@@Fortefyre Yeah it's the OG. I remember playing it with my Brother and Uncle who would actually go fishing and camping with. Nostalgia is a powerful best of things
I have such fond memories of Dragon Warrior because it came for free with Nintendo Power. It was usually chill, but definitely had its terrifying moments. Like when you found yourself deep in a cave, out of torches, no MP for light, bumping around in the dark, scared you're about to lose a bunch of progression.
@@Kryxx07 Oh man I remember that. I memorized that cave so I could go through it without any light, but would screw it up often and be completely lost!
Hehe, it was me that mentioned a top 10 top 10 video! XD For me, I find the Dragon Warrior games, Final Fantasy, and Tetris to be relaxing on the Nes. Grinding in Jrpg's is just therapeutic, great way to unwind and to de-stress.
@@Fortefyre Hmm, maybe something to do with Nes memories? I mean all those games from all those top 10's are bound to have some great memories in some of them. Top 10 Nes Memories?
Same here. RPGs are my relaxing fun time. I know many people hate having to grind in them, but as long as it isn’t too unreasonable, if the encounter rate isn’t too high, I love it.
I love me some relaxing JRPG farming! Just the other day I was playing through the Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster and was grinding for something rare. I was so ready to veg out and listen to music from my collection I wanted to go through, organize, and rate. I was actually disappointed when the rare thing I was grinding for dropped fairly quickly, haha.
@Kryxx07 Final Fantasy 4 is my favorite game of all time. XD Let me guess you was either going for a Pink Tail or a hidden Summon right? Think they raised the drop rates on everything in the Pixel Remasters, in the OG version you could spend days and never see one!
Thanks for showcasing "Kickle Cubicle" that is now my go to game to zone out this October & it even has 3 Jack-O-Lanterns after beating the 1st 17 levels! Perfect for Halloween! My original zone out game in October is Castlevania on the NES. Felix the Cat & Kirby are year around my favorites to just pass the time. For whatever reason i love playing Tetris on my Game Boy, maybe that is how i 1st discovered it, so there is that. Other than that it was a great list you have for the NES!!! My spirit feels calm now!
Just went to Spark Man,Top Man,Flash Man or Bubble Man stages in Mega Man 2 or 3,left Mega Man standing there at the beginning and relaxed by listening to the Stage Music, those were my favorite!
Actually I thought the Game Boy version of Tetris was better then the NES one,the lack of colors made it easier to see the blocks and the music just sounded better on the Game Boy.
I would play echo the dolphin to relax on the sega as a kid. I wasn't worried about getting very far cuz I didn't. But a few times I was able to actually progress and my 7yo mind was blown
Tmnt 2, snow stage, with the game genie invincibility code, mowing through enemies without a care in the world…that’s my childhood, that’s my safe place 🥰
You poor unfortunate soul! You didn’t add the game I always make your name so synonymous with?! Lol Side pocket is a game that was relaxing for me. Especially with that catchy theme music playing over and over again. Love your work man! Great stuff! 💪
Totally agree with Kirby at #1 Princess Tomato In The Salad Kingdom is kinda relaxing to me plus a vast majority of the Black Box games (Tennis, Clu Clu Land, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Pinball, etc)
"I know some of you do yoga to death metal" might be one of the greatest lines I've heard in a long time. I think my top 3 most relaxing games are Jaws, Dr Mario, and Tetris. And the latter two led to my love of Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for Sega.
It didn't start out that relaxing, but eventually Final Fantasy became the most calming NES game to me. Once I knew all the secrets, it became much more relaxing, familiar, and delightful to replay. The music is so good and now in the age of mutimedia, I am able to grind levels while listening to an audio book or watching videos.
It's mind blowing to realize the success of Tetra. Released during the Cold War by a Russian and ending up being arguably the best selling title of all time? I doubt most people reading this will understand how mind boggling that is
RPGs are especially relaxing to me, there's a comfort that comes with the knowledge that no matter how fucky some Boss Fights can be, there is always a way to overpower them.
