Restoring A Beloved Classic - It's A Wonderful Life (1946) [4K HDR]

A look at how the film was restored for its newest 4K release. This video is in 4K and has HDR.
This is uploaded for the purpose of education for the viewer on the history of this piece of animation. I do not own this, and if Paramount wants it taken down then I will take it down.

This is a stunning achievement. I have the UHD of this restoration, and it's like seeing it for the first time, it's so vivid. THIS is what 4K restoration is about. I have dozens of UHD of movies from the late 1930's to today. Without exception, the most satisfying are older films I'd seen countless times before. This was a revelation....

It might just be a consequence of YT's compression but it seems there's a decent amount of black crush in the restored picture.
Dark details visible in the unrestored version such as the subtle details in the jacket of the sledding boy are invisible in the restoration.
I maxed out the shadow detail on my TV to ensure it wasn't an issue on my end but sure enough it made no difference.
surely that's the opposite of what an HDR restoration should achieve. One of the formats biggest advantages is the greater amount of near black tones allowing for more shadow detail to be retained.

I never knew it was originally filmed in Black & White. I've only ever seen it in technicolor. It's looks really good in technicolor. Makes it look like you're really there in technicolor. Now if they release it in 4K Dolby Vision I would would definitely buy it.

It has been on 4k Bluray with DV since 2019.

@seandudley556 Is it in 4K Dolby Vision technicolor and not in black & white??? I have it on Blu-ray 1080p technicolor, and it looks like it was filmed just yesterday even though my flat panel display is 4K.
