Just my personal opinion, and KS is obviously free to do whatever they feel is in their best interest, but I believe that self-expression is a powerful motivator. Obviously, they felt it important enough to provide a means for the competitors of the eSRO series to do so (obviously due to sponsorship considerations), but it would be a good PR move to adopt an approach similar to iRacing - make the means available, and allow some 3rd party to take on the challenge of providing a solution to share custom liveries, free of any potential liability upon themselves. I personally think that what Trading Paints has done with iRacing, not to mention iRacing's effort to facilitate their approach (easy way to identify competitors, on-demand refresh of textures when new files are downloaded, etc.) is very commendable. Anyway, thanks for sharing! It looks like their texturing engine will certainly open up some imagination once this gets in the hands of more and more artists... awesome tutorial, very easy to understand. Going to create my 1st livery ever thanks to you. Thank you so much for giving people like me with no previous knowledge, some tools to customize and have fun :)
Great tutorial! Your explanation was simple and effective, thank you for your time. Really is a shame though that despite all the effort one can put into creating a work of art, the game can't display it for all to admire. I'm pretty sure it is possible for a multiplayer server to fetch the design from your game files automatically if only Kunos would implement it. If I remember correctly, many years ago when I played Forza Motorsport on console, you could make liveries limited only by your own imagination and they would be seen in multiplayer. Who knows, perhaps in time to come when whatever legalities allow it, we will get to do this.
Effing great video. Right to the point. I'm a little baffled the game accepts such generic file types as .png for textures (Project Cars requires .DDS iirc, making things a little more complicated). Maybe that's just a "happy accident" due to UE4. My guess would be that Kunos can't allow custom liveries in a licensed game, but can also hardly change/remove the way the game accesses textures. Hopefully this won't get patched. There are some stunning liveries in the game, but self-made ones are on another level.
I as well hope it will not get patched, and that they build up on this with maybe an official editor or something... maybe also for MP... but there is the issue with some types of people who might do pretty gruesome or obscene liveries just for the fun of it :(
you don't need to create the liveries folder or the base .json. After making the basic skin with the in-game painter and save it. Open the new .json and add the name of the folder you want. reload your car in-game and ACC will create the folder and two .json files...
