We never got a Chaos boss battle, Classic Sonic felt hardly involved, the levels were extremely quick, I guess I shouldn't complain about the whole no Shadow boss battle but it's still sad that we didn't get any of the things we got in the trailers. *DON'T GET ME WRONG!* The avatar thing was cool, nothing dissapointing thing from my perspective there, the Modern Sonic stuff was good, soundtrack was fucking unbelievable to listen to and we got a shit ton of fan-service when it came to giving all the other characters screen-time like Omega and Team Chaotix. As 101supertails said, the game was sadly pretty mediocre.

Man, I sincerely hope this doesn't happen again with Project Sonic 22... It makes me feel very happy to see people so excited about the projects of the franchise, I hope everything goes well and Frontiers be a good game.

I love how in the technical trailer they didn't show a scrap of Sonic Boom and really only showed Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic. I only just remembered that that's not what the current Sonic is
Boom sonic was stated from Day 1 to be not related to the mainline storyline at all, so he is technically not even from the same dimension, though some folks here are seeing the dual eggbots and thinking that the two Eggman team up and thus cause Modern sonic and Classic sonic to show up, but also calling in Boom sonic from a "ruined future". Since Boom already makes fun of it's self, it'd be a perfect tongue-in-cheek move. Boom sonic also possesses aspects that both classic and modern sonic don't have, such as the energy lasso and a heavier reliance on martial arts for close range combat.

I see a lot of people commenting how the game ended up being disappointing in the end. But I have to say, as someone who's played the original sonic games in the late 90s and dabbled in a couple other games here and there, I actually really enjoyed it! I'm not overly a huge fan that keeps up with the series like others, I'd say I'm more casual, but I didn't really see a lot wrong with the game. I think perhaps this game was better enjoyed by casual fans of Sonic, than diehard fans who maybe expected more, which is understandable when you play any series game after game and are always looking for improvements with every game. But I personally thought it was fun and enjoyable for the most part. It has to be better than Sonic 06 at the very least.
I'm a sonic fan who's stuck by sonic through hard times *cough cough* sonic boom *cough cough* and I'm so excited that sonic is going back to his roots and the fans are finally getting what they want. I'm excited about this title and for sonic mania.
