How Dawntrail Might Reference FF9

- This video discusses major spoilers for both Final Fantasy 9 and Final Fantasy 14.
Dawntrail isn't out just yet, but a lot of its promotional material suggests that Final Fantasy 9 will be important to it. Here are a few ways that Dawntrail might reference FF9.
Keep in mind that this video is purely speculation. This was made before Dawntrail came out, and it's entirely possible more information could be revealed between now and the release date.
FF9 is a very special game to me, and one of my favorite games of all time. I'm very excited to see what ways it may be relevant in FF14's next expansion!

I think this is very plausible! There are actually already a lot of parallels between 14 and 9 as you note. I didn't consider that Solution 9 could be for the souls of another shard, but I can see how that could tie into the Void arc in endwalker as well.
I loooove FF9, and this was such a quality video to summarize everything between these 2 games that we know atm! I genuinely hope we'll get FF9 related raids as well, it would be insanely cool

It’s very interesting that the trance skill you showed looks exactly like Terra’s trance from ff6 (maybe it was a reference at the time) and 6 and 9 are the two strongest influences on dawntrail. Coupled with a graphics overhaul that just so happens to make it look like our characters are glowing under their skin.
I know it sounds crazy but if they make everyone’s wol turn purple and glowy in dawntrail you heard it here first 😂

Wuk Lumat is a nod to Mog from IX. A boastful yet cowardly girl from another continent, that transforms into Maduin, a lion summon of holy light (dawn-trail) to protect her adopted sister (brother in XIV).
Also Viper is Zidane all over, the power source is also based on hunter memories like a festival of the hunt. Also one of Zidane's two handed weapons is called Rune Tooth. It not only looks very similar to the Viper weapon in terms of design but also the description of said weapon says it is also known as 'The Viper'.
looking forward to seeing just how integral the ff9 references will be for the MSQ, if at all. Just glad to see it be given some more love within the game, I'm fully expecting Viper skills to be references to Zidane's moveset as well! Similar to what they did with Gunbreaker for FF8
Love the video and I can't wait for the FF9 references in Dawntrail! Hopefully we'll get plenty of FF9 music like Kuja's theme and black mage village, that would be wonderful
Let's not forget the Ark mount released which plays the Battle theme of 9

As far as I'm concerned, the reflection Living Memory, Alexandria, etc. are in is the Ninth Shard. 🤓
Not only that, but this is the reflection responsible of the calamity of thunder eons ago
@@user-ku8yi5to4fIt can't be responsible for a past umbral calamity. If it was, the reflection wouldn't exist anymore at all, having been completely absorbed by the Source.

I'm absolutely fine with them referencing 9 in Dawntrail. But only as long as Kuja is wearing pants.
