Man alive is right. Fantastic review of an epic convertible. Excellent presentation. I want one and I want it pretty much now. Thanks so much for posting! Epic, brother!
Great review, nice to hear positive comments on a convertible. The comments on the smells and sounds during driving at dusk was a nice touch. I love the car, wish I had the £121,000 😂
Maybe this BMW is the answer for you as the new Audi S4 for 2020 has a diesel engine!! As for driving a soft top at night or late evening. I full concur. When I had my MG Midget I loved going for a drive late at night after a scorchingly hot sunny day. The air was still warm but the scent of the day was still there, but cooling and for some reason, it just enlightened it. However. There is a caveat for buying convertibles. Buy one that was designed as a convertible. Not one that was made into one from a hardtop car. I just wish that when BMW do launch the new Z4, they will have a 4wd version of it at some point. Great car. Great video. Nice one Pete :-))... Now for the new M5...
Great video again, what a car, but too big for me, esp as I've just changed my Panamera for a 440i convertible. It's such a delight with the roof open - birdsong etc, plenty of power, superb handling, enough boot space for us, and it's so small! Very impressed with the Beemer, all this and it has a head up display as well! A drive to the South of France is being planned.
Wow, that was amazing! Like you said, the car is aimed at a premium side of the market and I think it will sit well along certain heavy weights. Porsche fan here driving a convertible BMW 3 series because I can’t afford a 911. This BMW smashes the 911 in pretty much every way, I feel like I’m cheating on my favourite marque but this 850 M has it all. The practical side, with bags of power and plenty of drama and an exhaust note to boot - you can have the 911, I’d have the BMW. Totally with you about the convertible car experience, some people fail to see it’s purely a sensory overload the smells of nature of during a dash through the rural areas especially of an evening. That BMW is what I’d class as ‘pure motoring’ - love it!
Petrol Ped I could totally relate to all the top down driving thrills you’d spoken about in your film. Driving the 335i convertible I see as being a cheaper and older alternative with some power and noise from the exhausts. It beggars belief that so few take a leap of faith and buy a convertible and enjoy the open air driving experience!
Thanks Pete, great vid as usual. You really sold this car ! When I`m done with racing Caterhams, this will be wonderful for doing road trips abroad. I like the versatility of it.You can just sightsee and stop for a picnic, or you can burn them off at traffic lights! The price is high which is a down side for most people. The other thing. What the *&%$ were BMW thinking to put in that crystal gear knob????????!!!!!!!!!! H8888888 it!!!!
Edgar Misplaced the depreciation is great. It means a second owner will be able to pick up a nearly new car for a lot less than some shmuck paid BMW 😂 you can pick up a low mileage F90 M5 for £65k now. That’s a bargain.
Brilliant. Really enjoyed that :) I’m not a massive convertible fan so in my world, if I had £121k, I’d buy a nearly new highly specced F90 M5 for circa £80k and then pop it off to Imran at Evolve for exactly the same treatment they’ve given their car. That thing is just about as quick as a 720S and sounds like a monster. Whatever cash is left over can go towards running costs :)
Been waiting in anticipation for what feels like an age for the 8 Series and it seems to have had mixed reviews...unlike this one when apart from one or two minor things you were very positive about it. Enjoyed the video as always and i agree what a day to get the roof down and enjoy the convertible. Look forward to many more reviews from BMW...by the way you drove to a BMW convention in an Audi E-Tron?
It does seem a very nice car - I had two XKR convertibles and still don’t understand why they stopped making them, ignoring emissions! I think the Jag had more style, but this looks to be the closest alternative, but not at £120k!
Oooooh all in Black. Sweeeeeeeeet. Oh the growl, yep we will have 2 please 👍😜😜. I’d want the weekend with it. She has to be RS-6 esq? Kate has always loved Stealth persona. Would defo consider one of these. What was she pulling economy wise in Sport, although I dare bet ya wouldn’t take notice to be fair? It’s waaaaay nicer than an E350 we took out for a weekend last year. I know she is a slightly different level of course. You hit the nail on the head concerning the aromas at dusk, that was the first thing both me and Kate mentioned when we went out within the first 10 mins of the drive. You just don’t get that with a conventional car, even with all the windows down lol. The 0-60 was beautiful. The sound track, ooooosh. Will at some point try and get one on demo for a weekend. Kate will defo sniff this. She loves them, I do too, although Audi just, only just pips my cherry. Awesome vid as always thanks.
Pop up headlights add drag. That car is decadently made. Very special. Sadly though I'd have to mount my Android phone on the windscreen 😑... Wait, that my annual salary. Forget ^ I'd never be able to afforded it. Carry on... Beautiful car.
Looks a very capable car. Agree about the open top motoring. I used to have a E46 M3 Convertible and that was great to drive along country roads. £100k+ is a lot of money mind, perhaps wait a couple of years and get it at half the price. Also as an ex Lotus Esprit owner, I totally agree about the pop up lights 👍
Hi, where was this please ? I'll take my ragtop mini next time the Sun appears ! Great video, would have been good if you had time to talk about the dash layout and features but I guess the drive is the star turn ! Cheers Ped..
Very nice, though I personally prefer a hardtop. Which is just as well as I just acquired a Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.9cdti "Design" and that has loads more names in it's title than the BMW M850i Cabriolet (530bhp Twin Turbo V8). And my Astra is also all black, including the rear windows!!
@@Pmjs Nice, that's the later shap[e one isn't it? How many mountain bikes did you fit in the back? And just as a by the way, what torque did that engine give?
I'm currently investigating a slightly used 2019 850i with 10,000 miles on it, for $102,850.00 granted it's two years old Black metallic on black Napa leather. It seems to be just the thing I need for a little run about...
Hi Peter just 1 question conti GT from last week or BMW 850 from tonight's video, which would you bye with your own hard-earned if you had the chance. Regards Simon.
This is far more me. Both very similar to drive. Huge power, four wheel drive and the feeling of a smaller car. However the Beemer felt even more sharp and pointy.
Hi Ped Agree with you 101% on open top motoring👍👍👍I recall a memorable trip from home leaving at 4.30am to drive to Castle Coombe for a Sprint Meeting, with the top off of course. Driving into the sunrise, empty roads, hearing the sounds of the countryside, could not be better.😄😄😄 BMW M850i sorry not for me! Do not like the design, too big, too expensive. Give me my 911 Carrera 4 S Cabrio any day. When we bought this car in April 2016, managed to cover 8000miles by September in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland. I rest my case.🤗🤗🤗

I know you don’t buy a car like this for its mpg qualities but if it is a GT then having to refill every 350 miles because it’s only doing 20mpg is a real pain
120k.... Would rather have an LC500 for 70k and a Boxster S for 50k. One coupe and one cab - both are much more reliable and retain their value for a lot longer
That’s really expensive for a Bmw Convertible . Think I would rather buy a Porsche 911 Turbo cabriolet which is used for the same money. Alternatively for about half the money A C63s Convertible .

@Tobias Hezekiah i would suggest FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)
@Dawson Graysen yup, been using flixzone for since april myself =)
