- Sleep ending their set at the Decibel Metal & Beer Festival with From Beyond and Cultivator/Improved Morris (a.k.a. the end section of the song/album Dopesmoker). Live on 4/23/17 from The Fillmore in Philadelphia, PA.
The guy up front isn't security, he's just too stoned to know which way to face the band
Or Bon Jovi got lost
Stoned to the gills! lmao
lmao. he was still standin' there two hours after the gig had ended and everyone left
him total 4-20!111
Too anxious to have people just behind him like that lmfao
seven years later, to the day...
Love the huge fills in from beyond
coming back to this, when Matt just strums his gibson ONCE and keeps sliding up and down at the Improvised Morris (flight version) riff and just lets sustain work for him ( 21:49 ) I feel like I witness a fucking god doing his work
Am 61 next Thursday and only discovered this fantastic band just b4 covid lock down. I get a great gym workout with earbuds in listening to live Sleep. Regency Ballroom is also a great one.
Al has the best fucking Headbang I have ever seen in my live. The whole man is just exploding with energy
7:07 this is my favorite riff in all of sleep’s discography
First song I learned to play from the album and still such a fun riff to play.
mine is the breakdown to evil gypsy, but that one is a really close second
I can't unhear all those tasty grooves
potentially the best live sleep video i've seen
Agree.
These guys fucking rock. Heavy as it gets
That awkward security guard is the real star of the show here.
HA!!!!😂😂😂
Gracias Sleep por existir
You can tell Al loves these two songs by how he almost is dancing.
He gets so into it. Such a good bassist
He is dancing
whoa.....skinny Al.....
Al is making love to that bass, pure class upload, many, many thanks for this.
Wish I was getting melted by this set right now
jebus; I could never get out of that fill at 5:32
This is the best live sleep I've ever seen
lol is Chris Hakius Sleep's secirity guy now?
Al plays that shit religiously
the ending is hypnotic
djembe man the entire thing is hypnotic as fuck!! Long live SLEEP
it's amazing how fast 20 minutes can go by without even noticing
Yes, for some reason you're just 50 min in (so high)
That backdrop.
And Cultivator/Improved Morris forever. I haven’t seen a Sleep show in five months and I know they were gonna take a long break but this is a nice find tonight. Thank you.
Got this video bookmarked
I was right behind you heh.. PRAISE IOMMI PRAISE CISNEROS
Praise Pike

Praise iommi praise Cisneros hail pike
@@stevedoom844 Sabbath wery best!
I have seen sleep once already. Wanted to see them again, wasn't old enough, missed something really special, FUCK BEER FESTIVALS!
CosmicMegaDonkeys fear not friend, you know they are totally gonna tour the shit out of their upcoming album. be patient, and follow the smoke to the shirtless land
Sean Corrigan I know, I know, just sucks to see they killed it, and I missed it. Can't wait for that new album though, the marijuanaught has come back to take us to the riff-filled lands!
Phenomenal recording of an incredible performance, by a band with a collective, what? Almost 90 years of groundbreaking musical experience? Incredibly, after all this time, they appear to operating at peak efficiency. Mr. Roeder, in particular, has appeared to not age at all over the past 30 years - I assume the beard is an attempt to hide his immortality. When he launched into the transition during the intro to "From Beyond", I feared for my house's foundation.
90?
@@bobsbigboy_ _collective_

@@vicentevaldebenito7282 he's not wrong?

