Dude...that's pretty awesome! A friend of mine in high-school, Connie McGrew, turned me on to the Stray Cats. My family just moved from Baltimore to Huntington Beach in 1981 and I heard music that I didn't even know existed! Did you see yourself in the audience?? That's gotta be cool and a little freaky at the same time!!
@@fostexfan160 He's just not as recognizeable as maybe Eric Clapton or David Gilmour these days. Rockabilly is not for everyone, I mean.. I had a DJ friend who worked late at night. When this song would begin to play i would call the back line of the station and ask him to play it. Got it back to back at least once a weekend. He made their radio ads so was playing big reel to reel tapes and not listening. 😂 One of my all time favorite songs and bands. 🎉
That's one of the things I love best about the Stray Cats. Slim Jim Phantom can get more rhythm out of two drums than a lot of drummers with a full drum kit that takes up half the stage. 😁
Saw these boys live in London at around this time. It was a great show, and they play just as well live as on the record. But there is even more energy live because of the audience. Great band.
In the October 1998 issue of Guitar World magazine, Brian Setzer's solo from "Stray Cat Strut" ranked #92 on the "Top 100 Guitar Solos of All Time" list.
I just watched a special from this guy with full brass, the base player, girls singing and the whole arrangement! It was hands down the best talent I've ever seen. Unbelievable..... Song I loved best was how he did sleepwalking. Outstanding. It was a concert in Tokyo......AMAZING! It was priceless. I love your passion for music. thank you Brian. grace 1014
IF YOU LOOK UP THE STRAY CAT'S OR THE B.S.O IT SHOWS YOU WHO GREAT THIS BAND IS, AND NOW WE HAVE BRIAN SETZER DOING ROCKABILLY WITH A BIG SWINGING BAND, WHAT I LIKE TO CALL, SWINGABILLY IT SHOW YOU BRIAN SETZER IS TODAY'S KING OF ROCK AN ROLL.
I believe you cannot squeeze rock tighter than this: guitar, double bass and three-piece drum kit. This is also very cool stuff with most goofy-looking bassist ever.
The best Brit/Mod music of the 60s, played live, was stripped down and played hard. And this is in the same tradition, even if a different style. Anyone who likes real music can't help but love these old Stray Cats recordings.
Having first learned of this song in a 9-volume fantasy/sci-fi series [excellent; author Julian May spent 30 years writing for encyclopedias, and her sci-fi is laced with REAL science, made utterly fascinating by her word-smithery], I was delighted to find "the real thing." It has not disappointed!
Great quality video and audio for '81 (!) Love Brian's setup; he's playing that Bassman head through a VOX cabinet (loaded w/Celestion Blue alnicos [?]). Thanks for sharing.
A very Rockabilly Happy 62nd Birthday Brian Robert Setzer April 10, 1959 Massapequa, NY. BOULDER CO 3/11/83 CU EVENTS CENTER Boys With Toys were the opener. No seating on the Big Dance Floor.. We danced for hours. Thanks Brian..
Interesting enough, if you listen carefully, you might discover that the Stray Cat Strut originally came out decades before the Stray Cats changed the lyrics. It was originally a children’s tune called “The Cat Came Back”.
Brian Setzer's guitar playing sounds a lot like George Thorogood's...to me at least. Both have that heavy blue's influence, lots of bending strings/stretching notes. It's friggin' awesome AND it sounds even BETTER live imho. 1981, MTV had just launched, disco was dead and stinkin', and it was great time to be a music lover! P.S. Thank you, Connie McGrew, for turning me onto the Stray Cats! 🐈 🐈 🐈
This was the year I saw the Stray Cats at Leeds University Union. I still maintain that this, and Simply Red, right at the beginning just after Picture Book, were the best pop concerts I ever saw, and I saw nearly everyone except Queen and the Beatles.
Fact Eric Clapton in an interview said Brian setzer is one of the best guitar players in the world and he said it because nobody thought setzer was that great.
I was there !!! More than 30 years ago ! It was and is THE CONCERT !

That's rock n roll for ya. 😊
Can’t fake that level of guitar playing talent
Rockabilly doesn't get any better than this!
It's Oct. 2024 and I saw Brian in concert in February. Then the Cats toured all through the Summer.

That drum kit is the epitomy of minimalism.
How many loud bangy things do you need, Neil Peart?
It helps to have a bass player that can pluck on the down beat
i want ONE lol
less is more
Unique.nothing more nothing less.
They don't make music anymore like they did in the 80's when they were making music from the 50's.
Yep 80's had gaziilion styles and all of them fantastic
Duke J 80's music. was shit , but they had a few brilliant gems amongst them . Setzer was an absolute diamond find !!
It was the decade when your producer's snare drum sample became more important than the song.
🤣

I was in high school and loved their look! Goth, punk, all that before greenday. So fine!
Don't ever mention Greenday in the same sentence as these icons. Milquetoast Punk brought to by Pfizer & Coca-Cola lol
such a good guitar tone
Yeah, his tone is certainly amazing.
Pretty underrated guitar player.
Somebody always has to post that a musician is underrated. Brian Setzer has never been underrated.
He's just not as mainstream. But anybody who's into rock n roll is well aware that Brain Setzer can jam as good as anyone.
@@chrismc.4437 True
He’s a damn good guitar player. I’m usually not into Christmas music, but his guitar playing on his Christmas special was really good.

Enthralling. Pure music, no distraction, not a smartphone in sight. Just a couple handfuls of string and wood out there making it happen.
Just as fresh as when I first heard it😍