I feel like these are games that can play you into retirement.. I am done with the quick reflexes and emotion stress of gaming, time to relax into retirement. I will certainly refer back to this game when the time comes.....but not yet!!!! Great video as always sir. Cheers
I get where you’re coming from including Lolo here, but some of the later puzzles in 2 and 3 are insanely frustrating. The games go from calculated strategic fun, to maddenly insane brain busters with a lot of finesse and movement/timing precision. The early levels though really do give you a great sense of accomplishment when you solve them though.
Some other Relaxing NES games are Yoshi’s Cookie, Paperboy, Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Ducktales 1 and 2, Toobin’, Wrecking Crew, Popeye, and Blades of Steel
Games that I would have included here on the original NES: Golf (It’s a very easy-paced game, with no real competition but your own skill); Final Fantasy (again, no real-world time pressure); Gemfire (though the SNES or DOS version is infinitely better), Destiny of an Emperor, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, Nobunaga’s Ambition 2, North & South, Wario’s Woods, Yoshi’s Cookie, and Yoshi. In modern day with patches and hacks: Famicom Wars, Super Robot Wars, Final Fantasy 2 & 3, Sherlock Holmes: Kidnapping of the Earl’s Daughter, and a few other games. You’ll notice that I’m much more into heavy ‘take your time’ strategy games, but I respect puzzles too.
The original Golf is really good. My brother and I grew up playing it and we still would play it from time to time as adults. Same with Marble Madness.
Yep totally agree, same with NES Tetris 9-5 on the B side. Whenever you had some bonehead who thought they were great at video games or thought they were the Wizard or something I'd tell them to get back to me when you beat both those settings.
When my friends came over, they always wanted to play co-op games, like Contra, Ikari Warriors, etc. They would roll their eyes when I popped in Tetris. I despised Dr. Mario though, because I felt it was an inferior Tetris ripoff.😁
As much as I love Lolo, it's hardly relaxing when you think you've figured out a puzzle only to be absolutely jumpscared into oblivion by a Medusa/Don Medusa or Gol that you forgot to block.
Was hoping Lolo would be on here - that’s always been a favorite for me to relax with. And yes, I’ve definitely been Tetris-ized before haha. A few others that I’ve often used for relaxation: Monopoly - the NES version is actually still my favorite electronic version of the game Boulder Dash - classic puzzler from the 80s and the NES got a great port. Ever play it? Wrecking Crew - When you’re in the mood to break things Duck Hunt - a very zen game, in its way; just clear your mind and concentrate on the ducks Tennis - I actually played this primarily on Game Boy, but since that was effectively identical to the NES version I feel justified including it here. The sweet spot for this game is on the middle difficulty levels where the AI is skilled enough to give you a competitive match but isn’t dashing all over the court at the speed of bullshit. It’s such a satisfying feeling when I finally put the computer away at the end of a 17-stroke rally.
These are some of the best games for sure Bubble Bobble, Dr. Mario and Tetris are all just amazing games you can still play today and enjoy. I could get really far on the Gameboy Tetris beating the B side and getting very far in the A side Just to see all the different rockets you could get after a very high score. The NES B side holy crap is that harder than shit. For people saying they are good at video games try and beat 9-5 B side in Tetris or the highest difficulty and speed setting in Dr. Mario. But to your point these were easy pickup and play games you didn't need to feel like you were not making progress because every few seconds you were building something. For the life of me I don't know why Nintendo didn't put Tetris in the NES Classic. Don't get me wrong I think Dr. Mario is great but come on now. Ever since my son and I bought the NES classic we actually spend the most time playing Kirby's adventure it's just fun. I just remember the music was catchy and fun uplifting in all these games.
I'm going to throw Guerilla War to the list. You get unlimited continues and you re-start right where you died. There is no pressure to be perfect or really "get good." You can plow through the game in about 25minutes and see the end credits. It's really fun and relaxing because it's a "shooting" game that isn't NES-HARD.