what a beautiful backdrop! badass w33d field!
Yeah!!!
Best sound/music I ever heard
The phase/delay effect around 10:30 - 11:30 is mind altering!
Roll on Saturday 5th October at the Ritz Manchester.... MY BIRTHDAY!!
Chido por compartir este video. Verdaderamente instrospectivo...smoke, sleep and doom....
Fucking headbanger Al 🔥
The security in 2:57
Al is my spirit animal. And a fucking wizard!
The way Jas keeps those cymbals rockin', like some plate spinner or something. Look like hovering ufo's if ya was trippin.
fucking shit i wish i was there
security at a sleep show has gotta be a fucking cake job
Fuck yea boy thanks for the upload !!
cultivator better be on this new album..
Cultivator is part of Dopesmoker, about 43ish minutes in :) It'll absolutely blow your balls off when it kicks in
From Beyond deserves to be 27min
44,258 people are undecided.
12:12 One of my fav solos from Riff Lord Matt Pike.
Holy Crap the Bass!!
bom som essa banda é muito boa kkkkkkkkkkkk
Awesome upload!!! I never tire of the transition that takes place with From Beyond into Cultivator. What a background photo there too!! Potential new album cover??
Ian M probably not the new album cover. This show was around 420.
@@jordanallen1607 Sweet leaf Bro))
This was a great show. Dangerous amount of beer made for a hazy night... ha
Dude, i got fucking drunk that night, holly shit!!!!! HAIL CISNEROS!!!
One dislike lol I guess I can live without them.lol
20:55 🙌🏻
Why do I picture the Choir of the Sun chanting inside the anti moon as folks wearing beekeeper garb?
@4:35 Jason fucked up and didn't come in. That's the only thing I miss from sleep. Jason on Anarticans Thawed is great, better than Chris. However, everything else, I just like more with Chris Haikus. He was Al's musical solo mate. Them in Sleep & Om really make the term drum & bass come to life and mean what its supposed to mean.
Personally I think Jason is a more creative drummer and he compliments the parts and the overall sound better. But I did listen to The Sciences first so I might be biased. Anyway I don't think it's fair to criticize a musician for messing up an entrance on a song he didn't write and hasn't had as much time to learn. Every musician fucks up now and then, and he still kicked ass the rest of the performance
@@henrysmith8603 i do agree with you and i think he missed the section because of the monitoring
Look by 5:25 how much his band mates are supporting him
I agree. He’s probably the only drummer who can fill the shoes, though not as good as the original. I mean it makes sense. Sleep was al, pike and Chris. Al and Chris worked together like no one else could
ORANGE
Anybody tell me why Al play his bass so high up onto the neck? I'm sure there is purpose to it (like how Geezer used to play over the fretboard of his Fender for the "clank" to cut through the mix). I just can't pick out what Cisneros is accomplishing by doing so through all the distortion. Sorry for the bass nerd question. Thanks anybody.
The Rickenbacker bass is the answer. I have an Epiphone EB3 black and I play like Al Cisneros on it, he made me pick up and play bass man and I really dig it in and the Rickenbacker with Ampeg heads is the answer and of course rhe magic of Al’s fingers. Cheers!
More vibratory length to the note and deeper bass, plucking directly in the middle of the string.
Also produces a kind of woody slap against the frets when plucked/tapped, for a unique attack.
Your nerding is complete.
You're welcome.
@@pongosnodgrass7014 Perfect, thank you!
I should also add, that tapping the string percussively around 15th 16th fret, while fretting the actual note, produces a range of bell like overtones
@@pongosnodgrass7014 I'm gonna try that out later today on my own and would bet that you are right. I have a Ric clone (1974 Greco RB 800) with proper Ric scaIe length of 33.25" tuned down 1/2 step so should translate. May have to move up or down a fret to replicate. Or is your count on a Ric neck? May be the same, as the natural harmonics are as a full 34". But like I said, we shall soon see. And thanks for understanding what I meant by "bass nerd" and the depth I was hoping for (and then some) in response.
Praise Iommi
When I play bass like that I'm high af and in the groove.

How is Matt Pike so grimy looking yet so majestic all at the same time???
Holly fuck i was there, i took a ride from new york and i got drunk as fuck in there, it was like being right in hell, damn...
Man...what if those pot plants were like...90ft tall? How bad ass would that be?
Pike at his beerbelliest! I love it! Fucking follow the smoke!
👹
Nice sound quality. Thankyou
That backdrop looks like my neighbors back yard.
Should I call the police?
Nope call me
no justice no peace dont trust the police
Damn your neighbour's got a big yard
14:13 top
It wouldn't surprise me if these guys would go around and " Jay and Silent Bob" the thumbs down people.
Matt Pike da Goat!!
Man i thought the album version of From Beyond was slow ... nice

Bass dude lost weight and got a beard?
Al looks so fucking baked lol (I'm sure he is though lol)
He is at like all performances
one person was too stoned to hit like
people think that Snoop Dog smokes a lot of weed
all things are relative...
this is a natural gateway drug for treatment of altzhiemers
@ 27:12 shows you why Joe Perry is a 'polished turd'.
Matt is skinny again
I miss fat matt
He looked kinda unhealthy in chicago 'round new years
