- Working with your kids in the shop is a rewarding and overall beneficial experience. This video gives you some tips about how to involve your kids in projects in a productive way, as we build this Mother’s day gift. It’s a simple key hanging thing with walnut “MOM” letters, but it could be anything - The more important lesson is spending time with the kids in the workshop, teaching them things about building and using psychology to get over their fears while the workshop.

About Stillworks
I make videos of my daily shop life and all the crazy things I’m working on. That could be project builds, woodworking skits, more introspective stuff, and educational videos. Think of my woodworking as exactly what you do: Not specializing in one thing, rather cranking out whatever comes to mind, regardless of genre. Thanks for watching!
I'm so glad they finally got lunch.
Hahah, an important part of any project…
Yup, a real dad for sure.
Appreciate that friend
Your shop assistant is definitely mission focused on 'lunch time' 😊
And that’s the best part of any project
I hated when our shop teacher made us sweep up the shop--it's a SHOP! And now, I put my tools all in their place as I work, and vacuum and sweep even more often than he made us. I think of Mr. Jobes often when I do that. Thank you for doing what you're doing--even those super-small things--it's important.
Shop class is soul craft
Well there's the second video someone else has beaten me to. 😫
In all seriousness....
Our little niche of the UA-cam world needs more of this. Shop time with kids is sacred and will reap so many benefits later in life.
Solid parenting + mentorship = a well adjusted young person
Well put. And I’d say plenty of material still to be had in the kid/making realm. Excited to integrate your ideas.
Kids in the shop are a must!
Awesome. Loved the McDonald’s in the pickup bed. An old blanket or rug would be great back there. Something that you can stick behind seats.
Gotta toughen them up somehow…
I just got punched in the face with cuteness....and am hungry for some strange reason. This is a great first woodworking project. Next kid project: Harp (full size).
Thank you my friend, go get some lunch!
Excellent video! Pretty soon you will be driving with them in the car and hearing "Are We There Yet"! 😂😂
Sounds like you know from expeirence
That's great!! I do this with my Grandkids! And yes always wants snacks lol. Peace
Snacks are an important part of any project
loved the video! my kids and I just did a bird house recently and i felt the video was very relatable
Easy handheld-size project. A birdhouse is perfect
Great stuff John! As a dad of two awesome daughters also, I totally relate and agree with all the tips here! Now, where the heck is my lunch? Or at least second breakfast!
Lunch requests were coming in at about 1 every 9 minutes haha
@@Stillworks Idk about you but sometimes I forget to eat when I get in my work zone. The wife and daughters always have to remind me. 😅
@@MJLWoodWorks that’s called “the zone” where you and your tools become one
@@Stillworks Now only if I could become CEO of SkyNet and develop cyborg carpenter suits that allow you to carry all the tools on yourself and have a neural connections where you just have to think, "Impact driver" or "Jointer" and its automatically delivered to your current position so you can use it.
@@MJLWoodWorksthat’s your next video idea
Excellent video. My 5 year old is strangely fond of the jointer… and pull saws 🤷♂️
Keep Forstering that, it’s good for them
Very important as soon as they're old enough to use any type of machinery... hair and sleeves up!
The number of people I see working with long hair near rotating machinery is terrifying. When it goes wrong, it goes REALLY wrong
Crew cuts for everyone!
I get the feeling the wife 'who would destroy you' if they got hurt, is probably more touched by the video of you making with them, than the project (or any) you made in it
Good job!
Thanks buddy
Good job dad! and by the way they aren't cute kids at all--wow! I just cracked my computer screen by my nose growing suddenly...
Hahahah, thank you friend!
Is it lunch time?
“It’s 10:10, so not quite yet”
