Omg perfect description! Haha
I thought exactly the same, she must perform the new song for the next movie 🎥 😛
it is the james bond chord progression :D
wow, yes, this is exactly what it is! I need this so bad IRL
I’ll take this over Billie’s No Time to Die!
Re-watching this video after 8 years and I am still in awe of this cover.
Same.
Same here
I never thought Portishead, Depeche Mode and Radiohead could sound great together in a Nirvana song.
Thanks for changing my mind, I love this version!
Underrated comment. You deserve attention.
You forgot bjork😎
You know what really pisses me off? All these people in the comments saying Kurt would've hated this cover and whatnot. And it isn't just this single cover, this happens way too often: people think they know Kurt personally and speak in his name. Seriously, how would you feel if your fans would constantly try to figure out your personality, your preferences etc.? Just let the guy rest in peace, ffs, and enjoy the damn music.
I agree, I don't think he would honestly care. I feel as though it may be of interest to him to hear other versions of his music. He did say quite a few times he didn't want to disclose what his songs meant. He wanted people to form their own relations and feelings to his music.
Pfff, Kurt would have hated your comment
What's hilarious is that so many of the people who do that are provably wrong. Kurt was pretty clear about a lot of things that he loved or hated. I've seen so many people say "Kurt would have hated _____." ...not knowing that he specifically said he actually really liked ______ in some interview somewhere. Hating on Nevermind is the most common thing I see. Hipsters think it's the cool thing to do because they remember 1992 interviews where Kurt downplayed the album and shit on its production. ..but he only did that because the record became something he didn't intend it to become. When Nevermind was first finished, he LOVED it. He personally chose Butch to produce it. ..and by 1993 he had already made his peace with it and started appreciating it again. Making In Utero got a lot of that frustration out of his system. I'm saying all of this based on the fact that he said so himself.
"Real fans only listen to In Utero because THAT was the record Kurt wanted to make. Butch Vig forced Kurt to make a pop record against his will. Fuck Nevermind bc kUrT sAiD sO."
....
"Pfft.. you think you're cool bc your favorite record is In Utero? REEEEAL Nirvana fans only like Bleach."
......
As far as covers go.. He talked about covers in his last interview when the journalist asked him how he felt about Nirvana covers. Lol So I know Kurt liked Weird Al's parody. He was impressed with how well they pulled it off. ...and he used Tori Amos' cover of Teen Spirit to open a lot of shows. They'd walk out onstage doing goofy interpretive dance to her cover - and then they didn't actually have to play it during the set themselves. Lol
Idk if Kurt would have loved this. Totally possible! ..but I'm pretty confident that he definitely wouldn't have HATED it. I can't think of a single reason he would. He had an extremely diverse taste in music. My *guess* is that he would have thought it was "pretty cool". I don't know though. No one does. I don't even trust Courtney's opinion. I bet Krist would know, though! hahaha However, I can think of many reasons he would hate all the people (wrongfully) claiming to know his artistic tastes and feelings about things. ..and the people who literally deify him especially trip me out. You're absolutely obsessed with this dude and yet you've somehow missed the 100,000 times he specifically said how he doesn't want to be worshipped and hates when people think they know him. It's so fucking ironic. He talked about that in SO MANY interviews. I know a couple people who knew Kurt IRL and we've laughed about that a few times.
The biggest tragedy is that most people think he was some miserable junkie hellbent on self destruction. I get why people think that.. but it just wasn't true.
That's another thing I know he would have hated. ..because he said so himself. There are so many armchair psychologists out there. "You can really tell Kurt is in pain during this show. blah blah blah blah. Poooooor Kurt. I wish I could hug him. blah blah blah."
A few days ago, I was watching a Nirvana video and among the sea of "Kurt didn't die to become a fucking t-shirt" comments, I saw one comment that said "I walked up to this young girl in a Nirvana shirt and asked her if she even knew who that band was. She said she didn't, so I just said 'Oh..' -and then carried on with my life."