1) Joust had an arcade only sequel, but it wasn't very successful. I mention it because it looks and feels to me more like an NES game than an arcade game. 2) I find Silent Service to be relaxing. I enjoyed it a lot as a kid but for some reason didn't own it even though it was literally $14.99 brand new at Toys R Us and was the cheapest game they sold. Even games like back to the future and Jekyll and Hyde were $19.99. (the best $19.99 games IMO were Batman, Snake Rattle 'N Roll, Crystalis, and Solar Jetman)
That's true! Survival of the Fittest was pretty interesting but didn't really capture the sales they wanted. I blame the end of the golden age. I love simulation games though, Silent Service almost made the list.
Seeing Fire N Ice as well as Kickle Cubickle again makes me want to play them... Maybe you can make a top 10 list of Ice or/and Fire themed Games? (Or even wind or earth, but yeah haha) P.S. Listening to Bloody Tears on Castlevania II NES, relaxes me as a kid for some reason.. even now
Pinball...simple, whatever happens will happen and no strategy needed. Sure, I could fall asleep while playing it but at least nothing about this game sent my controller flying at Mach 2 into the floor whenever something pissed me off! My dad liked this one too! 😉
More Relaxing NES Games: Major League Baseball Side Pocket Championship Bowling Tecmo Bowl Super Mario Bros 2 Super Mario Bros 3 Blades of Steel Excitebike Tiny Toon Adventures Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers T&C Surf Designs
If you practice Balloon Fight enough with save states you can clear out almost all of the enemies before they blow up their balloons on the first several stages. In Felix, you need to punch the clouds for hidden goodies. Fire n Ice is a great game but definitely stressful. All the Lolo games are awesome. I just beat the 1st on Switch with no hints. Kickle Cubicle is so good that Nintendo published it in PAL regions. I like Sega's Pengo better but it's still great. Hatris is probably the most underrated action puzzle game on NES. I *like* Bubble Bobble, but it definitely annoys me in the way a lot of classic Taito arcade games do. NES Tetris is S tier. If it had more music, 2 players, a hold, and a quick drop, it would be God tier. Kirby's Adventure is *THE* best game on the NES. Forget SMB3 and Zelda. Kirby provides you so much control over how you choose to approach any given enemy or obstacle or level that any kind of gamer can derive a lot of fun from this classic.
As for Game Boy, GBC, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, Turbografx-16, N64, PlayStation, and Saturn; Game Boy- Super Mario Land 2, Mole Mania, The Adventures of Lolo, Kid Dracula, and Kirby's Star Stacker. GBC- Wario Land 2, Wario Land 3, Hamtaro: Hams Hams Unite, Classic Bubble Bobble, and Pokemon Pinball. SNES- Kirby Super Star, Henpokorin Adventure, Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack on Easy difficulty, Bust-A-Move, and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Genesis- Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion, Altered Beast, Barney's Hide and Seek, Crystal's Pony Tale (almost feels like a MLP G2 game), and Columns. Game Gear- Bust-A-Move, Puyo Puyo 2, Mickey Mouse: Land of Illusion, Paperboy 2, and Wonder Boy. Turbografx-16- Magical Chase on Easy mode, New Adventure Island, Bonk's Adventure, Bomberman '94, and Cratermaze on Normal difficulty. N64- Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Puzzle League on Easy mode (the Japanese counterpart for N64 was actually scrapped and then was revived as Panel de Pon GCN), Yoshi's Story, Harvest Moon (Story of Seasons) 64, and Rocket: Robot on Wheels. PlayStation- Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (music is also more relaxing than the original), Harvest Moon (Story of Seasons): Back to Nature, Barbie: Race and Ride, My Disney Kitchen, and Mr. Driller 500m run. Saturn- Bust-A-Move 3, Cleopatra Fortune, Saturn Bomberman, Nights into Dreams, and Myst.
