    This beautiful Disney song is on p.10 of Alfred's Adult Greatest Hits Level 2. The lyrics were written by Howard Ashman and the music by Alan Menken for the 1991 Disney film "Beauty and The Beast". In the film, Angela Lansbury sings the song as "Mrs. Potts". Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson recorded a duet version of it as well. Both versions were very successful and garnered many awards. Personally, I'd put this in my Top 10 Disney Song favorites list.
    I prefer to play this song at a tempo of "Andante" rather than "Moderato". (Andante is slower than Moderato.) --Norma
    This piano arrangement is by Dennis Alexander.

    Tale as old as time
    True as it can be
    Barely even friends
    Then somebody bends
    Unexpectedly
    Just a little change
    Small to say the least
    Both a little scared
    Neither one prepared
    Beauty and the Beast
    Ever just the same
    Ever a surprise
    Ever as before
    And ever just as sure
    As the sun will rise, woah
    Ever just the same, oh
    And ever a surprise, yeah
    Ever as before
    And ever just as sure
    As the sun will rise
    Oh-oh-ooh
    Tale as old as time, a-a-ay
    Tune as old as song, oh
    Bitter-sweet and strange
    Finding you can change
    Learning you were wrong, woah
    Certain as the sun
    Certain as the sun
    Rising in the east
    Tale as old as time
    Song as old as rhyme
    Beauty and the Beast
    Tale as old as time
    Song as old as rhyme
    Beauty and the Beast
    Woah a-a-ay

    I learned a much simpler version while I was about a third of the way through level 1. Can't wait for the upgrade.

      This is one of those songs that is available in many different arrangements at all levels. It's a great song and I'm glad that people can enjoy it regardless of where they are in their piano journey. Keep practicing and you'll be ready for this one soon! Norma

      Oh good! There really are some great Disney pieces that are quite sophisticated and beautiful. Some of my other Disney favorites would be "Reflection" (from Mulan), "A Whole New World" (from Aladdin), "Go the Distance" (from Hercules), and I love the "Pirates of the Caribbean". You might find a handful that you enjoy. If you find some others that you like, let me know. I'd be interested to know which ones could break the "No Disney" rule. --Norma

      Yes, great song! Disney has given us a wonderful collection of music over the years. I greatly appreciate the creativity of the musicians to compose amazing songs that reflect the spirit of the film while being truly quality pieces that have the ability to endure the test of time. Norma

    Absolutely wonderful arrangement! I was looking for an arrangement of this song for my piano cover, but I missed this somehow. The original sheet music book is at a value price too for a total of 15 songs!

    I keep watching your finger techniques. You might have a better finger arrangement on 11th measure, 5 2 1 2 134:) It took me a long time to overcome measures 13 -27. I guess it is all in the fingering. To see you play so smoothly is an encouragement.

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  7 років тому +1

      Thank you! I did change the fingering in measure 11 and then again in measure 34 when the same pattern shows up. It simply felt more comfortable for my hand that way, but either fingering would be fine. I often adjust the fingering that the editor has put in a song to suit my hand or that of my students. I notate it on my music so that way if I review a song after several months or years, my preferred fingering is there already for reference. Norma

    I love the music of this song. When do I play as you! I'm not young to learn piano!

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  7 років тому +5

      Adults actually learn faster than children that's why the adult method books move at a much more rapid rate than the children's method books due to hand development, finger dexterity, mental understanding of abstract concepts, etc. So don't be discouraged that you didn't start when you were young. There are more adults today learning to play the piano than ever before.
      The amount of time it takes to reach a certain level of proficiency varies tremendously from person to person which is one reason that I prefer teaching individual students rather than group lessons. Of course, the amount of time spent practicing is a huge contributing factor. Just keep practicing regularly and Enjoy the Journey! Norma

    Hi you play great can you please tell me the tempo? Thank you

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  3 роки тому +2

      The tempo marking is "Moderato" which is moderate in between an "Andante" and "Allegro". With this song, I think a good way to check your tempo is to sing-along and see if it's at a comfortable singing tempo. I wouldn't play this one any faster than my video, and I do think slower would be well within a reasonable range. There are many recordings of this song and not everyone sings or plays it at the same tempo so there is room for some personal interpretation. I think my quarter note was approximately 92 on my metronome, but I wasn't super rigid with it since this is an expressive song. --Norma

    I thought this was in the adult Alfred level 2, not the greatest hits. Nooooo, not sure if I can make it through book 2, the song selection is not great minus the Chopin etude arrangement. But I guess, have to enjoy the journey.

    When would be a good time to attempt this piece? I've only been playing for 2 months (still at Alfred's All-in-One bk. 1 + Mikrokosmos bk.1). By the looks of it, I'm not even close lol

    • @92pianokeys40
      @92pianokeys40  3 роки тому +2

      As you can see, it's in the Alfred's Greatest Hits Level 2 book which is intended to correlate with the Alfred's Adult All-In-One Level 2 book, but if you get desperate before then, you can always make a start on it and just do small portions at a time hands separate and very gradually learn it. But it may take a while until it has the fluency that you'd like to achieve with it. If you have a teacher, have them make sure that you're not using poor fingering choices, poor technique, mis-reading notes, etc. Since you wouldn't want to develop bad habits with a piece that you love. --Norma