I have to admit.. after I stopped laughing, my first thought was "I bet Kurt would have thought that was hilarious." Lol
I guess the thing is that Kurt was very opinionated and vocal about music style, bands, and "philosophy" to music making and many "fans" use this as a means to criticise anything that does not sound like Nirvana. It's a "scene" thing that you would also see in Punk, Metal etc
idc if kurt would hate it or not really, but I dislike this cover. it feels way too clean and pristine, as well as popish in tone for something ment to be more raw and chaotic and energetic, with more louder and live production. But thats just me
Wrong I think Kurt would’ve like this, cause it’s different and out there. And I like to believe that Kurt was an advocate for being different.
truth's been spoken
I absolutely HATE most covers, because they are just mere imitations. I do NOT hate this.
Smush Johnson I guess you don’t have to like a cover to appreciate its innovative-ness
@@gixxerpwns That was a blank statement.🤨
@@gixxerpwns Correct, no substance whatsoever.
I gotta admit, that's the first Nirvana cover I have ever heard that includes beat boxing. Thumbs up for that. lol
Tori Amos did Smells Like Teen Spirit
Check out Petebox. He also has a great Nirvana cover.
@@teslagoth9401 But did she beatbox?
Heart Shaped Beatbox.
Where’s the beat box homie?
This is one of those times where someone covers a song, but really makes it their own, and the whole things comes together beautifully. Very artistically done.
The reason I found out about this years ago is because Courtney Love tweeted a link to it saying this is genius. He wrote it for her and she loves this cover.
Wasn't for her rather about her.
He was writing it in his attic when she came up and asked him for that riff for her band hole he told her no and she was pissed off 😂
Its about her messin with billy corgan
You can tell the Nirvana/grunge fans apart so evidently here. The ones who loved the scene and aesthetic, and the ones who loved the music. 1000% he'd have adored this, it's so creative and passionate and well-thought out, any proper musician can see creativity and art in anything even if it isn't their taste, it's the people who identify too strongly with a particular scene that will hate on change/adaptations
You're a boss Kawehi ✌🏻💃
I literally call this phenomenon "grunge ego" lol basically being possessive of your art and not letting it advance or grow to new audiences or new styles. Nothing will come close to what you consider the standard, because what you love "has soul" and yet your critiques of other styles usually boils down to aesthetic and conventions as opposed to essence and creativity. All these people act the fucking same and think of themselves as individualist. They as Kurt said "like to sing along but they don't know what it means"
I didn't know Kurt Cobain personally of course but everything I've read about him and everything he did in his life/career leads me to believe he would have thought this cover kicks ass!
Put this in a James Bond film, for fuck sakes.
J stone Rihanna can go back to her umbrellas ;)
+J stone HElls yah!!!
+thirstwill I second that comment. Case closed; court is adjourned. *bangs gavel*
+J Stone this is exectly the kind of music they would use. Only saw this girl because of the intel commercial.
J Stone HA IT DOES SOUND LIKE IT COULD BE THE OPENING THEME TO A BOND FLICK
THATS AWESOME
I would've 101% dropped that glass of wine in the middle of the song.
This sounds like the intro credits for a James Bond film. And I dig it
I was thinking more, The girl with dragon tattoo... Reminds me of Karen O's renditions of Immigrant Song
@@GhostKingGeorge so it's a cover of a cover
@@vijayanand9710 ? Huh ? Heart shaped box is a cover?
@@GhostKingGeorge no. Not this. NIN's cover of Karen O's cover of immigrant song.
@@vijayanand9710 that's a confusing sentence. Do you mean: immigrant Song covered by Karen O with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross? Or is there another cover of that cover?
I’ve been a Nirvana fan from the time they arrived. Screw the purists. This is an excellent tribute. Very creative.
I’m with you. It’s marvelous and unique.
@@turnstylee same here! She killed this!
He might've made a T-shirt, with her name on it
Purists? Those are the ones Kurt hated the most.
Yes! If you're gonna cover something, add something, make it yours. Just trying to recreate it is boring and uninspired.