This is a good list of choices for relaxing NES games. Hatris, though? There's relaxing, and then there's coma-inducing... Also, I know people dig Balloon Fight, but I can't help but think of it as the Weenie Hut Jr. version of Joust. Half of what made the game so great is the surreal setting and graphics! You take all that out and you get... Balloon Fight. (At least it's better than the NES version of Joust, which was lacking slightly. Iwata did them both, and it's clear that his heart was with Balloon Fight.)
What? Super c not on here.. haha. These are definitely relaxing fun time games here. So what do you think of my Tetris. SHITRIS. It's a game where pieces of poo and underwear float down to the bottom of the screen. And you have to put a piece of poo in each pair of undies. Then, they can be eliminated vertically or horizontally. I'm sure Lexie will be giving me the thumbs up on that pretty soon thanks in advance for programming it for me. You're a swell guy.
It just occurred to me: I think there is an argument that no NES game can be more relaxing than "Taboo: The Sixth Sense", but I won't support that argument because I don't consider it to even be a game. It's basically just an electronic fortune telling machine. Worse yet, it was developed by Rare who were generally competent and at times brilliant. More proof that the NES Seal of Quality was smoke, mirrors, marketing, and greed. Thank goodness as a kid I guessed correctly from the back of the box that it was a turd and got "Snake Rattle 'N' Roll" instead - ironically also developed by rare but one of their best NES games IMO (I also love me some Cobra Triangle and Solar Jetman).
I’ve played and watched NES games all my life. And I haven’t heard of half of these games lol. Wouldn’t call the top 2 anywhere near free of stress, but good games. Theres a switch game Puyo Puyo Tetris though. It combines the 2 games. And it has no idea who it wants to play it. Story is for little girls. Gameplay is exclusively for the most hardcore pro gamers. Lol
@ One of the harder games I’ve played. Probably easier if you can figure out all the special moves, but from what I recall, it never explains anything. You have to figure out an extremely hard game all on your own.. while suffering through game plot aimed at 5-8 year old girls lol
"...he was afraid of me becoming addicted to video games... which, uh PANNED OUT WELL, DIDN'T IT?!"

Great choices and an even better breakdown :)
As for Game Boy, GBC, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, Turbografx-16, N64, PlayStation, and Saturn;
Game Boy- Super Mario Land 2, Mole Mania, The Adventures of Lolo, Kid Dracula, and Kirby's Star Stacker.
Wonderful choices!
How about Solstice folks? Isometric fanboy here 😅 Great list!
Isometric games ruin my day lmfao.
I am a masochist sometimes lmao.
LMAO I love this premise.
Tetris on the NES is a Christmas game🎉
So is Die Hard :P
@@Fortefyre HELL YEAH, MAN! XD
I’ve started playing games with your videos. I like to guess what titles will show up based on comments you make in your other videos.
Oh yeah? Haha.
I had a black and white TV and I couldn't play Dr. Mario because the red and blue colours were the same 😢
Oh no!
You and I have very different ideas of relaxing.
And that's okay! Chaos relaxes me sometimes lol.
I would love to sit down with a nintendo employee from the past and learn about the process of earning the seal and how much corruption happened.
Mine included Tetris 2 and Klax
Great choices!
@Fortefyre another "fyre". Noice!
Maniac Mansion is pretty relaxing. Until you start the countdown…
I have yet to play it lmao.
What was the name of the game at the very beginning with the guy in armor and sword. I had that game and can’t remember the name. It was a great game
Astyanax!
@ YES! Thank you
What’s the first game shown in the intro?
Astyanax!
Lol
Haha I'll have to check it out.
@ One of the harder games I’ve played. Probably easier if you can figure out all the special moves, but from what I recall, it never explains anything. You have to figure out an extremely hard game all on your own.. while suffering through game plot aimed at 5-8 year old girls lol
LOLO is not relaxing actually, it's frustrating hehe..
Great game.
Haha we're all different :P
🤘🎈🤘
