Matt Pike is a legend. Everything from High On Fire to the new Sleep album/songs are tone heaven. I'm glad that Sleep is doing what it's doing these days. Some would say they are milking the fans, but I think they are giving the fans gifts of new riffs.

What I meant by that comment was that I personally know a few musicians (that really are haters) who have said such nonsense in discussions over the matter. They would say that Sleep hasn't out out any new material since 1999 (but really recorded in 1996) and are putting new stuff out because they've gotten popular again. These guys like High On Fire more though.
Agreed, the tone from his live performances in both bands are amazing as well as the recorded music. I think Matt Pike is just as much a gear nerd as any musician and it shows.

Few bands make me feel stoned when I'm not...Sleep is one of them. Om is another. Thank you Al. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I love the "Om style" vocals on the new Sleep material since The Clarity...it's just so much more fitting than screaming. Maybe it's because I like Om slightly more than Sleep, I know that's probably blasphemous as well. Peace

Totally agree. The Om vocal styles fit so much better. As much as i love the song itself, i've never been a fan of his Dopesmoker vocals.

@@purpled4864 you can put together a vintage system for 100 euros in most countries i've been to. Just make sure the amplifier works because that usually costs much more to repair than a pair of speakers.

Frank Lefebvre it feels next level from the album honestly. its a masterpiece on its own but i like that idea
Alex Pickle agreed. Sciences is good but this doesn’t fit with that album’s theme. Leagues is probably my favorite thing they’ve ever done. You can close your eyes and almost see the story Al is telling with someone sinking into the abyss.
The sections like 7:13 to 8:40 are riffs and solos that are sped up and expanded on in Marijuanaut's Theme. Some songs from The Sciences were ideas kicking around from the pre-Jerusalem era, so I wouldn't be surprised if these two songs were brewing for awhile.
@@Giallorossi83 Both "Leagues Beneath" and "Giza Butler" are connected, in lyrical theme, by 'Dune' references though. I was just happy to have two releases!

they are great, one of a handful of bands that put out an album where you can listen start to finish. to me this started in the early 2000's. my friends would say they liked a band but when we listened to music they would stop it after one song. when I love a band and put up money I buy for the whole album, that is real music.

@@HaRRRdgE fantastic, sounded better than the recording. They opened with it when I saw them Dec 11, 2018 and played pretty much all of the sciences when I saw them in Nashville in June of 2019. Definitely my favorite band

This is a great example of how most of the good "Doom" bands are masters of pushing killer guitar sound/tone.... I have named them all "SS" the Sabbath Society... You could say the same for bass production too!!

There is only one man who owns that title and thats iommi! The beggining guitar of under the sun serves as the basis for all of doom metal.
Ian Flanagan wrong. Iommi is the riff God, the one who created us metalheads. And Pike, well he might as well be Jesus.
pantheon of under rated riff lords includes but not limited to: Ritchie Blackmore, Robert Fripp, Scott Wenritch, Joe walsh, Alex Lifeson, Kim Thall, Frank Zappa. There are to many great riff masters that just dont get enough love.

It makes me so sad that most people will never understand what real music is, as they all listen to the same, pointless trash on the radio made by “artists” who pay other people to make their music on a computer. Real music is made by the hands of man, with the intention of making you feel, or forget whatever pains you endure in the harsh world of reality by transporting you to another dimension.