Somewhere in the world there's about 50 people who have no talent because this girl has been given more than her fair share.
Dude I seriously just spit my sandwich out all over my phone laughing at this comment. TFF!
im one of them :(
@CazMatazz Wow, someone is projecting their lack of self-confidence in their intelligence... you need "The Four Agreements" book. The second agreement - "Don't take anything personally. It's not about you, it's about them. If someone calls you stupid without knowing you, then it's really about themselves not feeling smart enough." Almost a word-for-word quote. lol, yoo stoopid.
@CazMatazz “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”-Malcolm S. Forbes.
The "context" is in how you responded. I simply stated two objective facts and even graciously offered a solution, you've called at least two people you don't know "stupid". This reinforces my original conjecture. Hence, read the damn book. Have a nice day, good sir. ::Tips hat::
Talent not a thing. Enthusiasm, practice and confidence. All things you can work at, put in those hours if you wanna do something like this.
It's December of 2019. How come youtube just recommend this only now?

Same here. God only knows how YT's algorithm works but for a change it's doing something good. I'm just shocked that I haven't been aware of this artist before now. Her video Anthem is genius.
Haha, same. She fucking *KILLED* this.
UA-cam algorithm did it again. It took 6 years for recommend this pearl of cover.
This is the third cover I've heard you create, and I finally figured out the metaphor I've been grasping for.
You know how you're watching Bob Ross paint and he says "Let's put a tree here" and it doesn't look like a tree until it's BOOM a tree?
This is my experience with your covers. "What the hell is OH IT'S THE CHORD PROGRESSION IN THE CHORUS."
Really wonderful stuff. Thank you for tearing these songs down and rebuilding them in such wonderful ways.
You nailed it. Perfect metaphor.
Years later, still just wonderful.
Having a problem with looping, synthesizers or even auto tune does not make you a purist, it makes you afraid of change. You don't have to like this, but the most important thing in any art form is evolution, this is what music is developing into, and it goes through phases. Appreciate something different, don't dismiss it to laziness, there are many ways to make music, instruments don't always have to be involved. This is amazing, and this comes from someone who is a huge Nirvana fan, this happens to be my favorite song of theirs, and I love her treatment of it.
My only issue is autotune.
Synthesizers, looping, And step sequencers have been around for a long time.
I don't agree that it makes you afraid of change I think it's just a preference other people have, just like the ones you have. That is to say it's unimportant as it's only opinion. I love this sort of stuff and think it's cool that you can use this thing to turn pretty much anything into music. It's neat.
the issue is when you RELY on those things to sound good. If you're a bad singer, and you have to use autotune to make yourself sound even somewhat decent, you're a bad artist.
It's all about the music. Has nothing to do with how you make it.
It doesn’t make one afraid of change. It makes them a blinkered, close minded idiot.
Being a cynical bastard i assumed this would be horrendous....but wow....brilliant job. Just wow. Thats how u cover a song and be amazingly creative.
McStinkski not at all, this cover destroys the entire feeling of the song, it's meaning is lost. I would be glad if this cover gave it another meaning, but it doesn't even do that. It's impressive, sure, but it doesn't even recreate the song, or make it personal.
Lmao same, this is respectable
@@onty-op5587 Art is subjective. I would normally agree with you on covers for the most part, but this one one holds me in meditation very well. I like this cover more than it's original, mostly because it puts me in a different state of mind. It's a different feeling than the original.
same, turned out pretty cool.
McStinkski I just don’t understand how you thought this would be “horrendous.” Is that how you look at covers? Or female artists?
I;m guessing you thought it was going to be horrendous because what, an Asian looking woman can’t cover nirvana? I can’t figure out if it’s racism, sexism, or just ignorance.
This is like she's just totally enjoying herself, being a virtuoso on her instrument.
It's like Radiohead and Bjork get each other in this one.

This is one of the best covers I have ever heard in my life. I am a die hard Nirvana fan and it was so refreshing to hear your version. You are beyond talented and i cant wait to here more songs from you!
