corner of the map of only the State of Tennessee. Included are the times of travel by air (3 hours 55 minutes) as well as by car (29 hours) totaling 2,004 miles.
0:46 "See if that girl, Annie" - A frontal face from memory showing scribbles surrounding her countenance as well as strands of ribbon-like translucent shapes to add to the mystery.
0:51 "Still remembers me" - A side view of Annie as she glances back.
0:54 - 1:00 "Gone take that "Blue Highway" - A combination of the original photo of the dark blue road with dark blue mountains at dusk combined with a wooden post showing a "Blues Highway" US 61 sign. Nailed to the wooden post as well is a sign with notable people and places from Missouri, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. They comprise of Mark Twain, who was born in Florida, Missouri as well as Elvis Presley of Nashville, Tennessee with Graceland's Guest House in Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. Also notable is Jim Henson and one of the Muppets Museums in Leland, Mississippi. "The Crossroads" at Highway 49 and 61 in Clarksville, Mississippi where famed legend and Master Blues Guitarist, Robert Johnson emerged. There is the Civil War History Museum in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the South's Antebellum Homes as well and Natchez, Mississippi with the Mississippi River and a paddle boat. One of the Coca Cola Museums is in Vicksburg, Mississippi as well as the City of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a picture of a streetcar in New Orleans, Louisiana.
1:42 "And leave this sorry town" - Neil's photo is in the background with Los Angeles, California in the foreground (27 years ago, when Neil was in his middle 50's).
1:06"Stayed too long but now I'm gone. I know where I'm bound" - A huge clock face is set at 11:55 that is superimposed over dark blue mountains and a skyline.
1:09 Added to the above slide is a portion of the State Flag of Tennessee with three stars over a dark blue circle and surrounded by a red circle, then placed in the upper left-hand corner.
1:11 "I don't want to take the Interstate; represents all the things I hate" - A Travel Map of Interstate 40 from Los Angeles to Nashville.
1:20 - 1:24 " Rolling down that Blue Highway" - US Highway 61 map with sights.
1:25 - 1:27 - The Dark Horse Recording Studio in Franklin, Tennessee opened in 1993 and can accommodate 12 guests currently.
1:30 - 1:40 There are five interior photos of "The Dark Horse Recording Studio" with some sections fit for "a King".
1:42 "So long confusion" - Chet and Neil's photos are overshadowed by the "Dark Horse Recording Studio" during their recording session.
1:44 "It's time to slow things down" - An amazing maze of highway traffic patterns and a superimposed sign with many directions of indecision and confusion.
1:50 "Say goodbye to old friends" - A "Goodbye Friend" declarative sentence with a yellow flower next to the words.
1:52 "Ease on out of town" - A photo of a white car moving down the highway.

My pleasure Donita, you are no doubt aware, this song was at the very top of my "To do" list since November 2022. Weighed heavily on my mind as I was about to embark on a subject I knew virtually nothing about. Had till then, never heard of the Blues Highway. The thought of me being way off the mark in my mindset to connect Neil's Blue Highway and the Blues Highway. I felt ill at ease, but after weeks churning it over in my mind, I decided to hell with it, I'll proceed.
Firstly a huge thank you for your kind assistance throughout 2022 in shedding a light for viewers to fully understand Neil's songs and my videos. Many have benefitted from your insights. I have never/will never be one to insert a running narrative or lyrics, save for the odd lyric (even though UA-cam suggest doing so as a means of obtaining more views), in my videos as I feel that they detract the images.
Thank you for the incredible amount of work, time and effort you have put into highlighting this song and video. Sterling effort. Grateful. Thank you Donita.

This has been a voyage of discovery for me as well. Until I commenced my research that this song required. Living in Australia, I had no idea that the Blues Highway even existed! 😳I too have learned a lot as I engaged myself in the process of compiling this video. 🦋 💙 First of all, this is a great song from a very good album. I am listening to the Tennessee Moon album presently. I realized recently that I may have put Neil's music on "simmer" too quickly. After seeing him at the 1976-1977 World Tour concerts in Atlanta and Las Vegas, the years went by and life moved quickly.
I missed a lot of my favorite singer's music and his life. I was reminded a short time ago that Neil once said "if you know my music, then you know me". I think I shall get to know Neil's music better! 🫠 🎼🎶🎶

As the late Dave Radstock (the Neil Diamond Guru) described the 'Tennessee Moon' album -

You know this, but...there are many many forms of artistry....of course, painting comes to mind first...then there's dancing (all types of performing art) ,musical instruments, furniture (wood works), tooling leather, floral arranging, figure skating, and on and on...but. have you perused other video channels? I have read 2 of Dave Radstock's articles and see why his passion and wisdom regarding Neil Diamond was so important and treasured on NDCentral. It's sad that he is no longer with us. 😥
I will go back and read his video comments and learn more about Neil and also Dave. Where was Dave from? His comments, or I call them essays, provided impactful information, but not over simplified. 🙂

Thanks for your kind words Louise. I do not as a rule peruse other video channels. Firstly, I do not wish to have the ideas of others seep into my brain and thus contaminate my thought processes, as a young Spanish lady once said _"To maintain the purity of your thought processes"._ Secondly, I simply haven't the time to spare.
In addition, being a perfectionist I am highly critical of my work. Even the slightest "flaw" will see me delete a video. Case in point, this video. It took 2 previous uploads (deleted minutes after upload), before this one. With upload #1(Fail), at 0:09 noticed that the right side of Neil's face was lit up, whereas I had the moon to located to the right of the words "Under the Spell of a Tennessee Moon", (on Neil's left). Moved it to over Neil's right shoulder. Upload #2 (Fail), noticed there were black frame bars at the top and bottom of the image of Los Angeles 0:30. Unfortunately minute errors/flaws seem to escape my scrutiny prior to the upload onto UA-cam. 😞
Hope the tornado did no damage and just petered-out without doing too much damage.

Hi Doug, thanks for this information! Understand why you prefer not to view other music videos especially. I, as a viewer, looked at many before I found NDC. Actually, your "Suzanne" was the first video I watched because I really like the song. A college friend was a Judy Collins dead ringer in looks and voice...guitar and all. She sat on the floor in the dorm room and entertained us with so many beautiful folk songs, "Suzanne" among them.
So, after I viewed that one I searched other Neil Diamond songs and found the gold mine😊. Lucky me!
No tornado, only a 'watch'. All is good here. Soon 2 good eyes!