She just made a whole new rendition live with new sound and vocals in under 4 minutes. Amazing.
I’ve listened to this so many times over the years and this is by far the best cover of heart shaped box that captures the purity and essence of this song like nobody else besides Kurt himself did.
Kurt was obviously a fan of the eccentricities inherent to being “out there “and this is truly an amazing example of something sitting in that space. 🤘🏻 please more from such amazing talent.
Holy duck. For a 9 year old video, this both aged well, and the video quality video, editing, and cover are all superb.
As a huge Nirvana fan I was very dubious when I saw the title to this, Heart-Shaped Box being my favourite song.
However, my hesitation was completely unjust. This is an incredible cover, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the whole thing come together to make something which is utterly beautiful. Well done Kawehi, you've definitely gained at least one more fan in me!
I'm really impressed! I've watched several of your vids and listened intently... you've got some serious skills!
I've seen soooo many Nirvana covers, this one has only just came up as a suggestion in 2022 and I'm glad that it did. By far the best and most original cover of this song imo. Beautiful
And it's live!!! And not pre-recorded and made to look live like some of the others out there!
This blew my mind! I usually hate covers of what I consider great songs but Kawehi doesn't "cover" (re-do) songs, she inhabits them, infusing them with new life while somehow always staying true to the original. She is my favorite new artist. (New to me, that is, I have no idea how long she's been making music.)
This is haunting and I love it, I had to pause the song so I could snoop her channel real quick to subscribe, and then I kept playing it so I could pay full attention to it. This girl has more talent in her little finger than I have in my whole body
how amazing is this still after 8 years...
youtube waited almost 6 years to recommend this to me
Adding red wine to shopping list. Should be good at music soon. Wish me luck!

I like her passion, you can tell the original song spoke to her in some way.
Agreed, and wasn't that he wanted. Kurt made music to be heard and for people to interpret in their own way. We are all individuals. He was artistic. Look at the way the other bandmates have evolved.
totally in love
best thing is that she so confident in what she’s doing
Makes me think of my wifes recent loss with her father passing away. He was a phenomenal guy and this track/your version gives the vibe if what she's been enduring with his loss
Damn, she really just be vibin with some wine and beautiful music making.
I dig this so much.
This kinda sounds like a Bond theme. It's fucking good and creative though.
Kurt wanted people to love his music and interpret it on their own. He was artistic and original. So is this gal, by the way she is interpreting the song and transforming it. She heard it differently as all individuals. Also, let's not forget how the other bandmates have evolved over time. Stop being in a box. Leave room for an open mind.
Oh my. This is such a unique rendition! I love what you did with it.
Now for a conducter who can bring this together with a whole damn orchestra and choir and then that'll be the second thing I want to hear again at the opera-house!
Kurt would have loved it even if he didn’t like it, because he would have been genuinely touched that someone saw such value and was inspired by his music.

I'll drop one here then. I hate it, it sucks. a wonderful song butchered. annoying high pitch singing, random beatboxing and sounds that in itself does sound cool and has potential to be something great but to this song... no. While I'm sad that the opening rift wasnt more preserved, as it is a very fitting opening, everything about this cover sounds great. It's like a cross between Nine Inch Nails and some of the songs by M O O N, like Dust, and Hydrogen.
Is it weird that I'm more impressed with the camera work and editing than the performance and creativity of this video?

Life long die hard Nirvana fan. I've heard countless covers and this is the absolute best. She owns it. Yes, I agree if Cobain was around to see this he'd be dropping her name on MTV. Yeah, she should be a groundbreaking earth shaking new artist everyone is talking about. I've watched a lot of her videos and she's so talented that I cant articulate how it moves me. FOR THE HATERS that say she's just hitting buttons and looping and auto tuning and it's not real music without a band....THIS IS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC! And it's beautiful to think that because of this technology that someday soon anyone that can write a good song can do their thing and have a chance, Yes it was harder for legends but that's not a good reason to neglect a good artist at face value.
